The Catholic Weekly journalist Marilyn Rodrigues chats with Jonathan Roumie about his life-changing role playing Jesus of Nazareth in The Chosen series.
Raised as Catholic but had become entangled with too much of the modern beliefs. After the first episode, I’started to pray the holy rosary daily, the Divine Mercy chaplet and reading the Bible. One day I felt the most amazing love come through me that I can’t explain. This was a feeling that was unlike anything. I was told it was the Holy Spirit. My life has taken a different path. These days I pray and meditate on Christ passion, I participate in mass and sometimes I feel like the lady at the well. I don’t want to go back to my old self. I too am a Southern Baptist that prays the rosary. After spending a month praying with Jonathan, my life turned around and the Lord blessed me beyond what I asked. I now have a new and wonderful career for which I am perfectly suited. Everything has fallen into place after much prayer, faith p, and surrender to Him. Thank you Jonathan for being a guide to my closure walk with God and the scriptures.
I don't understand the purpose of the rosary. I want to understand it especially growing up Catholic but I don't. How does saying the same prayer ....even if it's the Lord's prayer...repeatedly make things better? I genuinely don't get it. Can anyone explain?
Everything about this series is amazing. The dialogue. The cinematography. The music. The passion that Dallas exudes. The cast is perfect, especially Jonathan Roumie. He is right-this is the most relatable version of Jesus I have ever seen. I have cried (sobbed) more than once through both series. God bless you. God bless Dallas Jenkins. God bless the entire cast. I am not Catholic nor am I protestant but I'm really enjoying The Chosen..I was raised in a Christian household,my grandma adopted me when I was 6,but I never felt like Christianity was for me..I have always believed in a higher power,but I saw too many hypocritical people who claimed to be Christian and yet did not act like it in their hearts and that was mostly what turned me off to Christianity..it seems like everyone involved in this series is genuine and what true Christians should be..I've learned in the past few years not to judge Christianity by a few hypocritical people..it seems that Jonathan Roumie is a great example of what a true Christian should be..what really attracted me to this show was that they show the human side of Jesus,not just his divine side..I think that makes him more accessible to more people because he doesn't seem like this far away being..I'm loving The Chosen and I am looking forward to upcoming seasons 😊💕

I am a Catholic and I am also an artist. 14 years ago I painted several pictures of Jesus but there was only one that came out in my perspective as what I would assume Jesus might really look like and I kept that one for myself but the other ones I gifted people with. When the chosen first came onto RU-vid of course I watched it and the first time I saw Jonathan I was shocked as to how much he actually look like the picture I painted!! A coincidence? I don't know but as much as I love that picture I love it even more now! Praise the Lord! Amazing job Jonathan! And blessings upon the entire crew and cast of this wonderful show!
Amazing! I too love painting I draw according to the mood I am aspiring to. For instance, my one painting turned out to be Holy mother holding Baby Jesus in the Orthodox point of spiritually 🙏⭐️

I remember the joy that I had when I was painting, as I can't do much this time of my life because my vision is very bad but I still do some work however now it is more abstract. Amazing GRACE definitely as this interview was done a while ago now august 2023 and yes indeed Jonathan went to visit with Pope Francis and had his rosary blessings from Pope Francis and Dallas Jenkins also met the Pope Francis also . It was a wonderful moment to view. Jonathan Roomie has been very active in his faith I appreciate his commitment to share about Jesus Christ mercy be and Blessed Mother Mary rosary on his personal media and catholic media also . WOW such blessings he has received and will continue to do great things .oh Yes in a movie about a true life story of a man of faith in California during the 1960s evangelical Christian preaching to college students about Jesus Christ . Successful outcome. Yes thank you Jesus Christ name for Jonathan Roomie as a role model and believer in Jesus Christ in the flesh and Blessed Mother Mary too Orthodox Catholic and Catholic Christian Church also. A true testimony of faith in action. He's dedicated and obviously chosen by God Almighty as well for His unique ministry. Praise God Almighty thank you for sharing this video today with me . Reflections on this today as well.
Jonathan is the best play evangelist by leading others to Christ because the Lord intended it & he’s surrendered his life through his acting, speaking, praying 🙏🏻
Good for you Johathan! You shine a light in a very dark place, I am huge fan of the Chosen and as an Apostolic Pentecostal but former Catholic I strongly resonate to your message. Honestly I feel that God just sighs at all these Christian divisions, I know I can pray to God in any Christian church and He will hear, not only me but all those who come to Him in good faith anywhere.
Jesus feels real when you are playing Him. I love to see you laughing and joking and dancing gives Him such a real man/God. You are the perfect actor to play Jesus. I agree with you on the episodes you felt something really good, but I loved the wedding at Cana where you show the human side of Christ.
Jesus must be pleased with your portrayal and witness. May he continue to bless you and all those involved with this wonderful testament. I am Catholic and pray we shall one day all be One in Christ.

Hi Jonathan, yes I prayed along with you with divine chaplet.with the Mercy of god.i was experiencing alot of anxiety at the beginning of Covid 19 like in January 2021 . Mostly from enviorment neighborhood I live in. I guess people were stressed I felt energy nervous and anxiety. My legs would get anxious feeling very odd. And I could not sleep. I was like on high alert feeling. As I was formerly in law enforcement. So I would get gut feelings on any location I go through. So it was very difficult at times. As I saw your video to pray with you it helped balance my energy to be more focused and fine tune my energy levels. More peaceful as peace was more within me. Able to handle be more stress than usual. So yes very helpful for me thank you and and thank you Jesus Christ for your Mercy too. Amen Alljeullia praise and Glory to God.

I have been with you in your prayer times since the beginning and watch the old videos when you're not live. I now see the basic similarities instead of getting hung up on details of worship. I'm a Southern Baptist, too, and really appreciate your faith.

I have a an Episcopalian neighbour she tells me she prays the Rosary every day and watch the Holy mass on EWTN. But do not receive Holy communion. She says Rosary is not just for catholics but for every body. Yes I agree with her.

I love the show Jonathan. The reason it is so wonderful is because you are a true believer. All the other movies about Jesus fall flat next to the Chosen because of this I am Catholic and our priest has mentioned The Chosen many times on the pulpit and the younger children have watched all the episodes so far in church! The church itself loves what you have all created and support the Chosen. There is a huge difference between you as true believer and others who have played the role of Christ. I am also a spiritual medium and from the beginning of the series I thought you were somehow connected to Christ in a past life. Thank you for bringing this to the world. Jane Halliwell
@@lindacollins9591 That is one of the most wonderful ideas I have heard. Children by nature are vulnerable simply because they are children. They are easily influenced and their minds are wide open to what they hear. They possess a God-given child like faith in what they hear that forms them. Children are the targets of much oppression when what they hear and experience is detrimental to their lives. Possibly the parochial and Christian-based schools are the only safe places of spiritual nourishment. What if The Chosen was shown in a few Catholic and Protestant schools and that would be the loaves and fishes. God may want to feed the 5000 and do the same impossible math!! Don’t know where you are Linda but perhaps you have a sphere of influence. If it is meant to be, prayer will bring it to pass in God‘s way at just the right time. I will be in prayer about your thoughts and my thoughts.
@@tep.m.8347 You are so right Tee, our children are the targets of so much oppression, and because of this public schools would band this from ever being played in schools. I come from NSW Australia and one of our Catholic high schools has now show it to the students encouraging them to follow on with episodes as the come in, just hope Catholic schools around the world follow suit. On searching all about Ukraine I found out that there is a massive Statue of St. Michael the Archangel in Independence Square in Kiev Ukraine. They have a great devotion to him, so it is only fitting that we, the world, pray St. Michael's Prayer for Peace in Ukraine and in the whole world. I praise God for the divine privilege He has gifted Jonathan, drawing souls for God for his apostolate. Jonathan can never feel a restless heart, because his heart rests in God's Heart. I pray I can do 0. 1 percent of what he is able to do for God

I love you Johnathan ..you are such a inspiration..I was raised penticostal holiness..and it's the way I worship even today but it doesn't matter really what religion we are in..it's about the relationship that you have with Jesus that matters..and that's why we share our faith, our hope, grace because we still pray to the same God...he shows you the same love and mercy to me as he does to you and to anyone who believes in him...before the Chosen,I had no idea who you were or you even existed but now that I do,I feel im a better person because you have shown me things that I never opened my heart to see.
Jonathan, please - I really need you to include me in your prayers now. I know that you probably won't read this, but all that you do, all that The Chosen represents, changed my life completely but I am still struggling with earthly problems that cannot be avoided. I know that I am not doing it alone as He is always with us, but - it is really hard now and I chose to believe that you will hear me as well. As I KNOW that He does all the time. Pray constantly! I bet he will read your request, but mainly God will have done so! Keep God in your thoughts and try to filter your life through that! Give praise to God and candidly make requests known to Him as you encounter them! 🌿

Hi Jonathan, I just saw your interview with Catholic view. It was good and honest from your heart. I noticed that you mentioned you say the Rosary , if I may be so gracious onto you as you are learning and stepping in Faith , a correction of a word or words is your are praying the rosary not saying the rosary for when you are Praying the rosary you are in direct communication with God and Jesus Christ and Blessed Mother Mary. In reverence to their presence in humblness from your heart and meditation. Where as saying the Rosary your repeating words for the same of saying them repeatingly with use of your head thoughts and resite words and not connected directly yes there but not with profoundness of unity in the holy Spirit power! Yes a Big big difference. I hope you understand as I know better as a child of God to address this with you so you too know and believe in the difference in Praying the Rosary, as it is a way of Holiness for the journey of faith growth. Granted your still searching and sharing in Jesus Christ. I honor your step to open up to pray and share rosary to others so awesome. Clarification is best . So you can stand firm and not allow evil to break your thoughts as a busy line to God. Prayer is direct to you and God and vs versa no evil can break that connection. Truly holy spirit encounter. Saying you get static and wondering thoughts. So do allow that to happen to you or others. Very important. I write this in and with the love of Christ Jesus. I enjoyed this interview. I think you would be a “holy” candidate in the permanent diaconate formation. My husband is a deacon, loves serving liturgically and being involved in other ministries . You can still be an artist at the same time, or perhaps formally go into biblical studies and be a biblical scholar. A rewarding vocation! Just a thought. 🙂May God bless you! 🙏⛪️

Praying the Rosary is very powerful as you share with our Blessed Mother Mary , a Jew who was gifted with listening and saying Yes to God s messager holy Archangel Gabriel as Hail Mary full of Grace , the Lord has chosen you to be the Mother of His divine Son, WOW! She was humble and full of Grace , without Sin , from all women in the world , God chose Her. Chosen among women. As you pray rosary you encounter God with Her graces, so that's powerful to know the kingdom of God. Mediation. As you pray each decade. It's mysterious . She leads us to know Jesus Christ more and more . As she gave the Rosary as a tool to St. Simon Stock A Carmelite monk in monastery. Oops I forgot the years ago 1400s? Jonathan, I wonder if you have read Father Francis MacNutt's book called "Healing"? It's speaks to all Christians about Jesus' miraclous healing ministry, and it made me think of what you must try to imagine when you play that part of Him healing many people. It is so inspiring to reach a spirit of courageous outpouring. Yeshua is certainly close. I think tho that Our Redeemer is non denominational. You have done a wonderful amazing job of following his lead. I Admit I fall short on judgement. I only know of a seriously extremely long wedding when my brother married in to a catholic family . I was not ready for that but it was beautiful. I wish there was not a divide in religions. I think God just wants us to choose to love him and live as best we can by his commands.I can't imagine celebration for 7 days after a Jewish wedding but a Galilean wedding beautiful with the cup
I don't think i can watch the crucifixion scene. This stores has made Jesus so real to me that i think it may be too much. Ill force myself to watch but I feel apprehensive. I know its going to be deep and maybe even too much to handle honestly.
I didn't watch the passion of the Christ for so long because of that. Until last year and I had to stop the movie many many times. Knowing I was one of the reasons he went thru that.
@@wealldieatthehandsoflovedones yes. And this series especially bc we have a relationship with these characters too. Just the scene where Jesus was really tired and his get ached made me break down. Bc I guess I thought he was God so he was never tired or sick or in pain. But he was human. And i think i never pictured him so loving before. Jonathan is honestly perfect.exactly how i picture Jesus. His body build His smile his patience everything. And him looking tired and exhausted bc he was ministering like broke my header. And i right he was also ministering to his mom by letting her minister to him and take care of him. You know? And what she said that as a baby he needed her yet he was God... Wow like as a mom i royally identified with her. ... But now that we are attached to these characters.these actors. Seeing him in pain on the cross... Idk if I can do it. I feel I have to bc he did it for me but i really don't think I can handle it. I think its in season 6 though. So we have time... Unless they are doing some of acts. Idk.
@@lizamartin4705 I liked that scene also. I always wondered if he joked with his disciples and this shows he did. He portrays Jesus very good as an actor. I hope he never plays a bad part in other movies. This is his highlight of his career.

I love the chosen won't miss an episode. I just don't pray to Mary for nothing. She didn't die for me. Only God. Unless I'm missing something. But I love what Dallas has done with the show. Leading people to Jesus and I love the way Johnathan plays Jesus

I am a supporter of the Chosen and I’d like to ask a serious question. How would the Pope be a beacon to the world if in his own words he said Christ was a failure on the cross? And there have been plenty of other things said by him . I would like to understand.

Umm I have never heard the Pope say that, but I think if the world doesn't change and turn away from their sinful ways then Jesus would have failed because we crucified Him, and now we are pushing Him deeper into the ground with our sins. I do believe there is Hope as I don't believe that God would have let His Beloved son suffer for nothing. Remember Kimba this world is full of conspiracies and hatred, we must pray for the guidance of the Spirit to know what is the truth.

Sorry to say but it was all over the place and I don’t watch mainstream media because it’s all lies but even they had articles about it. The Pope all the popes put themselves in place of Christ like they are the go between. People need to go directly to Jesus and confess there sins He is the only one that can forgive them. And the Vatican from above is a big pregnant snake. But I’m not going to get into all of that. The Holly Spirit has shown me exactly what this world is and it is one big deception. The world has become Godless they may say god but you have to ask what god? I am full aware of the false light in this world. And the reason the evil is brought out is in the Bible. Father is bringing out what has been hidden from our sight to show the whole world the truth. Satan knows full well that this is happening so he plays one side good and one side evil but in fact both sides are evil. The lesser of two evils does not exist in Jesus’s book. You just get more evil. Satan comes as an angel of light to seek, kill, and destroy. So this way people look to the one that appears good . Peace and Grace 🙏🏼🕊❤️
I'm not catholic but I think you're taking the Pope's words out of context. As far as I know, he said in all intents and purposes, from the world's perspective, Christ was a failed leader because He died on the cross.... But of course, until He was resurrected.
