Kirsty is played by the Dectalk Express
(Rough Rita modified for higher stress level)
Pinhead/Female Cenobite is played by the Dolphin Apollo 2
(Heavily altered versions of voice 2/3)
The Asian Merchant is played by the Intex Talker
(Votrax SC-01A)

Who else finds that the Apollo II reminds them of the giant versions of Wall-E that were aboard the Axiom, the Wall-A units. Their "voices" were low and sounded much like that.

+BlizzardOfTheCoast The Apollo 2 is indeed cool. Compared to the Dectalk and Intex Talker, it's also quite versatile when it comes to shaping the voice. In addition, it can speak in several languages.

That Apolo II is a far scarier cenobite than pinhead. The over enunciation combined with that baritone, monotonous voice makes the scene sound like Rita is talking to something... otherworldly!

The Dolphin Apollo II is a software instrument; it actually uses a DSP do do the synthesis.

"Perhaps we prefer you". The female cenobite is the most frightening in my opinion. After watching the movie I was afraid to go to the bathroom alone at night. One can be an adult but she is genuinely majestically frightening.

Not sure if I qualify as a collector, but I've always been facinated by synthetic/robotic speech, so if I see a vintage device for a decent price I'll grab it :)

Thanks! There is a software synthesizer called Orpheus TTS, which is quite similar to the Apollo 2. I wasn't able to do the Pinhead voice on it, but it's still a cool sounding TTS synthesizer. For the hardware version you have to check the flea market - my unit is dated 1993.
