This is the third time i am seeing a movie with this child being "abandoned" by those whom he expects to take care of him. And omg, this child can act. He is so special & so real. Its just too much for me.

Tj's voice echoing in ears, saying "wake him up!" Broke me down in tears & cried out for a week. Rented the movie (VHS) & i refused to return it back. And i paid penalty & lost my membership of the VideoStore. Sweet memories OMG
I was 10 when I saw this and i broke down crying.... still remember how it affected me. Formidable acting to these to boys. Excellent team: Father n Son Somehow I know this pain.
Trivia fact: in the year 1979 when this movie was released, there was another movie called, Kramer vs. Kramer, that had a similar element about the mother abandoning her husband and child and begged another chance. The boy from the other film felt he did an amazing job. However when the awards were happening, and they did the nomination for best child star acting, Ricky Shroeder won and the other kid threw the tantrum of his life.
What’s also weird is 10 years before in 1969, Hoffman and Voight both were in the controversial Midnight Cowboy film which was the only X rated film to win best picture.
Just watched the film Boy oh boy what a film. A real tearjerker, jon Voight, faye dunaway and.ricky schroeder amazing acting especially Ricky as TJ. The love of a son for.his father and the love of a father for his son, truly.amazing. Its a must watch for adults and kids alike just make.sure to take an.extra pack of kleenex!
This is what happens all over the world with parents and children. Only this is packaged into a sentimental movie. In reality parents hurt their kids all the time and make them the victims of their frustrations.
Are you for real, this was one from a different era and two he obviously thought this was the best decision to give his kid a better life he new even tho it broke his sons and his own heart by slapping him the kid would listen to him, the kid begging him was breaking his heart enough, great scene to a legendary movie
The scene that did me in is which the boy fetching his drunken father from the bar. And him telling everyone " His gonna be alright, he's gonna. be alright. Right Champ?" Gosh! A child speaking like an adult soothing a child. A father behaving like a deliquent child needing comfort! What a scene!

My wife crumbled at the scene where the boy is chasing the mother away from his bed: No! You're not my mother, do you love champ? No, you're not my mother. Go away! Go away!
Um dos filmes mais lindo é ao mesmo tempo triste que eu já assisti o amor de uma criança dando a esperança de resgatar seu pai a voltar a ser um campeão
Damn, paused the movie and came straight here. Tough scene! I'm a father of 3 kids. So hard to let go of your kids, even if you know it's for a better opportunity and good for them.
I watched this film twice back to back at the pictures when it first came out . No trailers back then , little piece in the local paper that didn’t give much info…. Well ! I ugly cried at the end , then sat through and ugly cried again! 😆give it a watch !
Ricky says he does remember this scene. Was a very emotional scene for him. I dont know how his mom could stay quiet backstage knowimg she couldnt just comfort him. I guess thats what they call acting?
Yes, Kramer vs kramer was another that movie that i couldnt watch without crying, till this day and im a 52 year old man. There's another one that i watch purposely just to purge the sytem so i know im still alive, its called "without a trace" 1983 with Judd Hursch. When he finds the misssing boy in connecticut and they start driving back to N.Y. city with the lights and sirens on and as they keep passing through different jurisdictions with police escorts the cops from those jurisdictions join them back to N.Y. and thats where the tears start for me. The rest has to be seen to be felt.
For a hot minute Ricky Schroeder was the Hottest Young Child Star on the scene. Then Kramer VS Kramer comes along and one critic says "Kramer Vs Kramer makes The Champ look like a Chump!" I sometimes wonder what he thought of McCaulay Culkin's success most notably with Home Alone. I saw him in Party Monster about Michael Alig who died on Xmas Day 2020 who was The Kid Club King of the 1990's during the "House Movement".
Neither Voight nor Shroider picked an Oscar for their performance. The Academy Award repeated the same cock up when they didnt give Ed Norton an oscar for his performance in Primal Fear. In fact he deserved two Oscars in that movie potrayin two personalities.
One moment Voight slaps Schroeder, while he stands up, and the next, he's kneeling down and holding onto Schroeder, while he's feeling the force of a slap by him. Not much of a good editing job, there.
Ricky Schroeder was just as good in this scene as Henry Thomas’s knockout audition was with Spielberg ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tA5giyG8E7g.html
