I went to watch some British Saddleback pigs being judged at the Royal Show, one year. The ring had quite a few saddleback pigs of various sizes that were being judged with the handlers trying to keep control of their pigs. Every so often total chaos would ensue when pigs would escape from their handlers and go charging round the ring. It was absolutely hilarious to watch.

This breed is the base breed in American for the “spot” or “spotted Poland China” very similar only they crossed them with Poland chinas so there is definitely spots but they are more black than white. Black with white spots is more common than white with black spots. Very good pigs

The best sausages I've ever had were in your restaurant during our first visit to the farm, presumably made from pork from a Gloucestershire Old Spot. They were so nice I bought some to take home too and they were just as nice second time, so clearly not a fluke! 😋

Ah so glad you enjoyed them! We still sell those Old Spot sausages in our shop, we also have the meat available as Pork and Apple Burgers (which are delicious!)

I start wondering... Doesn''t this pure line breeding leading to the same problems as in pedigree dogs and cats? Wouldn't it benefit to cross in some fresh blood every now and then?
@rileywebb4178

These breeds are not nearly as inbred or selectively breed to highly specific and often harmful breed characteristics like dogs. IDK about the specifics of the pedigree, but it also likely isn't as controlled as purebred dogs/cats either

Is the use of nose rings strictly necesary? some regard it as cruel because it prevents their natural rooting behaviour.

@@kwgt9198 I'm so concerned with the welfare of pigs generally that I rear my own. Without nose rings. High quality feed. Mud wallow. plenty of shade. Straw in their bed. And with an excessive amount of space to run around in. But to the militant vegans I'm STILL the enemy. Somehow... Militant vegans. It doesn't matter what you do, if you don't completely subscribe to their religion they still hate you.
