At Buckingham Palace, Arlington Cemetery, and on North America's Railroads: The Changing of the Guard is bound to happen. As a lifelong railfan of Pan Am Railways and close follower of the acquisition by CSX Transportation, I headed to Maine once again to document the transition in the most mixed-up area of the railroad: District 2, melting pot of CSX and Pan Am trains, power, symbols, and operations. We would venture into New Hampshire on our first day, but the next four days were focused solely in Maine. We begin and end with Pan Am, catching everything from CSX to Amtrak in between.
The prequel:
• From Amtrak in Vermont...
The reasoning behind the CSX-Pan Am Acquisition:
• Why CSX is Buying Pan ...

I always love seeing train videos in my hometown. Rigby Yard in South Portland was my favorite place to go to watch trains growing up. I even lived a couple miles from along the greenbelt and walked the tracks that would lead to the yard all the time.

Another great effort Harrison, and I loved the intro music! It sure looks like CSX has moved in with a vengeance! By the way, you've got me in the mood for doughnuts! I'll have to deal with that issue later!

If I recall correctly, Rigby Yard is the largest railyard in New England.

I can only imagine what is going to happen to the geeps and the sd45s and the c40-8s, now that csx is taking the railroad!I hope that csx keeps them and use them to help csx run their trains.

There are no more SD45s but CSX has already repainted a C40-8 into their new paint.

That was an odd M426 lashup, Never knew there was a spongebob cab already up to rigby, and thats uncommon to see a YN3 CW40-8 with a missing numberboard on the nose. Overall awesome video! Well done! Also, what was the name of the place you stayed? I have stayed at Elmwood, just across from dunkins in wells and their suites are very nice.

The first M426-20 in this video isn't a CW40-8 , it's a AC locomotive, not DC tractive locomotive. It's a AC 4400. any CSX locomotive with a lightning bolt by the number on the locomotive cab is AC Traction motor locomotive. 22 plus years seniority on CSX here. The 2nd M426 in the video has 3 CSX AC 4400's leading Guilford locomotives 🚂

does it seem like they are using more power than usual on these trains the first one you caught had 6 or 7 and 426 had 5? thanks
@NorthCountryTrains
@NorthCountryTrains Год назад
Actual power is similar as before, the trains usually have 3 units online. The extra units are heading east to Waterville and west to East Deerfield for swapping, repairs, etc

@@NorthCountryTrains that makes more sense that not all of the engines are running, when you see what the use in the lines in NY state it’s usually 2 or 3 of the big GE’s that

Just wondering about the Pan AM road and local train symbols. Do you know which trains are still running and what symbols CSX is using? For example, is the RUED Rumford to East Deerfield still running and what symbols does that local use now? It would be nice to have a complete symbol list.
@NorthCountryTrains
@NorthCountryTrains Год назад
Symbols are currently in the process of change. For example, RUPO/PORU have become two L0xx trains that meet and turn at Danville, but I don’t know what those symbols are.

CSX got rid of there entire C40-8 locomotives only to require them in the Gilford deal. Not only that I seen one already painted into the CSX paint scheme. This doesn't make sense to me, especially when they have newer and better locomotives in storage to put to use on the Gilford System.

Somewhere along the way I saw that Dash 8s were going to have a rebuild program after all and maybe turn into A.C. units. 😮 Thumbs up to upgrades.
