Castle 2 was my childhood. I had so many crazy potlines, my main story was about medieval England and Spain uniting and warring against the orcs and skeletons. I made my own castle from a bunch of different smaller sets. I took it very serious, even forcing the peasants to pay taxes. Then I turned 12 and my little siblings destroyed everything, it was a fine age to stop.

In the mid 90s, I was saving up to buy the 5590 Model Team set. My older brother sort of said that for my birthday, he would give me the rest of the money I needed. I mean, I had catalogue photos of 5590 taped up in my room, I wanted it so bad. In my birthday, my brother hands me a tiny box. I unwrapped it and it was that Wolfpack one with the ghost and tree. I thought THAT was the gift so I feigned gratitude and a little later I opened the box, and he had already slipped the rest of the money into the box, and I went to Toys R Us that night and bought it. It was the best lego buying experience of my life!

One of my birthday gifts when I was a child was the 6073 castle. I still have it stuffed away, assembled. The original cord for the drawbridge is gone and I had to replace a green plate, but it still looks like my childhood. We had a lovebird that loved to play in that castle. Everytime we lowered the drawbridge, he would run in and out. I got some other knight themed sets from that era as well, like the armor shop. Not sure if that's still complete though, you tend to lose stuff in 35-40 years.

Without a doubt, even with all the licensed stuff Lego has made that I love very dearly, Lego Castles/Kingdoms and Pirates are easily my favorite lines of sets with Castles barely beating out Pirates. I love history already, and being able to play with Legos that directly connect to my lifelong passions is so awesome I can’t even describe. Someday I hope to amass a great collection of Castles sets so I can gaze upon my plastic kingdom in reverence and satisfaction after years of searching and building

I, too, love history and couldn't agree more. I've collected a fair amount of castle sets and well over 500 castle figs of every faction on display. The Castle sets were actually my first Legos. I acquired three small sets from the early 1990s. Since my family was struggling financially at that time, I highly valued these small sets. As a kid from Brazil, born from not so well-off parents, the castle Lego sets were my dream 😢! I never had them. My dad only had enough money to buy smaller sets. I only had a “dragon masters” dragon carriage. It was all I had got back then. Now I am a history teacher and I wish Lego would make more sets related to historical themes. But unfortunately Lego now only makes tacky themes like Ninjago and 3rd party themes like marvel heroes.

Random pro tip I learned for stickers as I’m someone who hates when they’re crooked: 1. Spray the part with windex 2. LIGHTLY lay the sticker on 3. Without pressing it down, push the sticker by the edges and slide it around til it’s on perfectly :D

Add to the inherent beauty also the nostalgia factor of all the people who grew up with castles between the 1980s and the 2010s (we're talking about two generations) and you have a lot of potential fans for a new wave of Lego castles.

After watching this, I went online to hunt down my first Lego castle, the one I returned to no matter what new Legos Santa brought me... And I found it! It's the King Leo Castle (6098/6091), released in 2000. It had a large symmetrical, rectangular raised base plate with four hollow corners so you could move the four different towers around, and in the center was a taller tower, the castle proper. It had everything: catapult, traps, flying chest, drawbridge, descending gate, stained glass, skeleton figures, a horse, a queen... Despite a somewhat plain aesthetic, it was versatile in its build and super imaginative. I wonder which line of castles King Leo was part of or if it was even connected to the "lore"? The knight figures don't have any markings to signal any of the groups in the video. It seems like a stand-alone released after the original Castle was discontinued (1999) but before Castle 2 appeared (2007). Anyone else familiar with this one?

My youth was essentially castle theme + vikings theme. Every day there was a battle or village raid.

If only I had money.. I'd be spending so much on these old sets and pieces and castle pieces. Making many castles- Memories of my childhood, thank you for unlocking long forgotten memories. I would love to see the continuation of these, and maybe each set having its own showcase if possible.

I would definitely buy a new castle set if they come out with a 50-80 dollar price tag. I love Lego Castle but the cheapest Castle set you can buy now is for $100! Lego really needs to make some smaller sets, some medium sets, and then one big banger $400 set like Lion Knights Castle. Keep up the great work!❤
