The Alyssa vs Shannon thing really sucked because honestly I think Prue and Phoebes relationship was the most impactful and honestly the most realistic sibling like relationship. I love Prue/Piper and Piper/Phoebe, but watching Prue and Phoebes relationships grow and change both characters for the better was really great to watch. The show almost got there again with the development of Piper and Paige’s relationship but it never quite got there for me.
@Ask Scott I agree. She felt out of the loop not to mention the whole story changed basically ro explain why Paige exists. I wish they have gotten over their issues 😕 how different it could have been.
I get that Shannon and Alyssa didn't like each other or whatever it was but still whoever decided that Prue needed To go and NOT PHEOBE was insane! So insane! Prue is gold! Phoebe ended up having babies with cupid! Literally cupid, how anticlimactic is that?! I would be far more interested in the one Prue decided to love and have children with ... honestly
@@lindleloverwatterson3484 I’ve heard that Holly has went on record saying that production stepped in during the bad period and basically forced Alyssa and Shannon into a sit down. She said that in her opinion that this was the final nail in the coffin and was basically adding fuel to the fire. I can’t help but think that maybe the break between season three and four could have let the situation die down and let the actresses catch their breaths and even maybe have sorted the situation themselves. I will admit that I am a lover of phoebe Halliwell, she was my fave sister honestly, but the Phoebe we ended up with in season 8 was a far cry from the character when she was at her best (the first three years). Also rewatching it now as an adult and I just cringe at how massive her characters nosedive is 😬
@@Whatshisface92 from videos I've seen of Alyssa Milano she did eventually take some responsibility for what happened between her and Shannon. She cited 'competitiveness' between them and wished that she'd been more collaborative. Own thoughts now but if they'd have been like that from the start I wonder if Shannon would've stuck around a season or two longer
Prues character development was one of the best I’ve seen in any series . Especially for just 3 seasons. Season 3 will always and forever be the best season of charmed. And the biggest reason was bc of pure. She was the drive that kept the other two going and she carried them and ultimately gave them the tools they’d need to take over when she died. She’s like the true matriarch of the show. No offense to grams. Lol
I love that the change in her character is shown with her costumes. She starts off dressing like a responsible adult, which represents her loss of childhood, but eventually allows brighter colours and looser clothes into her wardrobe, reclaiming her youth. It really shows how she's finally accepting her real self and is comfortable with her witch nature.
Shannon’s character as Prue was one of the best that ever did it I thought she was so amazing at what she did when it came to this show in particular 🌹❤️🥰❤️
Prue is quite honestly one of the best written characters on tv in that era. Shannen Doherty absolutely nailed it and I really hope that one day they do get a reboot, even just a short one.
Also even her hair evolution was symbolic of her character. From that ultra structured short do in season one, to the progressively longer hair in season two and finally the very long and more mane-like hair in season three signifying her letting herself go. It was one of the best arcs for a character in such a short amount of time. It even made her cliffhanger death make sense upon repeated views though at the time I thought it was stupid how they just discarded her character. Now I wonder what they could have even done to progress her story outside of creating her own family. It would feel as forced as most of Phoebe's relationships after Cole. Her character had the best run because she didn't live long enough to have her character become a scumbag like they did to Phoebe and Piper.
jaymesEo6 I think they ruined Grams and Pheobe's character after Prue's death, but I actually liked Piper's character development. To me, Piper's arc was the only thing I liked about the later seasons, since she was such a weak character compared to her sisters in the early seasons.
@@briannalee1998 I think she had a fantastic arc the 4th season. Her coming to terms being hoisted to the lead and the oldest sister, the feeling of not measuring up to Prue and forever living in her shadow to being the most powerful Charmed one of the reconstituted Po3. I think it went off the rails when Holly and Alyssa became producers. Their characters after weren't allowed to be wrong or be challenged or it was everyone elses fault and they had a free get out of vanquish free card because they were perfect and they "had given so much already" and everyone else is clearly evil, even when clearly not and being controlled by evil "thanks Cole-bama).
I recently re-watched all 8 seasons of Charmed and found myself relating most with Prue. I'm the eldest child in my family and I also have that maternal drive that Prue had in season 1 and even though my mom is alive and well, I still looked after my siblings a lot, and sometimes it's hard to accept that they're all growing and soon won't need me anymore. And watching Prue's death now as an adult was really hard. Especially since in the earlier episodes she spoke of wanting a family and seeing her robbed of that just breaks my heart. It's a shame that Shannon Doherty never reappeared in the show, it would've been nice to see the sister's reunite, especially with Piper as she was most affected by Prue's passing and her becoming the oldest sister. And Paige meeting Prue would've been a great moment. Such a long comment but anyway, thank you for making this video about Prue! Will you be making videos about the other sisters as well?
i started watching charmed a few months ago & Prue became my favorite right away she was such a complex & well developed character & had so much to give they could've done such great story lines with her character, i hated that she was only there for 3 seasons in which in my opinion were the best
Prue is undoubtedly my favourite representation of an older sister. The one who remembers the most, has the worst trust issues, etc. In a short time her character did really open up and evolve and it’s so disappointing that she was killed off (esp in such a lame way).
I think every oldest sibling (me included) who lost their childhood over something related to Prue on a very, very personal level. We were robbed of a beautiful character ark.
I think it was a serious disservice to the series that Prue was killed off. I also think the way her character died was too vague. They didn’t even explain in detail how she died, just showing her getting slammed through a wall. I mean the sisters have all died in much more interesting ways throughout the show, so that death scene was really underwhelming when you think about how powerful Prue initially was at that point. I also think it was really bad that she never came back as a ghost. The network should have tried to compromise with Shannon to at least let her come back one time in officially meet Paige and give phoebe and piper more closure. Honestly, if Phoebe had died I think it would’ve been a bit better. Piper definitely couldn’t have stayed dead, cause she’s really almost the heart of the show and I don’t think Leo’s character wouldn’t have much reason to stick around at that point. I also think it’s just really sad Prue never got to have her own identity outside of family obligations and ultimately died young just like her mom. I think that’s why Gram’s said she was having a hard time adjusting to being dead, because she really did fear she’d end up like her mother. I think this was also why piper was so hurt, because she saw how screwed up it was that Prue never really got a chance to live her own life. Ultimately I think Prue being the rock for all of them in the first 3 seasons did give the other two characters the strength and intelligence to move on without her. It’s also good they gave piper a more lethal power because Paige being the youngest and strongest doesn’t make much sense. She was too new and insecure of not being able to match up to Prue to take the lead.
Great points but I disagree with you about the hypothetic deaths of the other sister. Even though I hated that Shannon left the show, I thought her character's death was the most useful to the character development of the other sisters. Because Piper evolved from the weakest to the strongest sister and phoebe had to become a peace maker. A role she never thought she'd play. Also Rose mcGowan's introduction was set up well in season 2. But going back to Prue. Her death made sense in her arc of being too fearless, too daring and bit reckless. All the things Prue was. She risked her life all the time and ran toward danger. I think the fact that it led to her demise was very poetic.
I think Shannen’s future was up in the air and when the decision was made they couldn’t show her likeness so they told the story as best they could. They could have compromised in bringing her back, but they could have re-casted Prue for ghost scenes. I always thought Lisa Edelstein or even Charisma Carpenter could play Prue. But they used Charisma to play Kira in season 7.
@@lungafilmz3214 , Piper was never the weakest. And Piper could be strong with Prue. In fact, Prue made the Power of Three seem stronger. They were weaker with Paige.
Shannen Doherty is a power house of an actress! So relatable and real. When she left it was a hole that just could not be filled. And I love the other actresses . Prue was just super special in every aspect and Shannen brought her too life perfectly 💖💖💖💖💖👍
Prue’s progression was fantastic. But, the most impressive was Piper. A sister who never lived without a big sister….taking over and caring for the entire family through two pregnancies. It is so moving and impressive. Such gifted actors and writers!
It's interesting that you said it was great in season 3 how she became independent of her sisters. I have it in mind that she, along with Piper and Phoebe, were trailing off into their own paths. The thing is, the Charmed Ones are at their strongest when they are together and between Piper's concern in normal life, Phoebe becoming more distant with her romance to Cole, and Prue being more determined to train and combat evil (along with her impulsive attitude in confronting evil), all these things pushed them to be more independent of each other but also more vulnerable. Which I imagine is what lead to Prue's death (overlooking meta events).
@@chrissyroseup69 Wrong, the reason prue would have died as a plot is that prue even siad multipe times that she would die young like her mother and she also saw the angel of death a few epsoiodes before she would die as teh angel says its not your time.......yet. Also the reason that ure dies is cuz she was very reckless and head strong in teh sense that she would sacrifise herself for her innocnents! Prue was looking for trouble and demons later on as she was on a warpath and that made her reckless especially sicne she was so powerful!
@@leanture3685 price the character only died cause shannen didn’t want to do the show anymore if she decided to stay in season 4 it would have been the three halliwell sisters like it always was
Paige sucked. MY sister and I used to wake up two hours befire school just to watch charmed we stopped after the first few episodes of season 4. It wasn't the same without Prue.and Paige didn't make up for her being gone
I don't really respond well to people like her (people are glossing over her flaws). I mean, who tf just straight talks to their sisters like that? They're adults. Wtf? & why did she accuse Phoebe of sleeping w/ that asshole w/out hearing her out? She changed, but her initial introduction wasn't exactly someone to look up to.
@@Monie71793 I mean she probably had her reasons but it wasn't just the Roger thing that strain their relationship it was other things. All the sisters have their own flaws but it seems like people gloss over Piper's not Prue or Phoebes, especially since she is a fan favorite. This video was to show her growth through her time in the show.
@@Monie71793 it doesn't matter if we are are talking about piper or not all of them have their flaws that's what makes them characters. Like I said she had her reasons why her and Phoebe fell out and let's not act like when her sisters like a guy phoebe doesn't try to push up on their guy. So like I said she has her reasons but that's why this video was made to show her characterization and how impactful she is while acknowledging her flaws.
@@Monie71793 , many people talk to their siblings like that. And so what if she accused Phoebe of sleeping with Roger? They got over that and moved on.
This was wonderfully done. Thank you! I really loved the character Prue and greatly appreciate Shannen Doherty for gifting her to us. When the character died, I cried for days and didn’t think I could continue with the show. Yet, Piper really stepped into the oldest sister shoes. I thought that she grew to be even more fierce than Prue. Also, Paige was the perfect fourth sister. Although, Prue always remained my favorite, with Shannen gone, the other characters developed greatly. Still, I’m lukewarm on Phoebe. She had her wonderful moments but the Cole story was a bit much.
Prue was my favorite sister when I watched, but once she died I shifted to liking Paige the most. I hated most of Cole's arcs in the show and I feel like he just made every character he came in contact with worse. I did like his character, but they way they wrote around him became too annoying. I think the show got good again after they killed him off sadly. The whole Christy shenanigans in season 8 is also one of my more hated arcs.
I don't remember why I didn't like her as a kid but now I much prefer her time on the show now. And Prue was the only one who did her damn Wiccan job without crying about it all day. I'd love to see how it would have been with Prue Piper and Paige
Pure was the best character! The strongest as well! I loved how they made her such a mother figure to them. Even when she died you can tell piper really missed a void in her life with prue gone!
Always have a soft spot for Prue , charmed feels like two different shows even thought the first 5 seasons were great even after Prue cuz season 4 was amazing the dark storyline made it so much better after season 5 it kinda went crazy though season 7 was good and the last 4 episodes of season 8 were great though ..
Giving how much she grew and how badass she was in just 3 seasons , it would have been mindblowing that she stayed and see the evolution throughout the seasons
Finally a video about Prue Halliwell one of the best and most underrated female characters of all time! I love her so much. Thank you for making this. Can you do a video of Claire Bennet from Heroes? She is also an extremely underrated character who had great development.
Hell no, I mean she was bad ass. Don't get me wrong I love her, but saying she was the best??? Nope. It's definitely Phoebe. Take it from the ultimate charmed fan 😁👍 👍💯
Prue will be forever my favourite character! I relate to her so much because I'm also the old sister and I can relate as being not the fun sister but rather the mature one
Yes yes yes!! Please do a character analysis for each of the sisters. Or at least for Piper. She's my favourite and she had such an amazing character arc going from hopeless romantic and peacekeeper to cynic. More than anybody else she embodied different familial roles, going from middle sister to eldest sister and mother and wife and even the only grandma visible on the show. EDIT: The only grandma within the sisters, not counting grams of course.
All 4 were great actresses on the show, but Shannen was probably the best. Such a raw charisma, and never "over-acted" - very subtle nuances in her acting, and always this sadness / heaviness in her eyes indicative of the pressures she felt as the oldest sister.
Even though i hate that Shannon left the show, I thought her character's death was very useful to the character development of the other sisters. Because piper evolved from the weakest to the strongest and phoebe had to become a peace maker. A role she never thought she'd play. Also Rose mcGowan's introduction was set up well. But going back to Prue. Her death made sense in her season 3 arc of being too fearless, daring and bit reckless. All the things Prue was. That's why she was infected with "pride" She risked her life all the time and ran toward danger. I think the fact that it led to her demise was very poetic. Miss you forever Prue 😘
Thank you for this...though I love magic and the craft, I LOVE the care and study they gave to birth order and family dynamics more than anything. Oldest, middle and youngest can often have distinct personality traits...the writers nailed it in my opinion. I hope this new reboot puts care into this as they have complicated it with the oldest of the two and the half sister who is the eldest of the three, with no history of having siblings. I hope they know this matters.
That's 'cause the creator wanted to focus on their personalities along _with_ the magic instead of just making a magical show. & I read that the women are based on Constance & her real siblings.
Nothing more to say. You said everything & so beautifully as well. She was my favourite character in Charmed. Hope Shannen Doherty triumphs over her cancer battle & generations to come stumble across this original Charmed as well. It's definitely timeless & a gift that keeps on giving
Prue was one of my favorite characters and I always wanted to see a video done on her. She was real and complex, badass and feminine. The writers showed that she was tough and grew after everything she went through. This was a fantastic analysis on her arc. I like Paige, but I still think she show would've been better if Constance M. Burge continued as the show runner instead of Brett Kurt (he ruined the show and characters especially Phoebe and Grams) and if they kept Prue as a character on the show and continued with the darkness. The first three seasons were ahead of its time. Prue and Phoebe were amazing. Piper's character development ended up being the later seasons redeeming quality. I can't help but wonder if they still would have made Piper a stronger character if she didn't lose Prue. Probably not. If they brought Prue back after season 4 or kept her and still had Piper evolve into a stronger character, the last few seasons would've been amazing. At least they were fun.
she was my favourite sister, and I was so devestaded when she died. I did not like how they put Paige in, as if she could replace here. I loved Pipers reaction, when she first appered, when she wanted to close the P3 "We are not 3 anymore"
Shannen did a fantastic job on charmed. By far the best character. Prue was charmed and losing her was a big slap to the show. They should have worked with her to keep her got rid of Alyssa
Yes! I said this while this show was on the WB. they killed tha wrong sister and with it went their whole show. Season 4 had some good moments but seasons 5-8 were just not it.
Me too! Season 4 episodes 1 & 2 were good..then they lost me..I still watched tha show cause I was invested..but I never got into seasons 4-8 like I did 1-3
"The Fourth Sister" was a favorite episode of mine from the first season. I also loved that little heart-shaped pendant Prue wore. I tried looking for one like it in the department stores, but I could never find one. :)
Prue was just overly protective and misunderstood but she deeply loved Phoebie and Piper. She isn’t my favourite but I understand her struggle with grief and need of control to protect who she loves.
I find it annoying that Piper and Phoebe were so willing to misunderstand and castigate Prue for her anger towards their father. Like she didn't have any right to be angry and them pushing their own feelings towards her.
Please do one about Phoebe and Piper!I love those videos. I love charmed and have watched it like 100 times tbh. When I was younger I didnt like Prue but as I got older the more she got my favorite. Specially the season 1 Prue. But I love every sister und grew up with them. I couldnt choose who is my favorite
What can I say... Amazing ! You actually explained why Prue was my favorite character and why I would always miss her in the next seasons... Her character development is one of the best I have ever seen! And it was only in 3 seasons but it came out so naturally.. The writers did a fantastic job and Shannen Doherty gave the character life! How this so video came just now in my recommendations I don't know! Great analysis and great montage!
Omg she was this shows best character!! It just was not the same with out prue Hallliwell. Prue Halliwell was the most awesome witch of the series. It's really a shame she could not stay in the tv show.
You hit the nail on the head with this one! I think Prue had such an amazing development, and partly because she was the ‘main character’ during the first three seasons; I felt like she had a huge/an important role within the story, that it all felt off afterwards. Don’t get me wrong I adore Paige! But I would be remiss if I acted like Prue’s absence wasn’t felt; the showed changed afterwards and I don’t know if it was for the better. Season 4-5 were great, but it dropped started at season 6 :/ It would have been so cool if Prue came back, and Paige becomes the Whitelighter if the charmed ones, so that all four witches can still co-exist without harming the power of three!!
I was so mad when she quit the show and they had to kill her off Prue was a great character not only her power of Telekinesis which I wish I have right now but her goal to protect her sisters
This is a great video it explains about everything about Pure and what all 3 seasons of Charmed greatest it was with Pure she will not be forgotten and her heart will go on for Always
@@tasha0099She didn't leave because of an illness. She left because Alyssa got jealous of Shannen and got her fired. Shannen didn't get sick until years later.
fantastic work on this video, you go into so much detail. shannen is such a powerful actress. seasons 1-3 were really special due to her + it was the shows beginning. charmed had such a unique feel to it. love the inside of the manor- the pastel colors, pinks, stained glass, etc.
This is such a great video. It dives in and expresses the complexities of Prue perfectly. Can’t wait for more. Also will you be doing any content on the Charmed remake once it airs?
The remake shouldn't use Charmed as the title. They could have built the show up instead of ruining the original Charmed name and its reputation. They did the same with Ghostbusters (all women cast) luckily that was in a different dimension and the latest Ghostbusters will continue on from the last. I hope this charmed series is also from a different dimension too and doesn't hurt the best and original Charmed. I'm a massive Charmed fan ever since it was aired.
It was sad that Prue said that everytime ppl say she looked like Patty she was like she was afraid that she looked like her everyday and one day die young like her. And I was crying a little because it all came true only a different elemental demon Patty was killed by a water demon and Prue was killed by an Air demon. Another thing she said that one day she would have kids but that never happened and her career was basically just starting
I watched the show when I was like 11 and Prue has always been my favorite. How could anyone hate Prue? I’ve loved her so much. I feel like the haters are just immature shallow-minded twats who think they’re so much fun while in fact, they’re actually full of 💩 and stupidity 🙏🏻
I was young when the whole Shannon/Alyssa drama went down, I didn’t know the whole scope of it and why she was no longer on the show. So when I would watch week to week and see how they would bring her back ....but they never did I was not a happy camper. Prue was my favorite because I associated her to Jean Grey. Now before you say why didn’t you check online this was back in the day and the internet was not what it was today haha, and my parents rarely let me go online. It made me hate Phoebe and I refused to watch the later seasons with the same devotion as the first three.
I love Prue, but I personally prefer Paige's character. I feel like Prue's character was so good it could have been her own show, but I like that when Paige was there it seemed more equal as far as their contribution. My favorite thing about Prue was her independence and my favorite thing about Paige was her originality.
Prue was like the main sister with the most strongest powers even in the comics she could wipe the floor with all the other sisters but ppl can’t be mad when it’s canon that the oldest sister is the strou
i love this video! as a kid i never cared much for prue, but as an adult her character and storyline is actually one of the more interesting things about the show. i especially love her and phoebe's relationship in season 1! and i think her dying young is so tragic but also perfect in a way. shannen was smart to get out tbh, i can't imagine a self-obsessed season 8 prue, that would've ruined her like it ruined the other sisters...
Same I hated Prue when I was younger. As I got older tho and rewatched her seasons she instantly has became my favorite sister. Which was broken down in this video I didn’t like her when I was younger because she was just to bossy. As I got older and more mature I saw it as being responsible. Not to mention that the lady was just IT!!! like the confidence she had was beyond sexy the role was definitely meant for Shannen and made for Shannen I always wonder the the show would’ve been like if she don’t leave or even if she came back a few times like grams and Patty.
To be fair to the show, Constance Burge (the original writer) left with Shannen when she did, so season eight likely would've been drastically different from the flaming garbage it is now had they both stayed
Always hoped Prue would return and work with Paige before the end of the show Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige working together in a double episode or even a story arc would have been phenomenal. Tried to get into the new show but couldn’t I watched half a season and can’t even remember 2 of the sisters names only one I remember is Maggie.
This was an interesting watch. Prue was never my favorite but she had some great qualities and her dynamic with the other sisters was always authentic. Shannen is an amazing actress and it would've been great to see Prue in certain circumstances that happened after her death. I wonder where her photography would've taken her, would they have paired her with a human like they eventually did Paige? So many avenues but then again where would Piper and Phoebe be? Some things happen for a reason and her death allowed the other two to actually grow up. I would love to see this done on the other sisters and even Leo.
Ellyse MacAllister doing so will be full circle since piper was more timid, phoebe was more immature, and Paige struggled with fitting in with the charmed legacy
