No, he said the difference between the college and nfl balls was the nfl balls were a little bigger and harder to see because there’s not lines on the nfl ball he never said they were “too big”
The Bengals were in a similar position a couple years ago when they had Penei Sewell and Jamar Chase on the board. Bengals caught a lot of heat for taking Chase considering Burrows lack of help on the O-line. It worked out for the Bengals but they lost the Super Bowl because Burrow still had no help on the offensive line. When your team is hyping up your 2nd round receiver pick instead of last years first round pick that usually isn’t a good sign for the former first round receiver. With Johnson’s height and athleticism on paper he is an ideal number 1 target. Some first round receivers don’t pan out, Treylon Burks is just a recent example. He’s like 5th on the Titans depth chart and will probably be traded at the deadline to a WR needy team for at most a 6th round pick.
I thought we already knew that this was a bad pick by the chargers? He was terrible last season and the fact that he's still having drop issues, bad ones, means two things. Either he somehow turns around in a record pace, or he just chase claypool 2.0
maybe he is but we don’t know yet. he’s had one year to play. let him get out of the rookie jitters and have a billion time better coach. maybe he’ll step up after his rookie year and given the time to start.
@@FierceRex7567 that is true, and I hope he proves me wrong but we need to see the improvement, maybe he pulls a Jamar Chase and looks bad in the preseason and balls the rest of the season.
I aint no Chargers fan but I live in South Georgia and im a Dawgs fan!! And all i got to say is yall gonna love Ladd! That man is a football player before anything else. Yall are gonna love him
I’ve been watching your NBA channel and forgot you have this NFL channel, which I’ve been waiting for to kick into gear since hall of fame game is today, love the content 🎉🎉🤙
Trust me the only reason he is still on the team is because he’s a 1st round pick but I doubt Jim banking on him more if he’s just gonna rebuild our WR room ladd was the first building block
This guy was my 2nd to last pick in fantasy &he never did anything; Johnson couldn't even get open, let alone catch passes. However all insiders loved him going into the draft &so did fantasy-experts cuz I thought he a good college player &that's it. But all insiders talked him up &said he'd be special but this is an example of just cuz you're 6'3 &have speed doesn't mean you can be a receiver in the NFL
As a lifelong Chiefs fan, I REALLY wanted this guy in the draft. 20/20 hindsight makes me glad that we didn't take him. One of the several dozen reasons I'm not GM of the Chiefs.
The problem will be Greg Roman, regardless of who the weapons are. There’s a reason the ravens got rid of him: he has absolutely no clue how to design a passing offense. It worked in Baltimore because Lamar covered up the problems with his running ability, but Justin Herbert is not a runner, at least not on Lamar’s level. So at the end of the day, this looks like a misguided attempt to copy the ravens without understanding why they’re actually good.
No they got rid of him to make excuses for Lamar to check the stats my boi Lamar won an mvp and the offense was always top 10 not his fault ravens can’t draft good receivers
The only success Roman has ever had involved having big time running QBs. I would hire him to handle the rushing game, but NEVER TO handle the entire offensive game. Especially passing game...
@@TheRealPSKilla502 not The Reason is Lamar sucked dropping back and making reads and tucked the ball . Maybe you did not watch last years playoff? Also what Wrs did Lamar have while Roman was there ?
Should have took Malik Nabers. I know Hebert needs protection but we got rid of one great and another very good receiver. Johnson can’t catch and idk why we didn’t draft a receiver
The Chargers have a history of drafting the top skill player ..and a history of losing. Jim Harbaugh has a history of winning everywhere he goes .. and he NEVER NEVER NEVER has top receivers. I will take Harbaugh's priorities every day.
@@dogonit7412 we just been through this song and dance so many times. The best coach we had has been marty schottenheimer and since we let him go when he would have eventually got us over the hump idk
i unfortunately a Chargers fan, and on draft night I knew we were looking at a bust. Guy is a colostomy bag compared to Mike Will, and he went to TCU so that double sucks
What’s worse than a guy paid to catch a ball who can’t catch a ball. Go figure. How do these guys get drafted high I’m from Philly I’ve gone thru this before. It’s the worst. Keep hoping it’ll get better the next week. It never does.
Having Mike Williams is like not having a WR anyways, just throwing 10's of millions of $$ out the window for him to ride a bike on the side. and K. Allen was dropping - actually dropped more passes last year. But no one wants to remember that. The game was everyone remembers the drop by QJ, K. Allen dropped 2 sure TDs then they lost by less than 1 score. Keenen dropped one that hit him in the hands at the 2-yard line going in on the first drive and then again, in the 3rd quarter dropped on in the endzone that hit him right between the numbers.
Quentin Johnston entered the draft early. He may not have had a great rookie year. But, he had some great veteran receivers around him. This year will be a difference maker. Take what he learned from last year along with substantially better coaching and QJ will show up this season.
So they brought in a run first head coach, and an OC of a run first team, while also bringing in that OC's running backs. And then they let their three best receiving threats walk. It feels like they are determined to squander Herberts career at this point, but what do I know. And before anyone says "this worked for the Chiefs last year," Herbert simply isn't as good as Mahomes, and the Chargers defense isn't anywhere near as good as the Chiefs either.
He has just a little better production than our 6-round pick, Trey Palmer. Not good for a 1st rounder, but he can have a good jump on his sophomore year. Now the scary part is the drops, and catching with his body is a terrible sign. Hope he can fix it and have a good year.
Man this is going to haunt me we could have gotten Zay flowers but Tom telesco man had to go with this guy hope Quentin can do something for the bolts this year if not I feel he’s going to get no playing time cuz Ik Jim don’t like his receivers dropping the ball
@@chiefkeef74tbf Puka came out of nowhere. No one would’ve expected him to ball out as a 5th round pick. But I’m still pissed Telesco picked QJ over Addison or Zay
I live in Athens and I’ve met Ladd and he’s amazing football player and an even better person. He’s gonna be a Julian Edelman type player for them for many years
QJ is the equivalent of a channel like TheFlightMike when it comes to football. Keep grinding Mike, we appreciate you for always putting out entertainment.
He will always be haunted by all his dropped passes. He's a wide receiver who can't catch. It was a poor choice by Stayley, just like many many other poor choices he made. QJ is a bust. Won't be a starting WR this year.
Don't sleep on Ladd McConkey! He's about to shock the NFL, puka nacua status! I'm drafting him for sure in my 12 year fantasy league. Hearing that Johnson is struggling is music to my ears, more points for my boy!
If any coach can unlock dudes talent and get greatness out of him then it’s Jim Harbough. Give them a year or two together and then if he still ain’t living up then he’s got to go.
I would never want to see my son give up. I hope he can pull it together QJ. Cmon man! Bolt up, your time is coming. Ha ha Lambo Ladd I like that nickname btw
Just from the beginning, sayin the chargers needed a tight end more than a wide reciever shows a profound lack of knowledge. Gerald Everett is a top 10 te and parham is sneaky good. The issue with the wr corp is the depths. You could practically count on one or both of the top 2 options to get injured and counting a recording corp of Josh Palmer Jalen guyton simi fehoko is far from ideal
Sup Mike! Charger Fan here. I’m hopeful for QJ im not going to call him a bust. He will be put into a position to succeed, and if he doesn’t well we will just chalk it up to Tom Telesco pick and move on. ⚡️⚡️⚡️💣💣⚡️⚡️⚡️
Harbaugh made me interested in the Chargers, drafting Joe Alt made it kinda interesting, but the rest of the team doesn't make me super optimistic. Gonna be following Keenan Allan to the Bears and see how they fair
the rest of the team doesn't? Cornerback and defensive tackle are questionable but the rest of the team is lookin pretty solid. Derwin James, Alohi Gilman, Tony Jefferson at safety. Joey Bosa, Khalil Mack, Tuli Tuopulotu, Bud Dupree (top 5 edge rushing group in the league? lol), drafting Ladd McConkey, signing DJ Chark, Joshua Palmer still here (granted a step back from the WR room with Keenan and Mike), offensive line looking loaded with Slater, Johnson, Bozeman, Pipkins, Alt, and Salyer. Running backs Edwards and Dobbins. Herbert at QB. pretty optimistic actually. Rooting for Keenan to do well with the Bears too!
Let's see if Harbaugh can pull the pro outta QJ...as a Niner fan, I remember Michael Crabtree being lackluster his first 2 seasons until Harbaugh got there in 2011. He was a high pick (I think the first WR off the board) that had low stats those first seasons. Harbaugh is the Whisperer.
If I remember that draft correctly, Crabtree should have been the first receiver chosen, but Al Davis, famously believing you can't coach speed, made the Raiders management take the speedy Darius Heyward-Bey from Maryland. Jim Harbaugh is not his calm brother John. He is a notorious hot-head who will run away and leave the Bolts high and dry as soon as he doesn't get his way. He was tenacious and competitive as Hell as a QB, but never won anything as a player, fell painfully short in the Super Bowl as a HC, and as we are finding out this last week, very likely cheated to win an NCAA Championship at UM. The Chargers can keep the primadonna Harbaugh brother--Until he ditches them! Glad the Raiders went with AP!
Harbaugh will use him as a blocker. Receivers are not a big deal in a Harbaugh offense. It’s about TEs and RBs. Huge O-Linemen are more important than receivers.
We have Harbaugh. I’m not worried about WRs because chargers are gonna pound the ball. Look up passing every year Harbaugh has been coach. It’s gonna be 60% run and then let Hebert do some magic sort of like Pete with Russell (I love Hebert but also think will be great for him having an offense he won’t have to be god mode for)
Bro, the Chargers even used their back end picks on his college QB and WR2 teammate that same draft! all that to help him get good and he still bustin!
Wow... It's Only Q. Johnson, Palmer and McConkey..." - No respect for Jerry Rice's boy? Jerry Rice was POed that his boy wasn't drafted higher and said he was going to personally train him before this season. But that's just Jerry Rice, he probably doesn't know anything about catching passes. DJ Chark and a room full of others. I'm going to save this in my favorites and comeback and remind everyone what they said later. I love "I lOOOOOLVE saying 'Told u so.'"
I feel like at a certain point you gotta stop drafting tcu wrs like twice is a coincidence but 3 times is a pattern with Josh Dotson reagor and Johnston now
The chargers are cursed cursed because moving cities didn't help, but its makes no sense how a team in different eras are in the regular but post season are terrible oh iits the owner, yeah
I think Herbert is best compared to Aikman. Both can just throw any route. Harbaugh is talented at seeing a talent and placing that talent to succeed. So maybe, like Aikman, it’s not the West Coast Offense but more rather. Taking the deep ball when available.
No matter what he has 1 season done. Its too soon to call him a bust. We saw 10 1stt rounders heavily struggle including the #1 overall pick. I am going to jump to any conclusions at this time. Its simply to soon. Idc about what happens in camp or preseason. Until I see him on the actual field this season I wont say anything just yet.
People are to quick to judge! I believe QJ will be just fine everybody said the same thing about Chase and he was fine! Give the man some time and stop hating!
Easy when saying the chargers have a “great o-line” still yet to be seen. Lost a good center and replaced him with a meh, center. Alt is unproven but more than likely will be good but we shall see
They MIGHT be good enough to snag a playoff spot, but they're not even close yet to beating the Chiefs or Ravens! These are the teams to beat and good luck with that!!
Most Charger Fans are stupid on this subject- First QJ has never been a deep ball 50/50 type of Receiver His forte will be shallow crossers / Slants where he can use His twitch……and speaking of that Green Bay game - Keenan Allen dropped 2 Sure TD’s that hit him right in the chest …. QJ will be just fine ……, and DJ Chark gonna have a Big Year⚡️🆙
QJ isn’t confident in catching with his hands but that’s a coaching thing because why isn’t or hasn’t that being worked on ALL PRESEASON?? Chargers fans have a right to be WORRIED because a 6’3 receiver that can’t catch a deep ball with his hands is a bust especially drafted first round
Feel bad for Ladd he deserved better. He wanted WR1 but it’s not gonna end well for him. He needs another good WR to help keep the defense off him. The chargers WR room is the worst I have seen in the nfl ever
He has never been a cheaper buy than right now. many people forget very famous WR's didnt have their breakout until year 3. (think dez bryant) if you like to gamble and like his stats and think he can improve enough. hes a buy for sure right now in dynasty fantasy football.
I don't like that you used that one missed catch against the Packers as an example. Those over the head catches while looking back are hard. He lost the ball. It happens to everyone at some point.
I'm a diehard chargers daygo fan We all think his WR 5 or 6 Pam trees is wr 1 Ladd 2 DJ shark 3 rice 4 like you see what I'm going with this lmao we good my boy
@@onetakedayy- I don’t think one LB from the third tips the balance as much as Blake Corum in the run game. You mean to say all the LBs in 2023 didn’t get resigned?
@@matthewhuszarik4173 23 is hardly old. he couldve ran hard for his entire rookie contract, but maybe jim was just afraid of cutting or trading the guy. its a tough business. its almost like wanting to hire your friends but you're afraid of letting them and their families down.
@@FierceRex7567they have no city of their own and with that comes no respect! They should’ve stayed in SD where they belong or to a whole separate city (or state) other than LA
Quentin Johnson has got to perform this year because if he still sucks then the Chargers are going to be looking stupid for drafting him over Zay Flowers, Puka, Jordan Addison and Kincaid
This guy has undiagnosed ADHD, and from personal experience being diagnosed later on in life, the most frustrating part of it is knowing that you lost focus, why you lost focus, how not to lose focus, and then loosing focus. He'll be aight.
The fact that chargers fans are complaining about a 2nd year receiver not being this team changing WR out the bat is a little much. I understand that you guys seen Puka, Zay Flowers, Jordan Addison, Jamarr Chase, Justin Jefferson, you know young WRs start to shine and be good players immediately as of recently In the past few years or so and expect that same type of production from the guy you drafted in QJ but every player does not develop the same. This is the NFL ladies and gentlemen. It takes time to be great or even just good enough. A catch is a catch, and you guys complain about a catch to his body when if he made that same catch in a playoff game for a game winning TD, you wouldn't even care how he caught it or his mechanics in that moment and that what makes some people as fans so hypocritical. Let him breathe and give him room to improve.
