In one of the most exciting Final Chases of the Celebrity series thus far, see Mark "The Beast" Labbett at what is possibly his angriest in a Final Chase against a formidable team! (Celebrity Series 4 Episode 16 - 1st March 2015)
He got upset because he botched the round and got a few questions that he knew after a little thought wrong. It was less being a "sore loser" and more of a "Damn it, I KNOW I could've done better than that!" moment. Edit: To put in perspective, it's like getting a C on a test, but your teacher gave you a study guide the day before with the whole test on it, and you did look over it, but the answers didn't hit you at the right time.
+Comickid15 Yeah I agree. I think he's just very competitive and doesn't like to lose, especially when he's playing badly and making mistakes he know he shouldn't be.
+Comickid15 yeah it was more a "Damn I dropped the ball on that one. I had them and let them slip." Although tbf thjey did set him a good target. Anywhere around the 20 mark is always going to be tough for them to catch.
And the knowledge that if he had just answered two more correctly (and he did know the right answer to at least two that he flubbed), he would have caught them
@@skwidge69 He walked off on 26th January 2022 after losing the final chase as well. Apparently, his "mental health was shot" before the episode was recorded.
I watch the show quite often, but this is the first time I've seen the Beast defeated. His level of knowledge is absolutely astounding. In this case I think he failed through just bad luck. The contestants did get some easy questions, and he made some stupid mistakes.
He also got some easy questions. The team did extremely well, at 21 he'd have had to have done incredibly well to catch up. 3 answers may not seem like a lot, but that's a good 15 - 20 or so seconds (unless he answers them before they're finished being asked, which fair enough he was doing pretty well).
His reaction probably made them think it was super obvious because he got so annoyed and the most obvious answer for ‘what language is this word we all say from’ is English
The point is, Nate, that The Chase is a game that turns on fine margins. Ricky may have only answered one question, but that step he scored them plus the one head-start just for being there was the deciding difference between £24,000 and nothing. Ricky contributed 2 steps, the team won by 2. Even if the other players did everything else, it’s the fine margins that ultimately count. It’s the same thing with minus offer takers. Everyone slams them so hard but at the end of the day, they’re the one or two steps in the final that might make all the difference. I can recall 2 occasions off the top of my head where a player on the team took a minus offer, and the team ended up winning by 1. Had they not been there for the extra step, the team would’ve lost.
Poor beastie boy. He had a bad day. But he's only human. Oh and to those people saying he made stupid mistakes, he's a human being and besides I would like to see u people try to be a chaser who has to get 21 steps and be put under so much pressure. When ur under pressure like that sometimes you say the wrong answer, it happens. So u people can stop being rude and remember the fact that he's a human being not a computer so cut him some slack! I love u beastie boy and I know you do ur absolute best during every chase!
The Chasers are all very competitive between each other and always keep track of number of games won and lost. I think he was just frustrated because there's not always enough time to think through the questions so when he thought through the questions he got wrong, he was just thinking "ARGH, I SHOULD'VE GOT THAT." I think he's just the most competitive out of all of them - as you could see when he was walking off and hitting that wall.
The language from which we get Portfolio and the relationship between Zeus and Uranus were the questions he beat himself up over because he knew he knew the answer. Was just annoyed with himself and in reality he is a real nice guy. Great chase tho
I think one of the most frustrating things for quizzers is knowing the correct answer but saying something else because they're trying to answer quickly.
Mark had the cheek to say they had easy questions, but doesn't he realise that no matter what questions the contestants choose the chaser always has really easy questions every time.
Everyone shitting on Ricky just because he didn't do well in the final chase. He added two points to the total (one for entering the final chase, one for answering a question). Had he not been around, the team would've been caught just before time was up. Also he brought some humour to the table lmao (6:21)
I could have swore that he lost on purpose cuz of one of the quize writers that wrote that Italian question. I mean what a way to get the Beast angry and yet have him walk off beating himself up like he was a sore looser or something no i take back the sore looser part sorry XD.
The best episode of the chase was when that little Irish girl Elane, as a solo player, whipped the beast’s arse. He is not gracious in defeat! His comments at the start of his round about never having lost to a solo player were turned on him by the rightfully elated Elane. It was a pleasure watching her obvious pleasure of winning the cash, and greater pleasure of watching him eat his words. Well done girl!
To anyone calling Mark a sore loser, I would say to look at a few early episodes of The Chase USA, where Mark amping up the bad boy Beastie is par for the course. It will become very apparent that here, he is indeed playing up the role of The Beast. Slamming his fists on the board is something he's done more than once; he's playing the classic panto villain, in my view.
I remember this chase very well indeed.... Beastie boy got so worked up (or rather he really plays his pantomime villain so well this time) that he basically stormed off the stage in complete anger. I love Ricky's just standing there doing absolutely nothing in the final chase XD "fuck this I'm just gonna let the team carry me" Anyway, I better do one last thing. I'm noticing a commenter has been going around saying this wasn't an act. I'm here to give him a warning. If you say that on my comment section I will bring an AC130 to your house. Of course I'm joking but I'm fairly sure this is an act.
Could been an act, maybe they do tell him "if you get it wrong get angry" but to be fair some days the chasers just have bad luck and then instantly go "shit I knew that" after getting it wrong
I remember one time in America he had this really good player. Whenever they get to his head, he screws up, misses easy questions, his aggravation breeds more aggravation.
The way Mark felt during that episode, I often feel like that with my soccer team, haha. Anytime my coach tries to prevent me from saying nice things to the teams we play against (which is how I became friends with them thanks to my good sportsmanship) or my teammates say rude things to or about anyone and I fail to catch them for that, I just moan and groan and then storm off in anger hitting and kicking the fence so hard beating myself up, lol.
Wasn't there a video with The Beast walking off after losing to a single player for the first time? Her name was Elaine and I can't find the video on RU-vid anymore.
+Matt Filer he is not doing that he is trying to stop them winning the game as that it his job, anyway even when they do not win they still a get a prize for charity so he has not stopped the charity getting some money.
