Favorite one? I'm gonna have to go with that one where the guy A World of Difference. It just seemed really creative to me. It also reminded me of the season 1 finale of the Jordan Peele version of the show, which is definitely a good thing.

I enjoyed every single episode of Walter's series. His analysis was thorough, detailed, intelligent, and logical. This, by far and away, has been the best series on this channel in years.

I would’ve had Roger, after finding out she’s pregnant, have a last minute conscience, and switch the glasses while she’s not looking and the episode ending with a pre-drink toast from Roger like a final goodbye.

@@melissacooper4282 Unless ... the object of her obsession disappearing frees her from the potion's effects. Wow, that could be an episode: woman wakes up over the body of a man, wedding rings on their fingers, a positive pregnancy test, and the last thing she remembers is telling him to leave.

In the later episode "Jess-Belle", the roles are reversed as a woman uses a love spell on a man so at least TZ is an equal opportunity offender!

See, I actually really like this episode. Specifically, I like that the guy is 100% shown to be a terrible person. It would be one thing if he was shown like he was a good person, but the episode goes out of its way to depict him as a scumbag and a terrible person, whether it's other people hating him for taking up the phone or the woman clearly noting that she hates this guy. He clearly only wants her because she refuses him, and when he gets her he realizes he didn't have any love for her, merely lust, and now he's trapped. The baby part at the end traps him eternally, and thus is a karmic reward, though obviously the woman and child being trapped too is pretty awful. That said, that's also part of what makes him so awful too.

As I commented above the reviewer is dense. He didn't realize the Glove Cleaner was poison and totally missed the "morality tale" aspect of the story. Not too bright.

I expected the twist to be that George _kills Lila,_ then buries her thinking his problems are over but Lila returns as _a ghost_ and murders him (maybe saying something like "Remember _my little rabbit,_ I'm only doing this because I _love_ you. I love you _to death")_ and George's ghost is haunted by Lila's ghost for eternity.

Dark Route: Roger wants to poison his wife. Darker Route: Roger poisons his wife, and finds out afterward that she was pregnant. Darkest Route: Roger finds out that his wife is pregnant, then poisons her anyway.

If you listened to what Daemon was saying to Roger you realized that the "glove cleaner" was really a sophisticated poison! Meaning that had Roger succeeded the police wouldn't have found any trace of it during the autopsy. Roger would therefore be in the clear.

In Power Rangers, Rita Repulsa puts a love spell on Lord Zed and they marry. Later, when some minions try to break the spell, it has no effect as it turns out that Zed was actually in love with Rita.

I've read a comic story just like this episode, titled 'Loved To Death' by William Gaines from Tales From the Crypt #27. Everything is the same except for the character's names and the ending. The protagonist refused to pay for the poison and instead uses regular poison in his wife's tea in order to kill her. But the teas were switched because his wife knew he didn't like his tea hot, so he ends up drinking the poisoned tea instead and is happy to be dead upon realizing because he's now free of his wife. But then the wife comes up to him in the after life, revealing she killed herself after finding him dead. So now, for all eternity, they are together... much to his despair.

I believe that in both versions (The Twilight Zone and Tales From The Crypt) the love potion is permanent. That was why both Roger and Edward had to poison their wives. Had they succeeded then the effects would be gone because they're dead.

@@BWMagus It certainly was a thing in every time period, sure, but it’s only been rather recently that it’s getting analyzed and called out on a larger scale. Props to the Twilight Zone here for actually portraying the „nice guy“ as a bad person because that’s far from the standard. Even rather recent media like Strange Magic (aka George Lucas’ „Star Wars for girls“) still have the gall to portray the character getting the love potion to drug someone into falling in love with them as a good person without any hint of self-awareness about it. My favorite take on the trope is honestly the Rick&Morty episode where the love potion ends up causing the apocalypse.

@@rainpooper7088 It wasn't long after this that Star Trek had its own take on nice-guy-ism in "Charlie X". Charlie, raised by incorporeal aliens (and possessing powers not unlike TZ's own Anthony Fremont) with little idea of how to relate to humans, got a mad crush on the Enterprise's Yeoman Janice Rand from the get-go. Kirk tried to explain that Janice simply wasn't interested in him in that way, and Charlie said, in effect, "But I'm being really nice to her, why doesn't she want meeee?" And Jim told him, "Charlie, there are a million things in this universe you CAN have and a million things you CAN'T. It's no fun facing that, but it's the way things are." In other words: if the object of your crush isn't interested, persisting in it isn't going to make them interested no matter how "nice" you are, and it's best just to accept it and move on. Shame that Charlie couldn't get that through his skull...

This episode is cited by a mage/wizard-type character of mine when he explains why he refuses to sell love potions. I feel like the main character got his comeuppance. He was acting the same way that his love interest acts towards him after he gives her the potion. He came to know what it felt like. Unfortunately, he seemed not to become a better person, since he was willing to give his wife the "glove cleaner." I like to see slimy characters like that get what they deserve.

Daemon had seen this hundreds of times. A young man comes in, buys his love potion, then later comes back to buy the glove cleaner. Roger is no different from all the other young men who did business with Daemon before. Why do you think he stated other women's names and said the same thing as Roger at being the happiest man in the world?

I watch it regular. I love it. I think it is brilliantly acted and scripted. IMO it is a masterpiece of human psychology. I sort of understand alot of the criticisms I read here, but I think many people are not looking at it from a particular context: which is (a context I can surely relate to), a single guy during that "early" period of that particular culture (in this context it seems to hone in on exactly the fancies and fantasies of a single guy at that particular place in that particular culture). I think the back and forth between the lovestruck man and professor A Daemon is amazing.

I remember this episode being somewhat subpar as well when I was first working my way through the series. I was honestly hoping you'd find it better than I remembered and that I would thusly find a new appreciation for it, but unfortunately, it seems my original impression of the episode wasn't just me. Humorously enough, when I counted ahead to see where we'd land at the beginning I remember actually being like "ah crap", but it was nevertheless worth it for the Twilightober we got! Well, I think some of them are just 'bad' relative to the Twilight Zone at its best. But relative to most TV still not to shabby. Plus, considering the amount of episodes they made, the overall quality and heights achieved are quite impressive.

@@DavidTShaw I imagine they would eat but they would treat every meal like a romantic date. They would have trouble with finding work as they can't be apart from eachother so they'd need to find some way to make money or get food where they can stay together and raise the kids they'd have.

I'm surprised that not only should he have bought the love potion for Leila, but he should also have bought a love potion for himself. I got the idea from the ending of a Super Mario Brothers cartoon where Mario and his friends put love potion in Queen Rotonda's and Prince Pompador's drinks so that they would fall in love with each other.

McIntire's dialogue where he spouts off the types of potions, etc. resembles his son's dialogue at one point in Fast Walking spouting the different types of drugs he can sell in prison. What a talented family. Thanks for sharing.

I don't think this plot was a matter of not aging well; this was obviously written with Roger as an awful person by 60 years ago standards as well. I remember what scared me about this episode when I first watched it was the concept of an SO getting tired of my affections. In this case, the poor woman literally has no way of escaping him emotionally which makes it 10000 times more unfair to her.

The same story was done in one of the EC comics. The twist is, the guy accidentally takes the "antidote", and ends up dying. However, in the afterlife when he figures it's over, he finds that his wife poisoned herself, because she couldn't live without him, and now he's stuck with her for all eternity.

I’m sure that with all the great details that you put into Twilight Tober Zone, it WAS a ton of work. But it would be great if you could do it again next October, or even sooner. I looked forward to each episode and I really enjoyed them. I’ve already seen every episode but it’s always fun to review them and I appreciated your insight and new (to me anyway) info.
