In this bass fishing video I talk about chatterbait fishing for bass. The chatterbait aka the bladed jig has been a bait that has become one of my confidence baits. Spring bass fishing, summer bass fishing, winter bass fishing, and fall bass fishing I always have a chatterbait tied to catch big bass. In this video I break down the best trailers for chatterbaits, the best chatterbait fishing set up, and my favorite color chatterbaits. I share some of the chatterbait fishing tips that I have learned over the past two years of learning this bait. Do you guys like fishing a chatterbait? Do you have any tips on how to fish a chatterbait? Let me know in the comments down below!

I was skeptical of the jackhammer but I finally bought one just a week ago and oh boy is there a difference! It is insane what a difference it makes, it immediately starts vibrating even when you pop it out of grass. It just goes.

The jackhammer isn't necessary. If you take an original ChatterBait and flatten the blade it'll start vibrating immediately just like a jackhammer.

Dude, your humble opening earned you a like & your knowlege of the baits earned you a sub!! I'm an old dog Bass fisherman & I've never used a chatterbait but have been researching them. Seems I came to the right place!! With thousands of $$ in lures, I can't believe I'm considering ONE that cost so much! (I don't just buy ONE of anything!! Lol)

I saw my first Chatterbait in 2006 and started making them for myself. Originally made them out of cut down spinners and eventually moved to the Arky style heads a few years later. You are absolutely right, for the c'bait to truly effective the blade MUST be attached to the head. Split rings work, but just barely, many times you have to jerk them to get them started. You need a c'bait that starts first time, every time and the only way for that to happen is the blade to be attached to head.

You're right some guys refuse to use the Jackhammer because it's too "expensive". I just can't wrap my head around that. A guy spends a lot of money on rods, reels, boats, quality line etc. and then they cheap out on the most important part of the whole deal. I get mine from Discount Tackle for $13.50 or less, not that bad and their is a huge difference in the original chatterbait and the Jackhammer. I've caught some of my biggest bass of the year on it, multiple 6 and 7 lb. fish. It's like guys buying a top of the line rifle and scope and shooting Wal-Mart ammo through it because they don't want to spend a few extra bucks and get the good stuff. To each their own just saying the Jackhammer is worth the price!

The Chatterbait is not sending vibrations into the water. The blade is causing a lot of turbulence as it moves side to side which triggers a fishes lateral line.

I went fishing the other day and watched a fish swipe at my chatter 3 times and always right for the shinny part! Just like you have different spinnerbaits and crankbaits for different situations you need different bladed jigs. Bass don’t want the intensity of a Jackhammer every day. Some days the more subtle Baits like the Cricket will out produce. If 10 people fish the same spot with a Jackhammer you need a different vibration to catch them. Just like a ledge getting hammered by 6XDs all day you can come behind them with a quieter bait like a DT and start catching them again.

As always Brother...AWESOME friggin video! Love all that you do for us! One BIG tip I got from you a long time ago with the CB is putting the crawl type trailer on the hook sideways! I went with a partner and we fished ONLY with CB. He used the same type CB as me and the same color/type crawl as me, but he put it on horizontal and I put it on vertical. He caught a couple more than I did, but the size of what I caught compared to him....SON!!!! (Note to self: He still owes me that 12 pack!!!)

If you haven't tried them, the Hog Farmer spunk shads make an excellent trailer for vibrating jigs. 5.5, 4.5 and 3.5. The 4.5 on 1/2 or 3/8 oz or 3.5 on the new stealth chatters look really good.

You are correct in regards to the Jackhammer, I could not agree with you more. Until I fished the Jackhammer, I thought chatterbaits were a laughing stock. It has changed bass fishing. I have discovered in warmer weather(summertime) a "white" Jackhammer with a "white" Strike King Rage Craw giving it the action that the big girls want in warmer water. I do not have a bait/lure that I have more confidence in than that white jackhammer and "Rage Craw (Pearl or white)."

Got my first Jackhammer and gave it go Sunday. Got a couple little pickerel right off the bat and then a 18.75” bass. I had some success with Project Zs and couple years ago but still haven’t quite figured out how I should be working lure through water. Just burn it or try to let it bump bottom and structure? Throwing it on my only 6.4 or something an older Lews Laser RZ combo with copolymer seems to skip up out of water as it gets closer to kayak on retrieve. Any advice?

I think it’s all dependent on what the fish are wanting. I’ve found a straight retrieve with some pops of the rod tip thrown in works a majority of the time. I’ve seen times when the fish want it stroked off the bottom, drug around. It’s so variable.

So when you locate fish how are you determining what depth to fish the bladed jig at? I am always concerned I am fishing it too high or not low enough.

the blade on the shock blade comes painted when you order it from Tackle Warehouse they ask you blade color

So is this going to be a biweekly thing? I hope your getting paid to waste this much time.

Can you give more on the how (is it just a straight retrieve, can you jig it) and where aspect of using it? I got the which one, which combo, which trailer, connection, etc... but when/where do I throw it?

That’s all dependent on how your lake and fish are setting up.
