People might find drag boring, but back at the end of Feb or begining of March someone walked away from a no prep race in Las Vegas with $20,000 for toy car drag racing. I think they are a vehicle that would be more fun if your friends had a couple.
@@mbfishing3807 it was per say but with all the other sponsor money paid out to the winner in the end it was over 20k, I wanna say 21k or near that.. 🏁🤙🏽💯
At first I was sceptical about how much "fun" you would get. Now, with the SkyRc I can see quite a bit of fun trying to get your speeds/records, tinkering etc. If you don't have any tracking, just going in straight lines ain't my thing 🤣. Still, overall I'd certainly give it a thumbs up
I like how the front looks like a cross between a 69 roadrunner and a 70 challenger and the rear screams 70-72 montie Carlo. Need a bead to head with a drag slash build
@@TomleyRC true I do wonder how close the drag slash will be to there how to build a drag slash video. I hope they do something like the funny car electronics
just this minute picked up an associated tc6 with a massive case of spares, 4 batteries, 3 sets of wheels, spare motor and two shells for 50 quid ... shes a runner too!!! well impressed
I need a runway. Here in Florida we have straight roads but mad camber for the tropical rains. I sneak onto the local RC aircraft runway now and again but its too short for full blooded speed runs
Recently, as in two days ago, my wife has noticed how much joy I've gotten from the hobby and watching RC videos and said she thinks I should continue the hobby. She has no idea how expensive this hobby can get...LOL But I suppose its true " he who findeth a wife findeth a good thing"!
Great video I build a slash drag car last year love it, one thing with these rtr drag car that are available they have stability but in no prep rc your not allowed to use it, all about the fine tuning.👍
The more of these I watch the more I want one. Looks addictive kinda like crawling I was hooked from the first few videos I watched. Then after I got one forget it totally hooked. I crawl every day now on my backyard course. Anyways great video buddy.
I had got the green one as it was almost the last one in AUSTRALIA when I did. Then ordered the recommended REEDY POWER 2S and 3S batteries and CHARGER for it and as for the 3900kv motor that can be used on 2S is no longer being made or in stock. I had just got my SKYRC GNSS SPEED METER GSM-015 and tried them out with it and got 40kmh on 2S then 60kmh on 3S. The WLTOYS A969B and the A979B are just 1kmh faster at 61kmh. I do not race and just have fun with it and as for what class it would be in it is OUTLAW ALL THE WAY. I put my GOPRO HERO 7 BLACK on the inside looking through the windscreen and it looks great but have to block out the steering next time with something like a dash board to hide it. The steering adjustments are so touchy and extremely fine to get right.
The stickers are probably not cut because they are double filmed. Paper on the back and removable clear film on top. If you do apply them they should look good
Looks awesome need to get it dialled in and practice those starts to keep it in the lines but looks like there is a lot of fun to be had driving and set ups
You did yourself right by getting one of these Gov!!👍💯 She's a bloody keeper, hello, hello mine's on the way!!!! & Yeah I'd keep that body clean status.
Which is better the Associated DR10 or the Losi 22s? Saw a sale recently the DR10 RTR for $199 and a Losi 22s RTR for $259. Which should I get or should I get both at these prices?
Build one. You got Serpents and Mardaves and F1 cars. No Prep is just one in a bunch of classes. LOL actually isn't kind of what the fastest D chassis WPL truck is going to be? Break is over. Worlds 1st no prep ground keepers truck ;)
Just kicking back watching ole tomley. Finally got one of these cuz I couldn't pass the $199 sale price. Haven't ran it yet but I must say it's very lightweight and seems to be built very well.
Been looking for muscle car as I was 17 yrs. old when Dodge Demons /Dusters and chevy ruled. It's why I decided on this. It's definitely borrowed from Dodge Mopar. Can't wait to get it. Bought lime green. 💪👍
I got one of these kits today for 80$ it didnt include the body but has the chassis and gears and tires... supply my own motor speed controller battery and so on. But im excited to build it
Not surprised if that would be the price. Traxxas is reasonably expensive. Their parts are everywhere and cheap tho. And they got good customer care 👌. Still I wouldn't buy 😂
O just ordered the Kit !! On Amazon prime day today.. My first drag car …. I was looking for a power plant for it .. there’s a lot out there now no prep drag race
Great to see "propper speed" cars none of your speed runs rubbish...lol. great review. I just wish we all had access to a runway. The loss is not available in the UK as Horizon won't import to us from Europe.
I know in real drag racing you can tweak your wheelie bar to help compensate for torque steer on launch as well. After all it is what steers the car when the front wheels aren't
someday.. I'll break out the scratch built 1/12 dragster for a run video. its chassis is from carbon fiber arrow blanks, black epoxy-glass plate stock, "welded" together with sewing thread and CA glue. motor pod is typical on road pan car type with pinion ahead of the spur gear, old school foam rubber tires, simple really. weighs very little, 3650 size 5000kv brushless for power, about 3.8:1 ratio, 8.2" rollout. trick is having tall enough gear it launches without losing it then nailing it at 8-10 foot to let it power through. gotta pick up a programming card for the ESC to play with it more. the intent is for 2S 2200mah size only, to keep the power/weight ratio up.
@@TomleyRC you can do a lot with that building method and carbon fiber rod+tubing, just shape parts to fit, scuff them up, CA together then start lashing with thread and CA every direction possible. with tubing you can drill in, angle them over for rod stock to fit in or through for extra strength. motor pod was 5 bucks, steering blocks+spindles and king pins were about 12 bucks (RJspeed). project started with just the body then build the rail chassis to fit under it.. haha.. I need to make a video durnit.
so they installed a gyro that needs manual gains adjusting??? that would be great since most drivers will not want to change settings once they are happy with the way car handles...
@@WheelsRC i have no idea, but Phil seems to know a bit. I would suggest a scale 1/4 mile, with outside curbs. We could build a drag race tree, and put in a timing setup....
Great video TOMLEY. Got one a few months ago They are great fun bit it is addictive. (the wheels will rub the paint off. ) Also looking at the Losi. We need no prep drag racing in the uk. US rules they run on 2s.
@@TomleyRC it can get a bit coggy on start if you aren’t careful, get a few different teeth spurs too and join the many US forums like RC no prep junkies, dr10 groups etc, love mine but only racing the gnss currently!
Love this rc car. Why are they $559 in Australia? I've looked everywhere in Australia and they are all between $550 - $600. Where can i buy one for the same price as you can?
@@TomleyRC yeah maybe, you should try anyway :) if it fails go back to stock again :) . The Smooth Gear Mesh is awsome. If you are lucky maybe it feels ans sounds same with more KV too maybe ? Only way found out is try another Motor :) So what Pitch this car got ? 48 ? Im 100% shure it is not MOD1 they sound horrible LOL
ssssh, have you been looking on my table in the corner of the livingroom again?..... They have been built before but I hear they are impossible to keep stable
That's the challenge, probably lairy handling on 1S! I like scale and it would probably be a longer 132foot run and more involved drive, could start from a stock (over weight underpowered) 16seconds run and modify to try for sub10. Hard bodies, true 1:10, line lock etc. It's why the crawlers appealed and I'm back in the hobby.
@@simontromans2748 The challenge of a scale suspension geometry and making it work is something crawlers have achieved. And I understand leafsprung truck chassis are not very popular. But its awesome these componets were created in 1/10th scale. If you look at 50s and 60s drag cars you will see alot of 6 lug rearends out of pickup trucks. And Gassers used beam front axels out of 2wd trucks and vans. All this stuff is available. Can you imagine 1960s stock cars road racing cars running leafsprung or three link coil sprung rear suspension and IFS? I have really wondered where the manufacterers have been on this. The consumer drives what products are going to be available. And its a mix of R/Cer's who know very little about the nuts and bolts of how real cars work and people who aren't into the scale aspect of the hobby as much so it doesn't bother them that the model isn't that scale. Nothing wrong with that it should be fun first. I fall somewhere in the middle of that. But I do like a challenge, and hearing that scale geometry suspension cars could never be competitive in no prep, oval or road course. Let's find out! I enjoy trying. So yeah I have a flat frame crawler chassis slowly becoming a drag car. I know other people are developing these cars but they are elusive to my internet searches
@@mikeupton5406 I have seen an axial scx-10 do 70mph on 2s with full lockers. We cried when he hit that curb! We ran mod 1 gears 😆 we had the overdrive ring and pinion in the rear. We ran AKAs that were saused out.
So as I'm an old school rc guy what exactly is no prep drag racing? I get the idea of scale drag racing and could see how the challenge of getting the best out of your setup could be quite addictive. But surely people will be working on these things for many many hours before they would take it to a race.
Trying to decide which drag car to get. Last summer it was a real big thing around here and Associated has a special for $170 for a RTR kit, which is a great deal. They have a kit for $100 and I have electronics already, but an extra set of electrics for $70 is not a bad deal.
To get the best launch. Drag cars run 90/10 shocks. 90 percent compression. 10 percent lift. For weight transfer. Best you can do. Is put super lightweight shock oil up front. Everything else I believe you already know.
Dammit Phil, now i want one of these as well.... Though it would be good if Lenny could build a 2 lane dragstrip at the BERCC.... Next trend RC Burnout cars.... Was thinking about this the other night.......
bad ass! that's all i gotta say. looks awesome! wonder how long the plastic wheelie bar wheels will last overtime and if they'll come out with rubber tires as an upgrade. thanks for the video! cheers.
@@TomleyRC for sure. maybe RPM, HotRacing, etc will come out with a custom one in the future since it's still newer on the market. cheers. thanks for the reply.
Tomley off topic.. But luvit that ur shoes r alwayz on point buddy.. Never drag raced😱.. Its fun though u can get the tree and trapz make it really fun.. Thnx again buddy
I have a small obsession with trainers. Glad you appreciate them.... yeah, Drag racing needs to be with a few people and trees etc to get the most from it 🤘
Modified they can do 50-60mph. But remember they are mostly raced in public parking lots. So most rules limit you to 2s. And stock gearing. As not to hurt people.
Love this type of car takes me back to when I used to work at santa pod , I"m abit dissapointed with the top end speed compered to the Losi camaro ,but i'm sure a diferent kv motor would sort that out , ive promised myself one if no holliday abroad
@@TomleyRC defo gonna get the losi when it gets to blighty , watched some of the masive American winner take all big money events awesome , I think 7000 KV may be a bit high for the esc 5000 would be a nice mix of speed and torque and give the esc and motor an easier time , stick some paddles on and beach or dirt runs that would be cool
Hi Phil, any chance you could slow the movement of the camera when you hold it and move it with yer hands 🙌, it makes me eyes 👀 go all funny as i keep trying to focus and refocus lol 😂 me eyes are pretty old and not as good as they were. You should also get the losi, it looks and goes really good out of the box, not as fussy as the Associated. Awesome video Phil, really sweet.
@@TomleyRC Glad you told me that. I thought it had something to do with the vehicle. I just thought of a horrible idea. Starting a RC roll racing league with 2 person teams where one drives a full size follow vehicle and the passenger races the RC
I can hear that electric motor making big block V8 tones. Nice, but it could get boring quickly unless you like chasing numbers or have friends to compete with.
What’s the run time on this I bought my son the armor graphite truck and only get Mayb 10 mins of run time even up graded the battery and that only got him a few more mins!
