Glad I found this carnverstion. I own a 1999 w202 C180, had it close to a decade. I was initially searching for a specific station wagon but after a chat with the dealer he suggested I take a look at a personal car he was reluctantly selling... I was stunned - It was in mint condition body, interior & engine. It's easy maintenance - just watch the oil/water levels, good tires & service periodically and there you have an immortal car. I have owned & driven other brands in the past, but my Merc w202 is the one I won't let go. On the freeway it stabilizes the faster I go, handling corners smoothly while the engine temperature actually goes down. I've heard talk that it was built to run 1 million miles. Top Gear called it the Indestructible car!
Finally finally. After asking for this for so long - re-driven imeweza. The W202 is a true gem, and in my opinion comes second to the W124. The M111 engine is bulletproof. I can bet you most of the cars you’ll drive on re-driven from the 90s will be German. I look forward to your review of the W124, W126 from the Benzes, and the bimmer e30, e34 and e36. Keep doing what you do.
“Kenyans ni akina nani, wananunuanga number plate.” The accuracy in that statement .I wish people overlooked numberplates to be honest. People are missing out
Thanks @Erick for this video....i guess after watching your video for almost 10 times...i had to make up my mind and get one from someone right away ..its 1996 model but its so fantastic...#This is Brian from Uganda 🇺🇬...thanks for opening my eyes
w124 has and will always have a place in my heart I'd have gone for the AMG hammer but chances are I'll never get my hands on it, awesome review old chap.
I love my W202. Easy to work on if you can get parts for a reasonable price, and enough repair documentation. Critical requirements: workshop diagrams and Diagnostic Tools.
The handling aspects of this car are also superb thanks to its rear independent suspension and double wishbone suspension in the front. It is very composed even when doing 140km/h + on the highway.
The '90s were a glorious time for cars. And that M111, together with the M113 V8, were legendary engines. The Germans really outdid themselves with these engines when it came to reliability.
I had 6 of them so far! They are absolutely bulletproof. Never had any serious problems. Unfortunately the rust is a big big problem. But in Africa they don’t rust that bad anymore so they will drive there forever. My old W202 is now in Niger Africa. So if you know some people there let me know :)
I'm so happy after watching this episode. Just yesterday my friend told me she's saving up to buy a car for the first time and I advised her to get a c180. Thank you canversation
Great show guys! However, the W202 is a Modern Classic and other that the W116, W124 and W126 that you have promised to feature, I think you should also consider featuring the pre-1971 Mercedes Benz Classics e.g., W113, W111, W108 and also a post 1971 classic, the W107. There are a number of all those models right here in Nairobi! As a classic Mercedes Benz fan, I am very happy that a Kenyan TV car show is looking seriously at "Das Beste oder Nichts", "The Best Or Nothing". Hongera!
Mimi kama proud owner of a w201 I feel I should mention it was the first compact executive sedan from Mercedes Benz. It's dubbed the Baby Benz and is the forefather of the C-class.(only that it wasn't labelled C class at that time).
@@elvisamario160 it was produced from 1983 till 1993. Look for one that doesn't have rust problems, be ready to do some of the maintenance yourself, very easy to repair vehicles or set aside money for it. or the honeymoon may end very fast. parts are available locally or can be imported easily
The most unspoken and underated Benz is the w210. The car is a tank and it can never compare to the W124...they are worlds apart. To me the w210 is legendary and has no challenger. I have had a w124, an E190, three w202 and a w210 E230 111engine '97 model which I keep to date. Benz fanatics always stop to ask if it's for sale. I don't know what happened to most of them coz it's difficult to find clean ones but rest assured the w210 is quickly becoming a classic car and it's value is raising. Interestingly it's fuel friendly and can be used as a daily driver...this is despite the fact that it qualifies as a weekend car coz of it's age. That's how reliable they are. Driving from Nairobi to Mombasa in my w210 is like a dream, very fast, the best brakes ..it eats hills and corners like yams. Prado and V8 guys can't give a chase.. all they do is grin as I overtake them at 160kph. Kindly cover it in One of your next episodes.
I have always admired the W202,its a classy car and very reliable.it has a bullet proof engine that i have always said and i will say its M111 will do a clean 1million miles before it u do an overhaul to the engine.other are W123 which came with M102 and M115. W124 its another one with the same Dna. So Eric those 3models are very durable car.
M111's are prone to head gasket failure and they start leaking at the back before they completely fail. They are only reliable when they are rust free and gasket failures are sorted. Never buy one in humid areas.
I own 2 w124’s and a w202. The cars are both great but you get more car for your money with the w202! Good w124’s are expensive now while a good w202 can be bought for a very reasonable price. Early w202’s suffer much less rust problems than later ones.
I've got a w202 180 elegance I inherited from my grandfather. she got it new so I know the full history or it , I remember been in the back seat when I was a little kid. A little trick I learnt is if you hold the unlock button for several seconds all the windows go down haft way 😄
i restored a 1995 c200 w202 back in 2016 manual petrolium enginge, the year i turned 19, and i still drive him! such a reliable car minimal prolem, the only part that broke that was a pain was the Ignition module due to it being an old computing part, but everything else is so easy to come by!
Bro the „W“ stays for Winter, in Germany ist makes sense because the streets here are very icy if the tmeperatures are lower (in Winter) so if you put the transmission on W the car starts to roll in second gear and has less torque. So you have better traction on slippery roads. Sorry for the bad english
I love my 2000 202 as much as my 1971 Stingray convertible was. It is fun as my W 126 is my favorite car of all time! Thank GOD FOR BOTH OF THEM! Supercharged! 😄
Sasa with this re-driven segment, I personally don't mind mkitoa episode daily coz there are some beautiful beautiful beautiful cars out there that are under rated by many but are extra ordinary cars. Looking forward to that w124 review. And also The bimmers that were bullet proof. the e30, e36. Na kuna kagari nataka utafutane nako sana, very very very rare, not German. Its a toyo actually but this was the hot hatch that made headlines in its time and its the Toyota starlet EP71 Turbo S. In other news nilienda pale Amex a few days ago na nikasema nimetumwa na Erick with a CK, nilipata discount ingine safi sana. Big up.
Yes indeed a great w202;small and good comfortable with good fuel average,,, even better then w124 it's the best car ever made specially 99 model ,, and 96 model
Niliskia your background music on TV nikashtuka, kumbe ni copyright free tune .. Hahah. We need to make a unique one specifically for Carnversations. How would you like it to sound? I'll do it for free
Thanks for the wonder review. I own alot of of MB, including my w202 1995 manual petrol 5 speed. I have been with it for the last 20years. That m111 is a motor works, can live forever with basic maintainable. It's one of the best engines ever built in W202, w203, w163(ml230), vito, gwagon, w210, w211, clk, etc list endless. Thanks for the review.
@Erick with a CK. I've driven premios from 2006 models and currently a 2013 model, and on all of them I could open the boot from the key fob. Am tackling your vibe on minute 12:28 on the video. Kudos for the good work ua doing
Excellent review... My friend brother in law was selling W200 back in 2014 I didn't know much about it and it was my first time to enter into that Merc! Honestly speaking if I had cash then, I would have bought it on the spot without bargaining. The interior was something else we went for the test drive. I was Sold...Sold kabisaaaa 💯🙌✨😀👏👏
Point of correction, that boot button near the gear lever is not for opening the boot. It's just there to show u if your boot is opened or closed. Its has a red light when open
This was my dream car when it came out I was like 6 years old uncle owned one brand new & 16:43 there is literally no car in production after September 1, 1998 that doesn’t come with an air bag it was made mandatory…. apo umetu cheat 😆
Excellent review🎈🎈🎈👏🏿👏🏿. You really are growing as a channel. I'm 14 and I watch your videos..the way mliingia kwa gari mkaongea was very authentic. Fiti Tena sana
I'm from Germany and also have a W202. Did I understand correctly that you pay 15,000 Kenyan shillings for this car? That's 120 euros. In Germany you pay 1,500 euros for this, that is 187,000 Kenyan shillings. Crazy what the price difference is. Thanks for the great video.
My favourite is the W123 series. I drove the 200D. Fantastic feel. Not fast, but bullet proof. The steering is out of this world. Solid as a rock and very reliable.
Bro umenimaliza na apo pa kupiga drink na kuangalia parking lot lolest...!! Ows a very informative channel,n btw u wr busy gvng thinly veiled comparisons bt aukutaja vitz na mi upeleka vitz 990cc.
