I will repeat my request from your previous "Cheapest" video. Rerecord your intro song using all your cheapest gear plus a free drum pack. Document the process and post the results. Please?
I actually bought one for my nephew....i find myself playing some pretty nasty riffs on it. I think it is hands down best bang for the buck(with proper amplification)
Depends where you are as a player. If you want a guitar with some kind of tune o matic bridge, you don't really need to spend a lot of money on a guitar. I have some decent priced instruments, and right now, my go-to guitar is an epiphone dot. It's the most dependable guitar I have and sounds great (I oiled the nut and saddles and set it up well). Depending on your demands as a player or if you want a reliable tremolo system, you then consider spending more. Quality control and detail is another thing too.
Is there any way to get a futura shape? I know full well that most shovel guitars play better than the epiphone in the video but I love the futura shape compared to explorers
@@Nhf1185 not that I'm aware of, bit if you're looking for something that's a bit more metal, ibanez do a guitar called the destroyer! Its an awesome guitar I had one!
@@smashingairguitars Thanks for the chuckle. Everybody keeps telling me that. I only have an Ibanez acoustic and a Yamaha bass, so I haven't had the displeasure of a Gibson headstock failure yet. Had the pegbox fall off my cheap lute, though... that was unpleasant, but those are at a 80-90% angle so it's not surprising either on the cheap ones.
I actually purchased the silver burst finish of this and while there are a couple things I would change that are personal preference but overall I love this guitar. Definitely worth what you pay and then some
@Jipke I had a Les Paul standard and sold it on in less than a month, I also worked in a guitar shop that stocked a high amount of Gibson am saw first hand how shitty the QC was. 1 in 4 had to be fixed or sent back so wind your neck in mate 😂
My first guitar was epiphone Les Paul in 2017. You can’t argue how well made these modern epiphones are. It played great and sounded great. It motivated me to play a lot more and eventually led me to my Gibson 335 and 59 Les Paul reissue.
So you want to start out playing guitar. Here is a tip. Just go to RU-vid, and start watching the videos made by Fluff. You'll find verry usefull advice. Dig in, young dude (wearing a beanie).
I was shocked seeing an epiphone in this kit for less than $200. Especially with a rosewood fretboard! I wish i had seen this when I was starting guitar
@@Trojanarchist I just got an old ibanez with a broken bridge and bad electronics i learned on acoustically, on an electric guitar. If I had known this i wouldve begged my parents to buy me this!
The quality control, I've heard, has been frighteningly similar between these cheap guitars and Gibsons. Apparently, things are supposed to be turning around with them soon. We can only hope.
I like that they call it a Starter Pack not Beginner. It seems good. They didn't have these when I started 20 years ago. I'm interested because you had nothing bad to say about it 😁
I've played guitar for like 15+ years (don't remember exactly) and I still have my starter pack Squier Showmaster as one of my main guitars. I changed pickups to a Duncan Distortion in bridge and two GFS Hotrails single coil size humbuckers in the S positions. And some Sperzel tuners on it. Tuned to C standard or Drop B most of the time. I really love it!
Beepbeep Lettuce You changed my perception of the guitar. Needs different colors for more Reverend Gibbons (and 7s!) style. And a pearly gates humbucker. But it’s kind of a neat idea now.
I have the lp Jr pro one from the same line and after a set up and a bit of fretwork it's one of the best guitars I own. That stock pick up is not bad.
$159 on AMS black, white or silver burst... that’s cool.. who needs a rhythm pickup, right? It’s rock n roll.. I’d try it, I’m sure she would shine way better after a trip to a local guitar tech.. it’s amazing the stuff coming about of Asia for a hundred bucks these days.
I'm normally not a big gibson/epiphone fan but my sister has the entry slash les paul and it actually plays quite well for a beginner guitar, way better than my first guitar!
Funny story... I just came across this video in my recommended and I clicked it because that was literally my first guitar. The exact one. Got it early 2017 and it came with my Rocksmith Cable that I still have and use. It's been loyal to me for a while and it's take quite the beating from my old chaotic household. Still have it and it holds a special place in my heart as my first guitar that got me started with what I do daily now.
I've got four different tickets open with their sister company zZounds.com right now. Same payment plans, same inventory, same everything. Just good people all around, especially their phone help.
I own this guitar, i wanted an explorer back when i first started playing guitar cause they looked cool, Over 5 years later this guitar is still goated as hell, definitely buy this if your looking to pick up guitar
As a 25-year player, I recently bought a Fender Squire Strat pack with the starter amp included. For the price (approx $350... I think...) it was a pretty nice kit. WELL-worth the price, IMO!
I bought my first guitar starter pack for under $100 and it is called Rise by Sawtooth. Full length scale, picks, 5 watt amp, gig bag, tuner, cable, and strap
Brings me back to that first act discovery guitar i got from toys r us in kindergarten. Im now 16 and i have turned that old beat up red electric guitar into a cool blue sunburst guitar with new pickups and everything, its been a ride haha
I've only ever bought guitars from AMS and I probably always will, in no small part because of their super reasonable payment plans on stuff I probably never would have gotten otherwise. Cannot recommend them enough. (Not sponsored by AMS but totally should be if anyone's reading this.)
These cheap guitars are awesome for learning maintenance, hot rodding, etc. I'm in the process of overhauling one of the cheapo maestro by Gibson starter guitars (a flat top les paul shape). It's quite a bit rougher than this explorer starter guitar (at least that's how I received it from a friend). I did a killer military themed ultra flat olive paint job with orange and white stenciling (best guitar paint job I've done). I also switched out the single humbucker for another cheap rail humbucker (mostly for the look) and switched out the pots for a single on/off toggle switch for fun... hahahaha. The set up is another story. I bought one of the adjustable wrap around bridges, because it came with a pre 1954 style wrap around bridge. That way I can adjust intonation. When I get time, I'm going to switch out the bridge, start adjusting the truss rod, etc. I hope I can get it playing well.
Uppgrade the nut and tuners (and maybe the pickup) on almost any beginner guitar from the last couple of years and it will last you forever! Just don't expect it to hold up to your main axe and you're all good
I would have loved it if you to the 9V amp, mic'd it up, and actually tried your best to get it to sound nice in a mix and then compare that with a mix with the AXE-FX III. To show that money isn't everything and if you're creative enough, you can achieve GREAT results with the cheapest of gear by using software, plugins, and a little EQ!
When he plugged the lil amp, i was shocked by how interesting the tone was. It was like a good fuzz tone. For someone who cant set up a fuzz to save my life, it was quite interesting.
This video shows how much a good amp matters. That epiphone sounds way better than my $550 seymourduncan louded guitar because I only have an old cheap practice amp
www.zzounds.com/item--BOSKTN50?siid=189845 Six payments of around $40, no interest, free shipping, 45 day returns and they provide the shipping label. You also won't do better for an amp for less than double the money. This amp will go down in history as the greatest "budget" hardware of all time.
My first guitar was the Lyx Pro Starter pack, I got it “refurbished” (idk if that’s really something you do with guitars but whatever) instead of brand new on Amazon and got the whole kit for $80, and it’s actually really nice.
I paid about the same for my Silvertone pack. It's a damn good guitar built by Samick. So good, in fact, that I bought a 2nd, different model for $24 on auction. So now I have one to keep SSS and compare against my modded guitar(s) and one to modify. I would've just modified my 1st guitar but it uses a Silvertone specific pickguard that's NLA. So instead of ruining the 1 pg I had and being unable to ever go back to SSS, I just bought a 2nd guitar to mod.
I really wish when i started learning guitar like 17yrs ago there were starter packs this decent at that price. I was really surprised by how well it seems to play, and sounding decent even with the 9v practice amp.
In looking at the specs for the guitar I was surprised that they have better tuners on it than they do on the similarly priced LP Jr pack and even the more expensive LP Special II pack.
Wow this looks like amazing value for money. Bundling it with Rocksmith is genius, there is so much useful practise stuff in that program let alone the huge library of songs. If was in the market for a cheap guitar I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
That starter pack Epiphone is a killer guitar for what it is. I’ve played one myself and I honestly want one. I loved the way it played and that cheap pickup has a decent tone to it. Great review!
You should do a modding video where you make it a pro-level beast. Throw in some hipshot hardware, maybe a Lace or Fishman with a push/ pull toggle etc. Be great for a video and maybe either a give-away or just something to screw around with.
I can see it now.. Epiphone Explorer FluFF Signature!! .... I personally have had some dang nice playing Epiphone's .... Kinda dig the typical V type headstock, though I prefer the hockey stick
Oh man, I remember flipping through that catalog back in the day. Had a whole list of stuff circled that I was going to buy from it. Unfortunately, I decided to move out of my parents house and blow whatever excess cash I had on partying. If you guys happen to run across younger me, can you please kick him in the scrote?
Try a Peavey Mantis, Rockmaster or the other one I cant remember at the moment. Small bodied shredders that at first glance, look almost like toys. They are not. They have a longer scale length than gibson and are made in the USA.
