Two months into leasing a 1958 and I am very happy with it. I've always wanted a LC but the previous generation was way too expensive. I know it's a Prado, however I love the way it looks, it's super smooth and quiet, and the mileage is the same as I'm getting with my 2013 Rav4 with the same commute. I'm also okay with the cost, as if you're really looking at what things cost, there are plenty of SUVs that get up near 60k that I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Plus, it's completely made in Japan (and I really love the cloth seats). Just one guy's opinion as a long-time Toyota customer.

The price is outrageous. It's a 45k vehicle max. The horrible ride, poor quality, limited interior space and awful ground clearance are all hallmark features the TNGA-F platform. They are breaking sales records on legacy products, not these. It's because they still make cars and fuel efficient vehicles, something other brands abandoned.

Love my LC mid trim with the premium package after 2 months of ownership. Paid MSRP and no regrets whatsoever. Sufficient power, getting 23mpg overall. simple and functional interior with physical buttons which I prefer over the GX interior. Worth every penny. The GX is awesome but with 20-30% worse fuel economy, 20-30% higher insurance premiums and 20-30% more expensive service/maintenance, the overall ownership cost still heavily favors the Land Cruiser. Keep in mind the GX overtrail and overtrail+ are the closest comps to the Land Cruiser and the overtrail starts at 69k with less features than the Land Cruiser mid trim premium at 67k.

I grew up idolizing the old LCs, and I'd love to own one of the new ones, but at that price there's the GX 550 as you say. Great video pointing out the differences between the two and the comparable costs. Also commenting to please the gods of the algorithm!

No. The 1958 is the model to get. The GX550 is a LOT more money. And what people are missing here is the 350 extra KG the Landcruiser has. There is a lot of differences from the Forerunner Hybrid. Steel drive shafts instead of aluminium and a lot of other small items that add up to a much stronger machine.
@Realistick
@Realistick 4 дня назад
@@charliemcawesome5012 The 1958 does undercut the GX nicely and I think there is a niche market for it, but it also feels incredibly cheap in comparison. I'd feel like I was lying to folks if I recommended it to more than a small subset of Toyota fans. Also, the new 4Runner weight hasn't been specified yet but the previous Limited 4wd is about 90 kg lighter than the hybrid LC.

@Vanuatoo
@Vanuatoo 6 дней назад
In Europe we don't have 4runner, so it's easy to select either a Land Cruiser Prado or Lexus GX. Base Prado is around 48K USD with 2.7l naturally aspirated petrol, steel rims, plastic all around. And you can get 2.8 Turbo Diesel from previous generation. But with 4Runner being the most popular in US, Land Cruiser (Prado) seems really redundant and out of place, especially with its starting price. Let's be honest, very few will buy Lexus GX for the off-road use and who really want off-road should prefer 4Runner for it's lower base price and configurability options. So this leads to a question: who's going to buy Land Cruiser?
@c.huynh32

Nice looking vehicle! Needs the Toyota legendary 3.5L V6 or 4.0L V6 or the 5.7L V8 without hybrid system! Maybe as a second option for who wants a hybrid! $72k here in Ontario, Canada for the cheapest "Base Model" 1958 ... Highest is the "First Edition" trim at $102k (MSRP) Nice vehicle and everything ... No V6 or V8 which really kills the deal! With that price tag, I personally would just look/shop for the Lexus version
@genzigzag

Price isn't the issue, the powertrain has no benefit in this platform, Toyota should have used a version of the 2.4 Turbo, tuned for more torque. The hybrid battery pack adds weight and comprises the cargo space.
@Realistick

Id agree that the hybrid is a little underwhelming, I honestly think id prefer the regular 2.4 turbo and a lower price or full insanity with the 3.4 turbo from the GX!
@dcl97
@dcl97 4 дня назад
What isn't being talked about with these hybrids is that they are using old Nickel Metal Hydride packs, not the lithium ones being used in the Prius and almost every other modern hybrid. Their lifespan is only 80k-120k miles which means you're looking at a guaranteed $4000 maintenance item every 5-10 years. They will never be worth the minimal fuel savings they offer.

The LC250 isn’t for everyone. There is always the new 4Runners if price is too much for folks. I don’t mind the price and I think the LC250 is better built than the new 4Runner as it actually has durable bump stops made for off-roading, no gimmicky trim levels, no cumbersome isodynamic seats, overpriced Bluetooth speaker and laptop screen infotainment display and gives you everything in the 1958 for off-roading.

Love mine so far but I agree it is not a good price point and doesn’t make sense for most people. I just really liked the styling and the retro cloth seats lol. The LC is a little torque monster too. Surprisingly quick and at 21mpg avg so far over the first 2000 miles it’s way better than my old 4runner was in every way. I think when people are financing the majority of a vehicles price, a few thousand dollars isn’t going to make much of a difference or be a dealbreaker if they really want something and the land cruiser nameplate and styling is definitely cooler than the new 4runner in my opinion

Feel free to disagree with me on the LC but I'm a big Toyota truck fan. It's been over $50k since the turn of the century. For longer than I can remember, It was priced more like a luxury SUV and it placed an emphasis on quality to justify it. My beef with this new one is that the 4Runner and GX make much stronger arguments for themselves due to the price of the new LC.

No roll down window, cheaped out with the rear window wiper just hanging there instead of tucked under a cover, cloth manual seats, cheap plastics, thinner glass and metal and paint, cheaped out on the head unit, and the bad engineering with the battery location/size. I'm not sure if they are just that stupid or think their potential customers are. Nobody will want a used one if these in 10 years like they will an FJ. Nostalgia only takes you so far

I agree that the LC was never about value and never really made sense compared to the GX or 4Runner. I did notice in the first segment of the video, the GX550's price was never directly mentioned, and a quick googling shows that the base GX cost about 6-7k more than the base LC. I think there're some people who'd prefer rather get the LC specifically because it doesn't have fancy features that might be considered unreliable or difficult to fix in 10 years, like KDSS, etc.
@Realistick
@Realistick 7 дней назад
I put the price in there at the 3 minute mark when I brought up the Lexus interior!🥸The LC could be a good value in 1958 form to people who will never set their gaze on a 4Runner. A niche, but one that I think I should have hit more here outside in the conclusion! Though I do disagree with the notion that LC is more straightforward. Most GX models don’t have KDSS (which used to be in the LC) and they also don’t have a big, expensive battery to worry about either.

@@Realistick base model GX vs mid-LC (at MSRP) is wild. the GX feels like the better value. Why doesn’t anyone talk about the new 4Runner being a butt ugly vehicle?? Also the higher trim 4Runners are the better comp and they will undoubtedly be 60k +.
