I love the neck on my Music Man Mariposa, it's got no lacquer and it's just finished with wax and gun stock oil, it feels amazing and is really slick to play. Before getting the Mariposa, I had sanded the neck on my Fender American Vintage '65 strat to get this kind of feel so two of my three guitars have this kind of neck feel. My Jason Isbell Fender Custom Telecaster has a nitro lacquered neck, I don't mind it but I'd rather it felt more like my Marisposa and my Strat.

This is a great upgrade. Would be nice if it came from Fender sanded. Now, you can determine the shade of wax on the neck. I agree, it feels much nicer and enjoyable to play. I will follow you, and attempt DIM (Do It Myself). Thanks for showing your Go at the job. You have me confidence to give it a go. Based on Custom shop pricing, you just added $500 on increased value. Great work.

It honestly feels great, every time I pick it up I’m like, damn, I did a good job on this! I need to redo my Strat really as the tele feels waaay better. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I sanded down the neck on a 60th anniversary Tele with a lacquer neck and it did wonders. It had been played for about 10 years already but still had stick to it. I didn’t do too much. You can’t even see that it’s different but you can feel it.

Fine gauge wire wool is better than sandpaper No scratching 👍

I've got a Tele with a ridiculously thick poly lacquer on the neck. I might give it the ol' 180 grit and give it a good Jason mod 👍

Haha, you’re missing the point, I don’t want sandpaper scratches in the neck lacquer as it will make for an unpleasurable playing experience!

i sanded down the necks on two of my guitars for the same reason, i guess it comes down wether you are going to keep it or sell it, a friend of mine almost had a stroke when he learned what i did, it's just a piece of wood that goes twang and i don't intend to sell mine so it's a moot point, do what makes it better for you is my point.

Yeah I guess I just ignore resale value, usually my intent is to keep a bit of gear so I do what I want with it and then just accept that I’ve lowered the value if I do decide to sell it. In my opinion though the guitar is now much improved.
