Chick is a humble guy to sit beside a young kid who's burning those keys up...but Chick had so many years of fire music what does he care at this point but to make sure that kids are interested in jazz? Love this guy!
that synergy is immense... the way they articulate off each other and transition lead was beautiful let alone their creative phrasing. I loved the direction of the music; the way it developed was so sublime. watching it I felt immersed and in tune with where they were going.
I asked Brian Blade if I could help him with anything when he was setting up to soundcheck at Skidmore College. He asked me to grab his cymbals and thanked me when I returned with them. I hadn't heard him play before the show but afterwards I realized it was me who should have thanked him, what an honor! He has an unbelievable sensitivity when he plays, wow. I was working that show but he even asked my name with gratitude. Means a lot that there are musicians like this, thank you Mr. Blade.
What an incredible performance by a 70+ Chick and 16 year old Beka. But can there be any other kind by either one of these two musicians? At the time of the performance, Beka was only 16 years old and still kind of Chick's musical Mini Me, but the his own musical voice was flowering and has only grown vastly stronger. Someone mentioned how frightened they would have been if they had been Beka, but Beka was leaping to get up on the stage and play next to Chick, who I consider to possibly the worlds greatest living musician. It was a performance and a master class with Chick for Beka, and an opportunity to jam with McBride and Blade, 2 other growing legends. Just can't say enough, so I'll go back to listening to the Corea/Gary Burton album I just bought.
Chick and Beka could be conjoined twins, brothers, or just best friends attached at the hips. lol The intuition at the piano is beyond compare though, be sure. I keep waiting for Chick and Beka to morph into one person with four arms.

Thanks for the upload! Awesome music...Kinda sad these jazz fest don't take place often where I live unless its at some expensive vineyard in Cali....America NEEDS this music yesterday. This music will stop any rioting and cause more inspiring... If I were a Mayor and something bad went down in my city, I'd be on the phone calling musicians and erecting stages imploring all that would to come listen while in mourning. Into the night...

Beka Gochiashvili: the best diplomat you have... that is what Chick Corea says: "The best diplomat you have" ( in Georgia, since Tbilisi , formerly known as Tiflis, is the capital and the largest city of Georgia)... and don't forget about the great bass player Christian McBride and the (also "young") old drummer Brian Blade...
I found myself asking, "Why wasn't this level of talent so apparent when I was younger, like in the 1980's? What is rarer then?" The answers turns out to be multifaceted. First, there are obviously more people in the world, and a larger percentage are playing piano. Second, we're more readily aware of the total amount talent than we were in the 80's--at that time, all we had were a limited number of cassette tapes and vinyl records to represent what selected talent was recorded (or what we saw live in concert). There's another element becoming more evident over the past 8-10 years: young musicians (say age 13 - early 20's) see the tremendous talent online/RU-vid and are encouraged to work hard--the element of competition and drive. There you have it! Let me know what you think. Cheers!
Chick the eternal jazz great along with the other greats in this classic jazz band God bless you chick for ur super music . Sennen Antonio Dourado Wisconsin Milwaukee/Mumbai
i was on this concert 9 years ago. good god i was like 10 or 9 years old and it was the most cultivating experience in my life. I play jazz now and i couldnt be more glad!
Mr Chick who is our big legend was always welcome with your talents and he found one of the best of the best. Mr. Beka is such a big talent who would effect the jazz world as a wonderful jazz pianist. Thank you for both who provided us best sounds...
Man this kid is really going to be big, I have been listening to Chick my entire life and have never heard anyone that can duplicate his songs, note for note, add notes and copy his technique.
He has become Absolute Monster Already. I am from his country, working in Jazz Club and he plays with us time to time. He is incredible, I think, as a performer he is one of the greatest in history already. I've been quite subjective here but music is subjective. I will link one of his performances with Stanley Clarke band down there, so Enjoy.
Great take of the song with an even greater personnel. It's easy to see Beka is having the time of his life, watching Chick play those lines right in front of him.
could not stop watching/listening. fascinating jazz for the entire set. a great great jazz video on so many levels. LOVE the smiles on McBride and Blade's faces during Beka's solos, I think they smile because Beka's got it TOGETHER and is on fire to play. Thanks so much for this wonderful post. just downloaded beka's new CD, been waiting for it.
Whilst this playing astounds me for its inventiveness and rhythmic and melodic complexity, it's Chick's phrase at 17:54 (probably the simplest phrase of the entire video) which always makes me smile (and seems to make Christian McBride happy too)
Such a heart-warmer on a rather chilly Autumn night (here in NZ)! The greatest trio of today + a brilliant young talent from Georgia. Yes, Georgia … this area of Europe seems to be rapidly developing in many aspects including music. I’m reminded of the great jazz guitarist, Ryo Kawasaki, who has been living in Estonia for years. There must be something great happening on the east side of Europe.
Four amazing musicians there. Beka is astounding. It also says a lot for Chick Corea. How many world class musicians would do that? Two great jazz pianists playing side by side so you can't spot the join of their lines when you close your eyes (at least I didn't). Many years ago I was admonished for using the phrase "the great Chick Corea". Well I guess it was the wrong word back then (I'm late mid-fifties and was a school boy when I first listened to him). I've got loads of "his"* albums ranging from the sublime to the "um, I think I'll just put that one at the back somewhere". *"his" in quotes because most of "his" stuff involves other musicians who are in no means in mere supporting roles. (Wish I could express that better. As a great leader he's a great supporter.)
This set is wonderful! You can see that Beka has studied Chick's style (as well as other jazz greats)... And for his years of study, one of the master's, Chick Corea, shows a true appreciation and admiration toward Beka & symbolically the younger generation of jazz musicians!! long story short.. I'm jealous :|
In my opinion Chick Corea is an enormous artist in almost everything he tries to do but I think is clear that he cannot catch the Monk way to play in straight no chaser, is a very very personal song, so difficult to replicate or even play worthily.
Chick is the best - we have been friends for over 30 years - but never played together. Great performance by everyone!. Christian McBride played bass on my ANGEL FACE CD. He is an awesome bassist! TenaciousRecords.comm
man what an honor to sit on the same piano at the same time on the same show sharing the stage!!!! this young man will never forget this moment!!!! he is about to take off because of this!! Im happy for him!!!
Wow! Christian McBride, Brian Blade and Chick Corea on the same stage! This kid did great, didn't choke up, in the midst of these great musicians! That's a credit to his skills and concentration.
Merci.

Beka Gochiashvili is a ridiculous pianist even for his age he has some serious chops and feel, he is certainly the one to watch along with Christian Sands, its a great time for pianist to learn from these new generation of players.
Practice Everyday, I remember when Christian McBride was one of the young lions and now he is The Godfather of another generation. So much talent coming up from all over the world. You got to love jazz because most will barely make a living at it.
you should put in as many hours as him, and then do some thinking about this opinion of yours. there is not only one definition of swing. everyone swings in their own way. get over yourself
