@@Usernameunknown129 yes, I do this with my Monstera Albo right now. It's already giving me 8 new leaves in just 5 months! I've killed 3 Monstera albo, 1 yellow and 1 Thai constellation before. So I learned my lessons
@@Usernameunknown129 congratulations! 🤣 I've been struggling because of the lighting and soil conditions I guess. Now my Monstera Albo and Thai are thriving either with growlight or natural sunlight.
Ummm...if they keep dying, I recommend allowing your Thai to acclimate to it's new surroundings before repotting. Repotting after transit is doubly traumatic.
I'm more concerned with her putting it straight in the window more than repotting it. She did a good mix and I'm sure the thai will do good. The only thing that might go wrong now is some of the leaves getting crispy but the baby leaves should be perfect:)
Nah, my philosophy is "imma neglect you, and if you make it through a drafty winter and my 3-week long summer vacation, then you're a keeper." If they die, they die. The only exceptions are a sundew and Butterworth, but they just sit in their respective cloaches. I don't got time for finicky plants lol
personally I'd consider myself a laid back parent. Water when they're dry, stakes and poles once they need truly them, a shower every couple of months to keep them dust free and "You grow when you grow, Baby. Take your time. Brown edges? No problem, you're stunning the way you are! Oh and here's your quarterly dose of vitamins, don't let the thrips bite!"
Don't have kids either but I think I'm the "oops left Timmy at supermarket again, forgot I had him with him" type of mom. And then the cops asks me when it was the last time I bought groceries and that is how they find out that the gremlin behind the fridge has been there since 1995.
TBH, not even this mix saved my Thai from root rot. As soon as I switched it to LECA and it grew water roots.... I'm happy to report it now is pushing its first new leaf. 😊
@C E R E Z A Just make sure to check it the first few times of changing out the nutrients! I pulled it out and cut off any soil root rot and put it back in.
Lmao mines in a weird mix of pumice, leca, perlite and a tad bit of pon. Basically whatever chunky substrates I had and all in a giant vase. It instantly started growing new roots and loved it. They’re so dang weird.
Nice to know the experts kill plants too 😂. No but seriously, trying to raise plants now I realize some plants are just going to die and it may not have been anything you even did 😭 especially buying from your local store.
I read and do not know if it’s true but because most Thai cons are derived from the same mother plant and that mother plant had root rot during the tissue culture process the root rot is passed on to every plant produced.
Might be overkill but I wonder if extra holes around the outside of the pot would help it dry out, even just tiny micro holes to let air in from the sides
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I seen a gal on here who has leaves the size of a platter dish, and all her plants are huge with good roots, her plants pots all have slits on the sides and seen has insanely crazy success with plants, hee name is Melissa, if you want her channel name, let me know, and I can look for it,for you. Her plants are beautiful!✌🏼
Mine must be strange. I bare rooted it, took it through customs, and traveled for 24 hours with it in a bag. Once home, I repotted it in the soil I had lying around. Not a hint of shock 🤷🏽♂️
Honestly, I’ve gotten over leaves facing the ‘right’ way. They literally move to capture the most light possible, and after awhile, my monstera was actually the one who made me appreciate an unruly plant.
i always told other plant enthusiasts that after 2 tries of a kind of plant it's maybe time to pass on it. some plants just aren't vibing in some spaces. why give 100% to a plant that will barely survive instead of a plant that will? i KNOW some plants will never be in my space. it would just be wasteful at this point to buy it over and over. get the plant, wait 4 seasons, and if it thrives then ok. if it doesn't then don't get more. and if it thrives too much demand rent
I just threw mine in a huge thrifted glass bowl with leca on bottom and chunky mix on top. The roots are now bursting and it’s given me 3 new leaves. I think leca is what makes these guys happy when inside
If this doesn't work I have some things to look into: 1. systemic granules are awesome but I have noticed, especially in Araceae, that they can cause leaf chlorosis and drop very suddenly. The plants come back if the rootstock is healthy. 2. Pure coco husk is actually awesome as it's super airy and remains moist for a long time, but doesn't drown plants that hate water. I often find that super chunky soil mixes are great, but if you forget to water them ONCE you end up with dry rot and that's especially an issue in Thai Cons. It's something to try if this one doesn't work out in your environment!! Hope this helps! Good luck!!
I'm not suggesting to anyone to do this.. but i have close to 100 plants. I always forget to water them. I do when a plant falls on the floor because it became so lightweight from lack of water... i don't give them plant food and i change the soil once every few years. Maybe it's the climate at my home but about 90% of those plants are thriving. Especially my monsteras, i have a bunch of them. I have one right now that's laying on it's side because it needs support and it's still growing two new leaves. I guess there is such a thing as "suffocating them with love".
It’s very weird how you have such a hard time keeping Thai constellations alive due to watering issues or which ever issues are being caused, I have two Thai constellations and both are doing completely fine when I water them when the soil is completely dry and they don’t get a lot of humidity, maybe it’s just bad luck for you.😅
I have about 4 now and they’re actually easy going. The earlier ones I had were all really young and not as established. I’ve since learned to get plants with a heartier root system so there’s more room for error when it comes to watering
I finally just bought a start from a “version 1” (2018) Monstera Thai Constellation. I am sick of the one I bought this year. Same problem, it keeps rotting. I’m trying PON as it rots in an aroid mix and moss. If PON doesn’t work I’ll try a soilless medium. If that doesn’t work, she’s gone. The 2018 plant has caused me zero stress!
I'd suggest waiting a couple weeks and seeing how the plant adjust ESPECIALLY if there's more apparent issue with the plant and AFTER you change everything just cause even if this might've been a good mix there's still possibility for shock
“Never had a plant that hates water so much” lol Remind me of my *unlabelled* grocery store plants which I kept buying each year cause they wouldn’t make it. Never saw such drama queens who hated the light in my basement. They were coffee plants & I miss the first drama queen.
This is literally me with every orchid because in my climate if i don't repot them IMMEDIATELY after buying, they just give up on life and existing 😭 Edit: especially the orchids with the fine roots like oncidiums or any terrarium orchid for that matter 🥲
man i want a room full of plants but i also know how my panic attacks get (e.g. i killed not one but TWO ball cacti bc they drowned in the rain when i was literally worried *sick* )
I’ve never understood how peoples TCs get such bad root rot. Mine was super root bound in chunky soil and I watered like every two days, kept it in 80-90% humidity, high ferts, and strong lighting in my mini greenhouse. It thrived. I took it out of the greenhouse, repotted into a self watering pot that was probably too big with substrate that will hold onto more moisture, and it’s still thriving. It’s unfurling it’s biggest and most fenestrated leaf yet. It’s high variegation too. Now albos? Can barely keep them going and they drop leaves constantly. I’d suggest using a healthy root fertilizer and aroid fertilizer from Rousseau every time you water, I think that might be why mine don’t get root rot. I also use his leaf fertilizing spray every or every other day. I also add superthrive to the watering jug once a week, and it makes my plants grow insanely fast. Good luck lol
What is facing the wrong way? I put mine in PON in a self watering pot and the root went nuts! I just repotted in a bigger nursery pot to make sure it drains extra well.
Meanwhile I have a mint plant I found half buried in a river and it was not just thriving there but when I literally ripped half of it it up and planted it at mine it refused to grow without several litres of water for it to live in
Amazingly nurtured 😊 Could you please tell me the potting soil mix you used & also tell in which other plants I can use the same potting soil mix. Thanx in advance overseas friend😊
I have a few but the recipe is this: 1.5tsp neem with .5tsp Castile soap per quart of warm water. Peppermint oil is extra because some can’t stand the smell of neem. Keep plants out of direct light after use until dry: www.amazon.com/shop/ohtheplacesyoullgrow/list/3M6Q00C7ZCJIP?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_aipsflist_aipsfohtheplacesyoullgrow_4B2CKS7PT05STM0YYTFW
Isn’t that like a very expensive plant? Why keep trying if they truly keep dying on you? I’d ask the same about any plant someone keeps having bad luck with but especially if it’s a pricey one. Genuine question. Although I guess if there was a plant I loved and dreamed of owning I may want to try again too, depending on how frustrating and what went wrong the first time, so I suppose I answered my own question. I recently acquired my first alocasia and while it’s a bit of a learning curve, I feel like I wouldn’t just be done with alocasia if my first try isn’t a success. Overall I’m not killing plants so I should be able to figure it out. Now I’m just answering my own question and rambling. Ok bye.
Me with Calatheas. They seem to hate me but I just love them too much so I keep rebuying 🥲 thankfully they're not overly expensive and I tell myself that someday I'm gonna figure them out and will stop killing them. Currently on plant nr. 3 and this time I lowkey try to convince myself its because it's a rescue plant (neglected and then discounted by store) that was already in quite a bad shape and not me lol
Helicopter Mom pretty much? Monstera are sooo resistant. Put them in a nice not to bright space, water them whenever the soil gets dry, and they are happily growing usually...
sooo… just a tip for next time - don’t take out of pot straight away!! 😊 just leave it for at least 2-3 weeks to acclimatise to your new home conditions. then you can repot if you wish and add the additions to the soil. but the packaging you’ve bought it from looks excellent so i’d imagine the potting mix is more than fine to leave it as is. good luck!! they are beautiful plants.
omg I'm a borderline abusive plant parent, 90% of the time I severely neglect them but when they almost die I give them some leftover water from a bottle in my bag that's been there for 4 weeks and they're doing great :') maybe you should let your leafy kids go a little bit. Chill, they'll work it out on their own. Makes them resilient I guess hehe
I always clean off my thai constellation roots 100%. Leave no moss or anything. I then immediately pot it into lechuza and a self watering pot...it's been 100% effective
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow if you haven't it's expensive, but it gets cheaper as you go. It's reusable so initially to transfer over a plant it's very expensive but to pot up each time it's significantly cheaper and eventually you'll add a mosspole so you only use so much pon and get the pot so big before the majority of your roots are on a pole. For many anthuriums, monsteras, and definitely all alocasias pon will change the game
immediate repot with completely new soul after getting the plant, neem oil use, blasting it with sun after it’s been in a dark box. I think it was VERY clear why they don’t survive. 😢 this was so not chill to watch. curious to know how this little guy managed. I leave my new plants alone for at least 2 weeks in a corner before gradually moving closer to a window. repotting after 3 weeks to a month.
I don’t blast my plants with sun or grow lights after any oil-based spray, as it can cause leaf burn. Plants don’t need to acclimate after having been shipped, though. The “chill” unboxing was satire. 99% of my content is tongue-in-cheek and not to be taken literally word for word. This Thai Con is huge now and living its best life. I gifted it to my friend and I plant sat for her last week and this plant was among them.

My thai is doing well after a couple of months, but when i repotted it (the roots were hitting the edges of its last pot, it did get upset with the extra moisture i think? So it killed off some of the older/smaller leaves. No worries i got like 3 lovely leaves happy as can be

Are you getting them all from the same place? It might be a bad mother plant. I treat mine like shit and she's been propagated probably three times. She's kept very small because I'm all out of room. I heard it has issues but I haven't experienced any at all and I bought mine from Facebook marketplace
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow oh that's great to hear! There's something to be said about the mother plants. I got mine in a 3" pot. She's in a 1 gallon now because I've been cutting her back to keep her smallish while I matured a dark lord for my nephew (it took the planned space for the Thai)
I'm not trying to hate but I wonder how the leaves were facing the wrong way? Like they weren't all facing the same direction? Since plants move towards good conditions, I usually just place them where they will live and then let their leaves move to wherever they like best. But I'm also super novice and let my plants do their plant thing for the most part. I don't have any super challenging plants tho, so that may be why I haven't learned about making the leaves face a certain way??
I didn't know you were supposed to make them face a certain way? When mine start leaning or reaching I turn it around to make it reach the other way? I'm very new to being a plant momma though!
This one is from a nursery called plantlove4me. I also get my rarer plants from Pretty in Green. They sell younger plants at lower prices: bit.ly/RAREPLANTS
