"After the housekeeper's body was taken from the well, some in the village said that the cook rode with her all the way to the coroner. And there, he insisted on cleaning her himself, which he managed with a soft towel, soap scented with lavender and the greatest of care. He stayed at her side until she was buried and he loved her the whole way. I'm told and I believe, that he loves her still" The sobs that escaped me at that moment...
Their story was beautiful and tragic 😢. But honestly the part about him bathing the body didn’t necessarily make sense to me? Wouldn’t they need to examine it given the circumstances? She was also down there enough days, exposed to the elements, that I don’t think she’d be in great condition. Kind of morbid to think about. Maybe it’s supposed to be a nod to Hill House, except he obviously wouldn’t have done the medical parts.
@@janedoll3237 I washed and prepared my grandad for burial when he died with soap, water and towel - it's completely normal in our culture. Different cultures treat the dead differently. In many parts of the East for example, it's normal and expected that someone close will clean the corpse before gently wrapping it up with a white cloth for burial (or cremation). It may seem morbid to you, but in other parts of the world it's a respectful, loving and caring ritual. What I find morbid is people who rip out the insides and inject preservative liquids into their dead loved ones, keeping them for weeks or months on end. But as I said, what's morbid to one might be the opposite to another.
@@janedoll3237and that exactly why his love is so great he didnt mind any of the smell or look of what hannah has became. Everyone else would find it morbid like you said. He cleaned and prepared her bc its his way of saying goodbye in the most respectful way to make up all the time she been dead in the well
What a life they could have had. I'm told and I believe, that he loves her still. And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
My favourite character. Hannah’s conversation with Owen at the kitchen table where she learnt the truth brought a tear to my eye. Brilliant actress. Hopefully they will bring T’Nia back for the third season 🤞
She has just been confirmed to be apart of the cast for Mike Flanagan’s new season based off The Fall of the House of Usher. I’m so excited she’s absolutely amazing!
It broke my heart that she was trying to convince herself that she was alive, and when I realized that the reason why she couldn’t go to Paris was because she had already died, her story broke me.
Does anyone else think about the fact that Hannah's story perfectly executes the butterfly effect? Some of the smallest things could've saved Hannah like Dani just driving the full way to Bly instead of getting out and walking.
That's not really true though, is it? The moment Dani arrived was just the moment that Miles/Peter showed Hannah her own body at the bottom of the well, it's not the moment Miles/Peter pushed her in. She had been dead for a while when Dani arrived.
@@jasperlucas5642 yeah but had she driven there Dani would've been their much much earlier. Even before she got pushed especially considering how far from the house Owen let her out. She would've been there at least 5-10 minutes faster.
@@samkpam Yeah I get what you mean but those things happened on different days right? The day she was pushed in wasn't the day Dani arrived, that was much later.
@@jasperlucas5642 nope it was the same day. You might wanna watch episode 1 and 5 again. They try to make it show that Hannah has been dead ever since Dani arrived. As soon as Hannah dies at the bottom of the well, her ghost appears at the top of the well. And then Miles says "so this is her" but he looks dazed because Peter just stopped possessing him. There's little to no time in between those events they just pause for a long period so that we as an audience can take in what happened.
Worst of all, she believes in something that doesn't exist. I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble identifying with her. I can't believe you know you're dead, but you still think this is Hell on Earth and you're hoping you'll make it all the way to Heaven.
I hated these religious idiots like Hannah Grose, who believed in something like they were being taken to Paradise, but no! I don't think that ever happened. I mean, why can't they just wake up and accept that there was no such thing as God. Hell is also non-existent. There is only the cycle of life and death, referred to as "reincarnation!" Live, die, and repeat!
For you that might be the truth but for me and my family islam is the truth and we seek out people who challenge our belief and constantly win the battle for me that is true and the only reason you don't reply with "bullshit" or a mean comment is because I mentioned it.
i feel so bad for Owen. losing the two people he really cares about in the span of a few days. that's how you write tragedies. and this director has a knack for that skill
It’s been a long time since I cared so deeply about a TV character. She was a wonderful being and I really wished to see her happy. This is so sad but so fitting for the story.
@@MDH20021 True but Rebecca received several warnings about Peter. He showed her who he is over and over again, but she chose to still be with him. She was fully aware of the type of man Peter was. Hannah was completely innocent. The only mistake Hannah made was getting into Peter's business but she did not know how crazy he was.
The trauma of them knowing Miles, while possessed, pushed her and he having a “terrible dream” he hurt Hannah. I think small blessing they didn’t find the truth.
Hannah grose was dead due to Peter quint, he was angry at her just because she stopped him from stealing expensive things from the manor. She didn't deserve to die like that, both Hannah and Danielle.
@@vanousisi8112 Miles was possessed by Peter at the time, so it was definitely Peter who killed Hannah. There's also a scene where the kids are tired and Hannah and Jaime are putting them to bed and you can hear Miles telling Hannah he had a bad dream where he hurt her. 🥲 I forget which episode this was in tho.
The way director expresses Hannah is almost mind- blowing .... Even no one could play that role except Hannah .. but it's very tragic and sad that she is dead ..... According to me , this is true ❤️ real love ..... Which made me cry ...
The entire series is an art! It's so different than the regular horror content that we get to see usually. It beautifully blends horror and romance. It's indeed a love story but one with a lesson!!!
@@qwertyuiopz123 I was wondering that too. Because the actress said she did not read the script of episode 5 until filming. So normally she would not have known that her character was dead and how she died.
She went to heaven that's why she always returned to the best memory she had and that's why peter returned to a bad memory but now that dani let viola in the gravity that was holding them got released so now she's resting in heaven❤️
Owen asking Hannah to run away with her being what broke her delusion that she was still alive gutted me. Her happiest memory with him helping her to embrace her death and letting go of her past in order to save the kids and the real Owen was so heartbreaking. She loved him enough to give up on her dream of being with him forever. But in a way, she still was because he loved her just as much and guys I'll never be over this.
Episode 5 was really a turning point for me. I’m usually not a fan of the horror genre but this show is so sophisticated, the message so deep, the story so elaborate. The episode really is exceptional and Hanna’s story really moving.
I just love that every character in the Haunting series' has an entire episode to themselves to really pull the audience in to their mind. All of the characters in both shows are outstanding.
I honestly didn’t expect to love her character that much from episode 1 but her story just broke my heart. She deserved a happy and long life with Owen😭
No. Love can be scary but it all depends on the individual. Peter and Rebecca had a scary obsessed love while the other characters had a more innocent sweet love.
I like how the detail that captured by the last few words mentioned by Hannah at the end of episode 5. When she said many overlap words, it slowly fades as she came to realisation that she already dead. It subtly shown by the last "You are Hannah Grose" sounded like a mumbling words "You are... a... Ghost..." Whether the name of her character meant to turn out that way or not, but Kudos to Flanagan for such a brilliant detail if it's true🙌
In season 1 I wanted to hug and protect poor Nell, her husband died… I just wanted to hug her. Season 2, Hannah is my favorite character. I just want to hug her, she’s such a kind/selfless/genuine woman. Edit: i rewatched bly and Hannah is the most beautiful character in the series. “I loved her completely, she loved me the same, that’s all”
This was amazing i love Hannah! So glad this was put together! Such an amazingly sad story definitely one of the characters i was rooting for from the start she deserved better!!
I love how Hannah kinda mirrors Viola in death. Both of them are able to be much more present than the others through sheer stubbornness and denial (Viola obviously and Hannah being able to change clothes and physically interact with the world unlike Peter and Rebecca). It makes the tragedy just that bit more bittersweet.
Somehow, even while watching the show for the first time, I had a gut feeling that she was pulling a Sixth Sense. I guessed it from the crack she kept on seeing everywhere. And by how lost she seemed right in the middle of events. I was still sad when I saw the real scene. She deserved the best ending among all. 💔
You gotta admire the way Flanagan shows past thru flashback but it turns out it is just a memory of a ghost who doesn't have the sense of time. Sleep, wake, walk ,forget and repeat indeed.
Learning that Hannah had been dead the entire time broke my fucking heart, her love story with Owen was pure and beautiful. I couldn't help but smile every time they showed their adoration for each other. It was probably the biggest injustice in the series, because if anyone deserved to be loved it was Hannah. I have never sobbed more in my life for a character than I did for her, realising she had been looking down at her body when we first meet her. Peter Quint deserved to become a faceless monster, because that's all he was. The worst part for me is the children forgot, so many people perished trying to protect them and they just... forgot.
Hannah Grose's after-death experiences reminded me of the Tibetan Book of the Dead's instructions on the bardo between lives, where parts of you are stripped away piece by piece and if you can stay level-headed then you can go into the light, like Hannah did at the end once the curse was broken.
Just started reading a fanfic about Owen and Jamie trying to heal with each other after everything was said and done. I had no idea I’d be crying over TWO SEPARATE love stories when I watched this show.
I couldn't help but think how similar Hanna's clinging to certain memories, her repeating some facts about her self over and over, the confusion she felt every time she would travel or wander from one memory into another and the illness of demantia that Owen's mom was suffering from ... I find it very interesting that hanna was struggling the whole time trying to cling to her own past with difficulty just like Owen's mom did.
In the final episode years later, the Bly's estate nanny, groundskeeper and chef, all meet up. The chef mentions that he saw the children recently, all grown up, that they remember everyone except Hannah. That was a chilling moment realizing how Hannah was only at Bly a very short time alive.
the characters that i love in this movie is only Hannah and Owen, surprisingly, i love their characters. and the actors playing them really fits them a lottttt
Hannah's episode was masterful! It was so confusing at first how everything kept jumping around and coming back to the conversation with Owen and seeing that crack in the wall. And then when everything was revealed, as crazy confusing as it all felt, everything fell into place PERFECTLY. This is my kind of horror--it was definitely creepy and a scary though nowhere near Hill House, thank God--I'm actually a big chicken and it's really hard for me to watch horror movies/shows and not lose sleep. But I will subject myself to Flannagan's work because at least I know I'm going to get a great story and not a bunch of gratuitous jump scares.
Her story broke my heart. This show was so sad. I was crying all through the last few episodes, especially the narrator telling us that Owen washed her body himself, and stayed with her until she was buried. I was just overcome. 😓
Hannah’s story was the most disturbing to me. The thought of losing time, not knowing you’re passed or not accepting it, and just an empty feeling of longing. What a show ❤
i still can't understand how could she shake hands with Dani and touch Owen (like Owen kissed her on a cheek and she fell asleep on his shoulder) when the other ghosts couldn't touch anyone who was alive??? I mean when Peter died, Rebbeca couldn't touch him too.
Peter could touch things at first, right after he died. Then after he saw the ghost dragging his body and realized he was dead, he couldn't do it anymore.
This wasn't one of my favorites but Hannah and Owen stood out so much to me. I couldn't wait to see him work with them again and they didn't disappoint in The Fall of the House of Usher.
She's been dream hopping for most of the time and all the characters didn't even know her dead. Though I'm just wondering how did she do it? Is she a part of the house or is she a soul without any grudge to any of the characters? I'm quite confused with her time hopping ability and her humanlike interaction with the living...
