The EcoFlow Wave 2 is more than just a typical air conditioner, as it also has a heating mode that functions as a heat pump, making it extremely efficient.
After testing this unit for over a month, I can say that I had an excellent overall experience. The Wave 2's 1,159Wh battery can last up to 8 hours in eco mode and returned 3 hours of cold air in maximum mode. Plus, if the battery isn't large enough for your needs, you can run the unit indefinitely with shore power.
In my review, I'll share more details about my experience with the EcoFlow Wave 2, including its ease of use and portability. I'll also demonstrate how it works in both cooling and heating modes, so you can get a better idea of its performance.
So, check out the rest of my review and let me know your thoughts in the comments. If you're looking for a reliable and efficient portable air conditioner and heater, the EcoFlow Wave 2 is definitely worth considering.

When I use it in my van I run the van's AC for 15 minutes to remove most of the heat then keep the Wave on eco all night to maintain the cool temps.
@mats77
@mats77 4 месяца назад
That is what I was thinking about doing as well. I know everything is relative to temperature, but roughly how much of the battery do you use overnight using your strategy?
@williamdthomas9968
@williamdthomas9968 Год назад
After watching this video, there are a few points about Wave2 that caught my attention: The accompanying battery cannot be charged separately; it must be connected to the air conditioner to charge. This is particularly troublesome and unreasonable. When I deplete the battery of the air conditioner outdoors and want to charge it, I have to carry the entire air conditioning unit with me. Keep in mind that this adds up to a weight of 50 pounds. Wow, 50 pounds! What does that have to do with portability? For me, portability is a crucial factor to consider, and I might choose Zero Breeze instead. Their product weighs less than 30 pounds, which is half the weight of Wave2, and can be easily lifted with one hand.
@ginajones3963
@ginajones3963 Год назад
Oh, thank you! I was initially considering EcoFlow, but now I'm leaning towards Zero Breeze. Although EcoFlow has a higher BTU, Zero Breeze should be sufficient for my tent.

Insulation and shade are key to proper cooling. When I ripped the roof liner out of my van it became a hit box in the sun. Inside temperature easily came to 30°F over ambient. So putting new insulation in is my top priority before summer

As for condensation that you noticed when in heat mode, think of it this way: it’s a dehumidifier on whatever the cooling side is, so in heat mode it is actually dehumidifying the outside air (perhaps the reason why drainage is required in heat mode). While it doesn’t actually remove water from the inside air in heat mode, it does raise the temperature which will lower the relative humidity, making the heated air feel dryer.

Great review! Installed in a vehicle like this there's definitely room for further improvement in efficiency... A shroud for the condenser (cooling mode) inlet with another duct leading to the drivers side window would help. As it's connected now the unit is pushing hot air out the exhaust duct, but that means it's pulling in unconditioned air through leaks or vents in the cabin, reducing efficiency. A separate fresh air inlet for the condenser would provide this, and keep unconditioned (warm) air from being drawn in. Another possible direction would be to mount the unit outside the van. Build a shelf that would hang on the top of one of mostly open the windows, external to the van, maybe with an extendible painters pole attached to support the weight. The unit would sit, with just the front section inside the van. Use foam poster board cut to block airflow around the opening - between the unit and the door frame. And maybe another foam board arched over the top of the unit to reduce its exposure to the elements. Besides being more efficient, this option would likely make it quieter inside the van.
@AdventureGearTV
@AdventureGearTV Год назад
This unit has me thinking of insulating the van better. The system works, but my van doesn’t do it any favors. I’m going to try it in a tent soon.
@matthewwiemken7293
@matthewwiemken7293 Год назад
Yep:) he is basically creating a negative pressure environment in the van and with the exhaust hose just going out the window with all air gaps mostly pulling hot air directly back in the car creating a hot zone up front making the AC even less efficient. I would not follow what this guy did at all:)
@matthewprather7386
@matthewprather7386 Год назад
@@matthewwiemken7293 I don't think his setup is too terrible... At least the air he's exhausting is probably quite a bit warmer than the ambient / outside air that's getting drawn in through leaks. But there's definitely room for improvement.
@matthewprather7386
@matthewprather7386 Год назад
@@AdventureGearTV insulation would certainly help, especially if it's in the sun. But the biggest efficiency gain will still be had by sealing up the air leaks. Keep the conditioned air inside and the unconditioned air on the outside. Then insulation. Then covering the windows. Cover on the outside in the summer - to keep the IR outside the glass. On the inside in the winter. Actually, if the van has factory interior - headliner and upholstery, both of which function as insulation, I'd tackle the window covers first.

Great Review! - Now Manufactures or after market designers need to take into account the Van designs, The base of the passengers or Divers seat should be either a power bank/ or a 12V Power station!! - or as a first step design power banks to simply slide under the seats All of this to Maximize Room in vans! - The NEXT step would be to design Front seats to be Modular A/C-Heaters all incorporated, again to maximize Van space!! - this step would incorporate drainage and an outside air port exchange built in to the vans!! - so to summarize an easy to disconnect Modular Seat system(for ease of repair or transferability) that is a Power bank and AC/Fan/dehumidifier Built in SEAT UNIT would be ideal for Mobile situations! - who wouldn’t want to jump in their van and just tap a few buttons an be ready to go vs having to setup these Hog size type of units constantly?

If the wave2 with battery was inside the tent. You run the two hoses to the outside, which keep you cooling or heating. Or you keep the wave2 outside the tent, just have the air output blowing into the tent. Just the unit would not know what temperature was inside the tent. As the wave2 with external battery is required for cooling or hearting off grid or with use from the xt60 dc Jack say for other batteries, direct solar panels or like vehicle dc. If your camp site had ac 120v standard plug you just use the ac adaptor to wave2. You wouldn’t need the external battery. Seems the external battery has the dc regulator built into it so it’s required for solar or other dc sources for use cooling or heating.

Sounds like you have a broken battery. With the battery connected it should pull 800w, either all 800 to chargethe battery, or 400 for the battery and 400 for the unit if it's on. I was happy to find if you're plugged into the wall it doesn't run power "through" the battery, just charges it then leaves it as a backup. Of course, the battery being LiFePO4, and seperately chargable, would have been much better. Though it would also be much bigger and heavier!

Having both the Zero Breeze Mark2 and Wave1, and having watched the video, I firmly believe that the Mark2 remains the superior choice for my outdoor activities. However, the Wave2 disappoints me as it can only be powered by Ecoflow's proprietary battery and power storage, rendering my other brand's power storage and battery systems unusable. Moreover, the connection cable between the air conditioner and the battery is inconveniently bulky and prone to being misplaced. Unlike the ZB Mark2, it cannot be conveniently positioned between the front seats. Additionally, I am aware of the quality issues encountered with the Wave1, such as fan axle breakage and display failure, which understandably raises concerns among users. Unfortunately, it is challenging to anticipate when these problems might arise. The lack of information regarding any improvements made by Ecoflow for the Wave2 during this period leaves me uncertain if these issues have been adequately addressed.

@@cwindsor8585 evaporator is the hot side of the ac. Condenser is the cool side. You WANT to use outside air to blow the heat away from the evaporator. Is anyone else disappointed with the ecoflow Wave 2 air conditioner/heater? My recommendation is to use 7 inch air duct insulation to put over the AC exhaust hose. Because the exhaust hose omits a lot of heat from it. Also, the right side of the Wave 2 housing/body gets extremely warm and omits heat. This should be insulated on the inside. And I've noticed the Wave 2 fresh air hose when connected it seems to draw in the hot Texas summer air and diminishes cooling output. As well I noticed the battery life barely works for 2 hours on max before it is completely drained of power and dead! This unit is very overpriced for the performance that it shortly offers.

Its more like managing realistic expectations, especially depending on ambient temperature and heat load from direct sunlight. If you have dark paint on your van, the heat load will be massive and this unit will likely not catch up until the sun goes down. Of course, if you only use the exhaust hose....you are pulling HOT air into your vehicle to compensate for that exhaust air. You need to connect the intake and exhaust hoses, routing both outside the vehicle.

But expecting it to jump start from a very hot interior temperature say 90 to cool down is being foolish if you have a working air conditioner in a vehicle... only my opinion... and how i plan to effectively work with mine...if your temperature is already ambient... i see eco flow as more efficient in maintaining a good temperature

@AdventureGearTV
@AdventureGearTV Год назад
It might make the system a little more efficient with the second hose, but I prefer not to use it so that bugs don’t fly directly into the intake. I’m not sure how much more efficient it would be with the dedicated intake hose hooked up. But, it works fine this.
@Gryllus2501
@Gryllus2501 Год назад
I’m assuming it would help efficiency as it’s design is a split ac. Like there divided inside the unit. Air coming input moves across the radiator, the excess hot air is blow out. On the front inside air is stuck in and move across the other side of radiator which then blow out front. Normally you don’t want to suck in the air your already cooling. That’s the correct design function. But that any space you trying maintain air pressure, which is sealed off from the external air. Since the wave2 with external battery is all water proof. He could set the whole thing outside. Just attach the large hose to the front output and blow in fresh air to the van. It might actually cool better as the rest of unit outside keep all that heat outside.

Does the connection on the Wave 2 where the battery plugs in to, does it just have 2 pins or does it also have some data pins? Trying to determine if I can jerry rig my own alternate DC power source using that connection as their price per wH for their battery is very poor and I have existing DC power source options at my disposal.

The XT60i has data pins, and the XT150 plug has 6-8 additional needle pins.

Question - I just purchased the wave 2 with the add on battery that slides onto the bottom. When running the wave 2 on cooling with the shore power plugged in - I noticed that it seems to run off the battery as the battery’s charge was dripping. How do I get the unit to run off of shore power alone? When I turn off the battery the wave 2 turns off even though it is plugged into shore power. Thanks for your help.
@AdventureGearTV
@AdventureGearTV Год назад
Unplug the battery from the Wave 2. It’ll run off AC power alone.
@jondrew55
@jondrew55 Год назад
The AC is intriguing. The heater argument is laughable. How can you compare the heat pump efficiency of a battery powered system to a plug in space heater? If you only look at the heating, you're comparing an $1100 unit to a $30 unit that you don't pay for the power at a campsite. That said, I'd definately consider this for the AC operation. As far as that initial cool down, don't forget, you most likely have a very powerful AC system in your vehicle and can get the interior comforatble using that then use the Eco mode on the EcoFlow 2
@AdventureGearTV
@AdventureGearTV Год назад
Not matter how you look at it, a device like this is expensive compared the those space heaters or a plain fan. For $500 you can get a window AC unit. But, then you wouldn’t be Glamping in style.
@stephenwalczak3166
@stephenwalczak3166 Год назад
For whatever reason Ecoflow didn't try hard enough with this A/C. So much restriction on charging and using a NMC battery is just pathetic.
@OGJeff685
@OGJeff685 Год назад
If you don't use both intake and exhaust hoses there's no way this thing will work at all. You MUST pull air from the outside and then exhaust it back out.. otherwise it's worthless.

I know this is a older post. But going to ask this question anyway. Is there a way to turn of the battery charge lights? I just got the unit. But use it about once a week. So charge the battery up when I get a chance. But if it sits for two days the battery will start running down. Thinking it has to be the lights on the battery because the unit has not been used . It really does suck when you go to use it and the battery is not full and know you charged it to full. TIA

I disconnect the XT150 cable while not using it because of this problem. You can also hold the power button to shut it down if I remember correctly.

Hi man, I noticed quite a bit of water pouring out of the unit (when tilted) even after I hit the drain button, would you say this is normal? I've never owned an AC unit before.

Yes. I have to carefully drain the rest every time I use it.

Put a piece of screen on the end , you are wasting your time using it the way you are ! It’s creating a negative pressure and sucking heat into the vehicle ! ????

If you use a larger power station like the Delta 2 Max, you can run it and charge it at the same time.

Don't buy this thing. the battery need the top part (36Lb) main machine to charge the add on battery. So, wherever you need to charge the battery, you need to bring the top part. Just don't understand why the battery is detachable for no meaning. They don't have an individual charger for the add on battery. the designer is out of mind. Don't make sense.
