Matthew is so important to me. I found out I was autistic as an adult. From my experience I don't see a lot of representation in Christian communities of low support ("high functioning") autistic people. I only see high support characters or parents of handicap individuals but I don't relate them. I also don't relate to neurotypical characters. Yes I'm autistic but I have a job and kids and a husband and I'm still dealing with normal adult situations. My brain just works differently. That is exactly what I see in Matthew in this show and it makes me cry. I love it so much ❤

This is the first time I've seen this. I must say I watched the first two episodes of Season 1 when it was available and I couldn't get into it(don't come for me, I'll explain) The lighting was muted, the sound was difficult to catch etc. I took a break for a few months and after everyone started applauding the series, I watched again with fresh eyes. I cannot tell you how many times I felt financially trapped like Simon, like what am I gonna do? Feeling terrified, desperate, and how would I be able to "come clean" with what a mess I'd made. This series, along with deep Bible study has allowed me the chance to fully understand these were/are real people. They are not ethereal beings. They were men, and women who got a nudge like, this man is very special and they dropped what they were doing to "Come and see" and follow Him. Around last Easter I got a feeling God wanted me to write out the Bible. I started with the New Testament (also a feeling to start there) I am currently in The Book of Numbers, ch 23. I cannot begin to tell you the impact this has made on my life and understanding how deeply woven all of it is. I used to think the Bible was random, unrelated stories lol, how silly that sounds now. It's like God lifted my eyelids to help me really "see," everything is connected and leads straight to Jesus. To study about Rahab, Tamar and Ruth. How marginalized they were, wrong profession, not Jewish, less than. Yet God "really saw them," He knew how integral to the Davidic line they were and weaved them through Jesus' lineage. When I saw and understood that, I can see how many times God has done the same thing throughout my life to get me to see that I too am important and integral to Jesus' story. I thank you f on the bottom of my heart

My son is autistic also. He is high functioning to a certain extent. When he was in school the guidance counselor called me in and said that Wes has scored completely off the charts on some of the tests. His speech teacher said that there was a genius in side, but we don’t know how to get it out. At supper each night, he can pray the most beautiful blessings you have ever heard. I think Matthew’s character is absolutely perfect for the role and is truly touched my heart.

How does one know they have autism before taking the tests? Is it that they have a different way of interacting with others? Is it mostly a social thing?

I have two sons on the spectrum, but they are more severely impacted. Even so, it has been so refreshing to see the portrayal of Matthew. People with special needs have so much to offer and anything that helps people see their value more clearly is so appreciated.

This show was the impetus moving me forward in the grieving process when my husband passed away. I am Catholic. Although there are some things in the show that do not quite match up with my faith, I appreciate the fact that you take the time and effort to consult with a priest, a Rabbi, and an evangelical pastor to come to a consensus on the character portrayals. I am a mix of the Andrew and Matthew characters, so their stories resonate with me. I use a lot of imagery from the Chosen when I pray, especially Jesus' human nature and his praying to our Heavenly Father and how He was changing the world through the twelve and the others. Thank you for all your hard work and the dedication of your cast and crew.

What The Chosen is good at ARE these new ideas. Preaching 'styles' can be so distracting. I love that when Jesus gets intense in The Chosen it makes sense. When it's about people being led astray, and false leadership then He reminds me of a roadside sign saying; 'danger ahead'. I also love the pithy sayings like when He is asked, What are you losing Jesus?....'time.' The creativity and relatability of this series are so needed in these times. Why wouldn't God want to make it all more real for our age? I Love that Matthew is on the spectrum. 💕

This is so beautiful to see & hear. I've known several people, young & old , that were on the spectrum. Seeing Matthew has given me so much more understanding, in such a special setting. Yet another reason why I love The Chosen so much. Thank you so much Dallas. You have given our world so much - & made Jesus & his life & his disciples & followers so much more real. Bless you.

First, I love the show and how it came to be, the cast and their own histories. It is perfect timing for our world. I am truly grateful. I do want to share I appreciate Matthew's character and how he is being expressed. Having worked within the autistic world for nearly 35 years, I think it's all fitting and Paras Patel is doing a remarkable job. Dallas, I just need to comment on your impression that 'we just didn't diagnose children on the spectrum back in the 80's - or that somehow we missed them' and that they 'just struggled.' That's not true. The stats were 1/10,000 back in the 80's when I attended graduate school... now it's 1/36 ... sorry, we didn't "overlook" them. The environment and our lifestyles have placed a lot more children in a compromised position. Many now refer to it as the "total load" theory ... meaning too many stressors and the system breaks down. Back in the 80's and 90's we were 'allowed' to report "autistic-like tendencies" - which perhaps you may fall under, as you indicated you have autistic-like behaviors. It was part of the natural human range. We look at the level that 'challenges' or differences interfere with one's ability to learn, build relationships, become independent, etc. And yes, such developmental challenges can "run in families" as you described. Matthew's character depicts one end of the human continuum. Unfortunately, today too many children have fallen off the continuum as their quality of life is so challenged. I don't believe It's what God intended. We humans need to take responsibility for the mess we have created. I'm not alone in this view. Anyone wondering can check out Documenting Hope - they are helping kids recover, changing lives. God Bless you, your family, your cast and crew. Remarkable work.

5:17 ... I pictured Matthew before "The Chosen" as someone like a used car salesman who was a smooth talker, particularly because of the story where he has a dinner with his friends for Jesus after he converted. I also then imaged a group of beaureaucrats gathered then. The show added things I hadn't previously consider.

I saw the first three seasons and am watching again beginning with season 1. My opinion (for what that is worth) is that there is a special anointing, for lack of better word, on this series. Beyond the story and actors, there seems to be an anointing that causes personal reflection on our personal relationship with Father, Son and Spirit. Powerful movie. Thank you Da;;as for taking on this project.

The Chosen is heresy. There is no special blessing. It presents a false Jesus that makes up most of it's content which is forbidden in the Bible. I could go on and on. Do me a favor and do a search on RU-vid of the problems with this series. There are many.

@@run4cmt The Chosen is a historical Biblical story. As for judging, please read Matthew 7:1-2, The Holy Bible, King James Version. These verses come from Sermon on the Mount offered by Jesus Christ: "1. Judge not, that ye be not judged. "2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." (Matthew 7:1-2, The Holy Bible, King James Version)

As the mother of some A.D.D diagnosed sons and husband I have some thoughts about it. I have to say.I don't think it's a disability, Society is labeled at that because it doesn't fit.The mold were founded on, Which I think is sort of the way a females mind works, But I do believe it's a way that a brain is wired that has incredible results. Einstein fit this mold.And so did many other brilliant people in our society. Those are accomplished incredible feats scientifically, Artistically they were labeled as children as a problem. The wiring is such that when there's something that your heart is invested in your brain just absorbs everything it can and there's a real.Incredible focus On what you're interested in. Think that's why they have had trouble in school because when they're focused on the tasks that I want to be told it's time to move on to something what they want to focus on and nothing else takes precedence, But when allowed to follow their passion what they produce and accomplish is incredible. So I do believe god uses this Differently wired brain to do amazing things. And the chosen is an amazing thing. Just one woman's thoughts.❤

The world is hoping we go through panic cost and maybe even beyond, but at least in season 7.There needs to be a pentecost as the beginning of the church, And the reality of the holy spirit who is such a part of this series and yet invisible. I love so much about the show. I watched the Nicodemus by night segment three times and cried every time and then again when he left the offering. But Matthew troubles me. Patel is wonderful. But we are talking about a *writer* of the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST! Matthew has to be presented as totally competent, intelligent, perceptive, and believable, or some seekers and skeptics will reject his account! Because much of the public will not be aware of how all of the above someone on the Spectrum can be. To make him more endearing, he could show more love for snimals as he did the dog. He could feed the birds, feed a mother fox, something like that. (And Jesus in the Bible did not refuse anyone healing and make them cry, with a conclusion of men.) Much of the show is charming and touching and wonderful, but the "loaves and fishes" must be nourishing, and not too "different" and "interesting" to be edible. Respectfully ❤~

There’s no hint whatsoever from the 4 Gospels that Matthew is autistic. The only description of him is “tax collector” Not even from Paul’s epistles you find he’s off or different. In fact the disciples were only mentioned lightly and except Simon Peter, you only find short dialogues from the rest of them with Jesus. Dallas said it’s plausible Matthew has the spectrum because he’s dealing with numbers and on his gospel, the genealogy was mentioned in detail. What? It’s not surprising to know Jews in the first century know their lineage. They teach their children to memorize and recite their genealogy at young age then handed down to the next generation. It’s embedded in their tradition to preserve their identity as Jewish history is family history based on descent so they teach their children to start memorizing their genealogy at young age. All of them including Simon, Andrew and even Jesus growing up. The gospel of Luke has detailed genealogy too!

How is the name Jesus even the Messiah's name? The letter J has only existed for 500 yrs
@leenieledejo6849
@leenieledejo6849 2 месяца назад
Jesus understands because people in English speaking countries have been using the name for hundreds of years. It's called an ENGLISH TRANSLATION of the name. Chinese people living in the US, Europe etc often use an "English name" because certain nuanced sounds in Chinese DO NOT EXIST in the English language so not only are their Chinese names hard to pronounce, they're often impossible with limited practice to get just right. It's normal for names to be translated and if you knew anything about languages, you would know why. Just two examples: the sound "sh" doesn't exist in the Greek language i.e they DON'T USE IT and so most cannot say it. When I was in Greece when I was younger, a song called "Shut Up" was sung by young Greeks as "tzut up". That's why Yashua is "Iesous" in Greek. In French, the "y" sound is not common at the start of words. Almost every word in the French dictionary starting with "y" is a foreign import. That's why they use the "J" sound for "Jesus". [In Italian it's a similar case but they spell "Jesus" with a soft "G" (which is said the same way as "J" in English): Gesú]. So if "Jesus" was spelled "Gesus" in English (like the male name "Gene" is spelled with a "G" rather than a "J"), would that satisfy you? When Jesus speaks about worshipping "in Spirit and in Truth" in John 4, part of what he means is to go BEYOND petty, carnal obsessions and focusing on what's important. A relationship with him is what counts. If I don't mind people translating my name, I am very sure that he doesn't. He speaks every language.

Making up things the Bible doesn't actually say or mean is apparently something that runs in his family. His father is the author of the false prophecy books and movies called Left Behind. Everybody who makes movies and writes books about Jesus should just feel free to make up whatever they want. That way we'll know them by their fruit, as Jesus told us here: Matthew 7:15-23 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
