The Chronic hands down. Without that album, there is NO Doggystyle. Now, musically, I do like Doggystyle more, but in terms of impact and cultural importance The Chronic is unbeatable.

@@kennethstanford3520 I don’t disagree, but this is specifically between the Chronic and Doggystyle. For impact and importance, THe Chronic takes it. For pure music, it’s more subjective but I’d roll with Doggystyle cause I feel like Dre improved and elevated his formula there.

If you add the leftover songs that didn’t get the samples cleared doggystyle by a land mile. The songs on doggystyle aged much better, the beats aged much better and the lyrics on the Chronic are questionable- a nigga with a gun?? Rat at that tat? Bitches ain’t shit? The only real good songs that aged well are the singles and doggy dog world > every song outside of little ghetto boy and maybe nothing but a g thang. Ain’t no fun is better than bitches ain’t shit. Doggystyle is also more well Rounded with songs like murder was the case and then you got what’s my name This isn’t really close for me musically.

I think Doggystyle stamped the West as dominant in the rap game. Chronic was like bringing that G funk in. By the time 1994 came in the West was on top.

when Doggystyle came out everybody started wanting to dress and act like Snoop. Remember those Hockey jerseys? even Pac was rocking them. Snoop wore Tommy hilfiger on SNL then suddenly everyone in the hood started wearing Tommy. The cornrolls, french braids, u had females like Da Brat trying to emulate Snoop, kids like lil bow wow wanting to be Snoop. Don't get me wrong the chronic was a landmark album, but when it comes to style, seems like everyone was trying to emulate the G funk sound from Doggystyle. Biggie switched up his flow to be more laid back, and you started seeing gangs pop up across the country and i think Doggystyle had a bigger influence on that. Also white kids were really into Snoop, he was on Beavis & Butthead

Being from Cleveland I'll out it this way....89-92 rap me and my friends listened to was split. Krs,Kane, Tribe called quest,black sheep,PE then Nwa,Quik, Short,Cube. Geto Boys down south. But the chronic came out... that's all me and my friends wanted to look like and emulate. We stopped hearing and listening to NY. If it wasnt West it didnt matter. Rappers from midwest like Bo$$ and Bone looked very West coast after the chronic. Doggystkyle was a victory lap for the west and Deathrow. Took both to new level.

Snoop showed us the Gs out there ain't always angry, they can be cool and laid back enjoy the party, chill on the porch getting stoned, it ain't all violence, snoop really had that charisma to go with it, cool and laid back whilst painting a picture of the life style out there, love the chronic and doggystyle both the same but for some reason tend to bump doggystyle more it's ideal for the house party when you have a few back from the pub (I say pub becouse I live in England 😆 it's the equilivant to a bar out there incase you don't know) ✌️

People really forget how big snoop was musically, you had to be there for real for real he was bigger than 2pac MUSICALLY before pac hit death row. From 92-95 snoop didn’t miss! Chronic, Doggystyle, murder was the case soundtrack, Dogg Food. Also he brought a lot of talent with him Nate, Daz, Kurupt, RBX, Tray Dee, Soopafly etc He built death row and no one had a run like that. Everybody wanted to be from Compton when NWA dropped, everybody wanted to be from California when snoop dropped

People always forget.......you gotta take it back to 1991...NIGGAZ4LIFE drops....then dre leaves....the world was in shock... Then a year later the chronic drops and it completely destroys everyone... Now we got g funk .. NWA was done.. all the sudden from out of nowhere we got rage, rbx, daz, kurupt, snoop, warren g.. going back to 1992 listening to the chronic was like moses delivering the 10 commandments .

I remember a couple of days before Snoops DoggyStyle Album even came out at the recordstores DJ's on the Radio Station played Snoop Dog's Whole DoggyStyle album on the Radio like 2 times in a row. In terms of West Coast dominantion, West Coast Rap started popping before both albums. NWA was already a well established group that broke up. But West Coast had a huge presence in underground Rap as well as commercial Rap, and Oakland played a huge role in early 90s Rap. Word of mouth, shows, and the Jukebox got alot of West Coast artists recognition well outside their home cities. You had Too Short, Cube, Quik, CMW, Ice T, Hammer, Spice 1 and others who were huge names. By like 1990, West Coast already had a firm hold on the Rap Market. Chronic came out two years later. As far as the two albums though, the Chronic definitely is the more influential album that set the trend for later West Coast Music as it more or less created the G funk sound (although NWA Niggaz4life experimented with this a bit prior). Doggystyle was mainly a follow-up (although a great and well executed one).

The Chronic sketched and drew the sound and image of West Coast Hip Hop; Doggystyle painted and furnished the style and image of West Coast Hip Hop! It was more of a party record and showcase the lively image of LA. It also changed the landscape of Hip Hop's dominance where street records entered the pop charts and even white college body schools embraced it more.

That's a hard one but I'm gone say the Chronic but both albums had a big impact in my city LA rap influence the shxt out of Dallas in the 90s it wasn't a 5.0 or old school that wasn't playing them albums driving down the street if I had some old footage how hangouts use to look like at night when everybody was pushing Dayton rims they was playing them albums and mc eiht all for the money that was a hood anthem 🤷‍♂️

Chronic was when the West really put the game in a strangle hold. Bases Loaded. Doggystyle was walk off homer and LA won the chip 🏆 As a kid it never registered when Dre said "no medallions, dread locks or blackfists" he was sorta signaling the beginning of West Coast dominance over (mainly East Coast) acts like ATCQ and PE but yeah, culturally thats when the west began to really dominate the rest of the country. 🫡

white america was actually terrified of Snoop because he looked like a legit gangbanger. not to mention he was on trial for murder. a lot of people view rappers as gimmicks back in the day, but when snoop came out he brought that realism. he dress like the people off the block, he was c walking at the AMA awards, he was wearing crip colors and throwing up gang signs. no other rapper was throwing up gang signs before snoop. at least not on a mainstream level

When it comes to the west coast takeover, love him or hate him, you can’t leave Hammer’s name out the mix. Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em was the first rap record to go DIAMOND. NOBODY in rap did it like MC Hammer. It might be pop rap but dude showed us all how far this Hip Hop thing could take you. You gotta mention Cypress Hill’s debut in 1991. Certainly Death Certificate. All that stuff predated the Death Row movement.

Doggystyle was better than The Chronic!👍🏽 Snoop’s album defined West Coast music and made you want to party! The Chronic focused too much on dissing Eazy-E. It had some bangers, but I have to say Snoop’s Doggystyle to this day is one of the best albums ever made because of it’s influence it had on everyone that listened to it!🕶️🎤🔥👑
