From one lifelong Irving fan to another, I've really enjoyed your reviews of his work. Good stuff, sir and so thank you for the hard work you put into these vids:) After watching a bunch of your vids, I think it may be time for a complete Irving reread so thanks for inspiring that, as well.
Thank you, thank you! I've been debating to ask you to review a John Irving book and you selected my favorite John Irving novel! You've hit the nail directly on the head, John Irving is considered a literary novelist but he is so easy and enjoyable to read. And yes I was looking forward to your opinion as you stated earlier in the video and your personal story is very touching.
Brian, this is my favorite John Irving novel with 'The World According to Garp' coming in a close second. 'The Prayer for Owen Meany' would be first but it went on for 200 pages longer than it should have... I've not reread these novels, all first-reads 30+ years ago now. When in high school I read 'Great Expectations' by Charles DIckens, and it was the best novel I'd ever read. I was 14 years old and there were two endings. I made the mistake to reread it 10 years ago and it didn't hold up. As Hemingway said, 'The great things we remember in a book, we put there ourselves...' I've always liked that observation. I saw recently a video where you mentioned 'Lonesome Dove' as a favorite novel. Recommend 'Little Big Man' by Thomas Berger. These two are the two best western novels of all time, in my humble opinion. Keep us the great reviews. I'm not a SF or Fantasy fan but I still value your opinions.
I really enjoyed Cider House Rules and this video about it was excellent also. John Irving writes children characters so well. The Prayer for Owen Meany is also a superb novel with children protagonists. We are glad you are here too and it is a shame that some folks just don't realize how improbable human existence is and value it more.
Great review! Know what you talking about because I am adopted too. One of my favorite books and favorite authors. Love your reviews and your own books!
"I came this far in the review". What a fitting story for the times we are in and the laws that are being debated at this time. I had a friend who was adopted and thankfully it was to good people and we both had a great childhood. Lovely review like always. Side note many of us made it because of the laws of the land. Myself included lol.
One of my favorite places in the world is Maine. This movie was filmed on location there…one of the locations was Sand Beach. It is such a gorgeous place in Acadia National Park.
I think your views are wholesome and most women agree: pro-choice options are necessary and life should be celebrated when the women decides to continue the pregnancy.
Hello, thx for this review. I don't agree, at the end, when you say that there's no stabbing. There's stabbing in this story. done to and by the father.
agree on the abortions they should be legalized it's a womens choice and should not be taken out. I agree with what this book is saying. I just wish in this world people would leave it up to a women on weather to have a abortion or not. great review thanks for sharing.
I really don't connect with the right or left on this issue but putting that aside, most of the people that are against abortion according too many polls are women. Most hispanic women that I know would want nothing to do with a woman that had an abortion not counting rape or health problems.
I almost always finish watching your book reviews. I value your opinion and you're not trying to impress us with your knowledge of the book. However, The Cider House Rules just doesn't sound like my cup of tea. But, thanks for the review of it.
Great review, I will give this book a chance, The abortion issue has never been a main issue for me in terms of how I will vote, I've voted for pro-life Republicans and pro-choice Democrats. I'm somewhere in the middle with this issue. Republicans wanting to ban it is too much government control but Democrats that celebrate it are f@@@ing gross.
You skipped so much. Homer’s first family was upset he was too quite, his second family tortured him to make sound, the family after that was swept away by a flood, after that Homer stayed In the home as long as possible, only learning after assuming a different identity that he has to do what he hates for the betterment of society.
