Poison and Wine starts playing. I think, "WHO IS THIS?" and grab a pen and paper to write their names down. On that day the hook was set deep in my jaw..

I think anyone who has ever loved someone maybe a little too long can understand this song. I couldn't stop crying. At 2:42 when they are singing face to face, you almost think they are going to kiss, then the music stops and she backs away. Greatest song EVER!

Songwriting can be a deeply personal process, especially writing with someone of the opposite sex. It's a whole level of intimacy that not everyone gets and to share that with someone while being in a relationship with someone else can be dangerous.

I have never seen so much **PASSION** between 2 performers who are not married!!!!! Their chemistry is insane! I must have watched this video a dozen times but I just noticed something at the 3:38 mark -- when Joy pulls away, there is water at the side of her eye.

So sad these two split up. There is NO ONE out there to fill their void. NONE, THATS whats so heart breaking. What they had was akin to magic! The way they harmonized? Their style? Just friggin EVERYTHING! Jeez! I have missed their music soo much. Damn. They really let their fans down. I do hope that they are BOTH doing well in their personal lives now. I also hope they know how much they are missed & how much we wish they would have worked out their differences. I honestly PRAY they still will. Just....damn.....just sad. All I can say.

I come back to this song so often, even after 12+ years. It’s hauntingly beautiful, something in the fabric of their very voices is so deeply beautiful and also painful. Will never forget the impact of first hearing this song, it’s so rare to hear to people sonically intertwine in such a beautiful way.

Other's decisions, circumstances, societies' expectations, etc...sweeps us along to an inevitable outcome we did not ask for, but our hearts choose to hold on to the love even if the pain is too much to bear.

These two captured Lightning in a bottle with Barton Hollow. That whole album is amazing. And its sad that they couldnt keep the group together because their chemistry is palpable. Its so obvious that there were some feelings there that just couldn't work in a singing group. Incredible artists. Still cant find anyone who sounds quite like the Civil Wars.

After 3 Hessa song, it hurts me so much to think that they are only characters and don't exist. There's so much hard work invested in this book and Harry and Tessa's love is something so exquisite. The complexity behind the history and the characters is something I'll never forget. I hope one day Anna Renné can publish After, I'll buy it. Also, beautiful song. It fits the book oh so well. x

A brilliantly conceived love song, as honest as any I’ve ever heard. The tenderness of the delivery is as willingly vulnerable as the duality of the lyrics are exposed, brave and bold. The plus and minus side of any common battery. At all points in between, lay the both of us, eh. (I go to it often. To play it over and over. Like melting candle wax to hold my eternally broken heart together.)

I love this song it talks about the push and pull of being in love with another person. It's like poison and wine in the relationship because of the ups and downs we go through.
