I think everybody respects anybody who is fighting for their freedom, that is a very fragile and precious thing...The trouble is, there is so many today that never has experienced it......
ThatHoosierGuy unfortunately they didn´t do anything like that in their performance 2018 in their " Legacy of the Beast "tour but I sure miss that scene, somehow I´ve got the feeling that Bruce wanted the stage to himself....
@@damiangallego2388 so true, and all of us knows, only too well, that at a certain point our bodies starts to wear out, no matter how hard we try not to
Might be the best live metal performance of all time, and maybe the best live Maiden song ever. Bruce's spoken intro gives me chills every time..."...but which sometimes is..not".
@@susannewilliamsson8339 from what I remember wasn't just before this they were looked at a washed up band living of what they did in the 80's? Always thought of this concert as them saying otherwise...
@@stephenramos2824 hmm, a tricky question, since I´ve always loved them, even in their so called dark era this is really hard to explain.....BUT the concert in Rio was to me as many others the revival of Maiden and our feelings towards them....and I honestly think that their music since then has only improved in time, now it´s a bit more progressive, complexed like symphonies really, simply timeless and gorgeous......and I consider the concert in Rio to be the best they ever made, and I seriousley think it couldn´t ever be better performed, nor even by themselves.....
Well put and written review. I do believe this was the concert for them.. us. The Bare' . .. who ever put the footage together deserves a nod as well. They displayed it in a way that captured the emotion... of how much the band believes in the message they send. Can only imagine a concert of this magnitude with A Matter of Life and Death.
Erick Von Witz Blaze's version is better, people are just completely blinded by their lopsided bias. Steve chose Blaze because he wanted a darker voice for the record he had in mind; Steve is no idiot, why would he have chosen a bad singer? Blaze is great, as is Bruce, but Paul songs sound better with Paul, Bruce songs sound better with Bruce and Blaze songs sound better with Blaze, because you know what? Steve and co. write songs to fit the voice of the vocalist they currently have. Calling Blaze talentless is implying Harris and co. are morons, and they're NOT.
Erick Von Witz Having the song played at a faster tempo has nothing to do with Bruce's vocal abilities since Blaze also plays it faster nowadays in his live shows. Besides, maybe you should stop being such a Bruce fanatic and realize he also made mistakes... a lot of them. For exemple - what's up with his raspy Brian Johnson wannabe vocals on No prayer for the dying and Fear of the dark? What's up with his first solo record being a complete rip off of AC/DC? Bruce's influence in the band made them produce their two worst albums, replete with subpar hard rock numbers with incredibly stupid lyrics like Bring your daughter to the slaughter, Holy Smoke, From here to eternity, Weekend Warrior etc. Ovbiously, in that point in his carrer, Bruce wanted to distanced himself from metal and go full on hard rock mode, which resulted in the band's worst albums ever. As soon as Bruce left, gone was the AC/DC clone songs and back was the classic maiden sound, althought with darker themes. Also, you might want to check out Blaze's solo career since he left Maiden; it's awesome. Silicon Messiah, The Tenth Dimension, The Man who would no Die - those three records beat anything released by Maiden since Bruce's return. Paul had the perfect voice for the punkish sound of the two first records - it becomes obvious when you listen to live rendition of those songs with Bruce, it just doesn't fit the more aggressive vocal style of Di'Anno. Bruce had the perfect voice for the more melodic approach they took from Piece of Mind to Seventh Son, and Blaze had the perfect voice for the much darker X-Factor and to a lesser extent Virtual XI.
Erick Von Witz Sorry but Murders on Rue Morgue is straight up punk song, and it's on Killers. Saying Blaze was not as good as Bruce for Maiden is one thing; saying he's an incompetent vocalist is another entirely. Nobody ever said he was a bad vocalist while he was in Wolfsbane. The only reason he got such a bad reputation is the same as with Ripper Owens - people just couln't accept anybody singing for Maiden or Priest instead of Bruce or Rob. Blaze was criticized for having a voice too disimilar to Bruce while Owens was criticized for having a voice too similar to Halford - damned if you do, damned if you don't. Blaze's solo career so far has been better and way more creative and consistent than both Bruce's carreer as a whole (Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding are awesome, but the first 3 records where pure shite) and Maiden's new millenium output so far (Brave New World and AMOLAD where pretty good, Final Frontier was so-so and Dance of death is the worst maiden album to date) Give a listen to Blaze's Born as a Stranger, Speed of Light, Kill and Destroy, Blackmailer... open up your mind, Bruce is the best singer for Maiden yeah, but Blaze is a great singer, not to mention an excellent songwriter and lyricist.
Perfect scene! Bruce foi fundamental para a entrada de janick na banda em 1989 assim como Janick foi fundamental para o retorno de Bruce em 1999, janick ja negociava com Bruce o seu retorno, os dois são grandes amigos!
man this is a thing of beauty, powerful perfomance of a great song. This song has so many time changes and maiden just nail it like if they were eating a sandwich on a sunny picnic day, i can only thanks maiden for all the joy they have given and give to my life.
I have seen Maiden 3 times in concert. They are the most professional band I have ever seen, and I've seen most of the greats. They rarely mess up, any of them. Flawless performance all 3 times.
Tim Shields so keep your fingers crossed for me, because I will for the first time ever see them live in London, a long time dream finally came true ....
susanne williamsson+ I hope you enjoy the show. I haven't seen the band with their current guitar lineup, but I am sure Harris will have everything running smoothly. I haven't seen them in person since late 80's. I'm kinda jealous of you,I would love to see them again. Especially in London. I'm sure they will try to give their UK fans their best performance
@@miken2213 it's amazing how little people know nowadays. To think that there's not much different from then till now. Still taking and suppressing but now it's your words & thoughts.
Ignacio Reyes Contreras I just love Nickos total gusto for life he’s amazing and a total inspiration , and what a wicked sense of humour , Hail Hail Hail xox
I can only imagine how great Harris must have felt to hear this song with Dickinson for the first time. Blaze is a good singer, but he was wrong for this band. This song finally comes to life here.

i prefer it with blaze, because he's the one that sung it lately kept a better voice than bruce dickinson, dickinson now a days is annoying to listen to, his voice is terrible, its not the same.
Mike Fish it´s definitevly the only band that has the most educational lyrics, not only history but every aspect of life and death, theese guys are quite outstanding lyrically !! Aswell as musically !!
NOTHING pumps me up more than this song in this performance. Maiden is the only band I know that actually sounds BETTER live than on album; every metal band on earth should get their audio technicians studying under the brilliant techs who work for Maiden.

My good fellows from across the pond..my all time favorite metal band.NO CORPORATE SELLOUTS HERE!!! STILL GOING STRONG FOR 50 YEARS PLUS, MORE THAN THE ENERGIZER BUNNY/!!!!
Larry Mccarty that would NOT be a good idea, at all... they both have at least two brilliant albums, made a tremendous impact to the Maiden, and truth to be told, there wouldn´t even be a Maiden if it weren´t for Steve Harris, and since so many fans loves the voice of Paul, we must be grateful to him too...
The main reason this song is not as popular as some of Maidens most popular songs is because Bruce don't sing it...Most people just look away when they hear blaze singing it without even bothering to see that the real man behind this is Harris
Gregory Chri Are you dumb or something...The original was sung by Blaze ...This came much later and by the time this was out a lot of people had obviously heard the song...By then their opinions about the song had already been formed...It had already been placed way below classics like the number of the beast and the trooper simply because it was sung by Blaze and there were negative opinions about him....If Bruce had sung THE ORIGINAL it would have been pretty popular....I have studied a bit about perception and decision making in college so I have a pretty good idea of how human beings make certain judgemental shortcuts without considering all the factors involved in a situation...
He has writen some of the best songs from the new Maiden era IMO: Ghost Of The Navigator The Mercenary Dream Of Mirrors Out Of The Silent Planet Dance Of Death The Pilgrim The Legacy The Alchemist The Talisman The Book Of Souls and let's not forgget the 90's ones: Be Quick Or Be Dead Wasting Love Lord Of The Flies Man On The Edge etc...

+Jorge Richards Finally someone who knows and understand how important is janick for iron maiden, the guy knows how to write song and hell... who knows how to play the damn guitar in so many stiles and he is the one who has hell of a fun while playing live. I truly admire nr gers he is the force that keep maiden going and united in the hard times of that Im pretty sure, all those you mentioned are great on its own and lets not forget the aftermath, lord of the flies, lightning strike twice, como estais amigo and many more!
Beefache I would say he is very important, an excellent songwriter, a terrific guitarplayer with a very stylish style and epic hands, and a fantastic showman, born to be on stage......
An IMMORTAL masterpiece, a jewel in their discography in its own right, a unique mix of guitar harmonies, bass, drums, solos, riffs and the emotional and powerful interpretation by Bruce.....a gorgeous cry for freedom on that stage, aswell as a superb performance !!!!
Watching them play live you can tell they really enjoy it and it give it their all every time, every song. I'm Watching this video and thinking to myself how lucky I am to grow up in the Iron maiden Era. Fn awesome !!
I've tried memorizing these lyrics and still have trouble singing along with Bruce in my car. Can you imagine playing it live and never once missing a note on the guitar, a drum beat, or a lyric? It's really unbelievable. These guys are amazing. I have the utmost respect for their skill and their professionalism. We are blessed to have lived when they did. Maybe it's how people felt when they heard Mozart or Beethoven live 100's of years ago.
Rod Viquez Why can I still read all this crappy and downright insulting comments about Blaze ?? I promise you, that guy´s an insanely good singer, just listen to him in the Maiden albums or in his solo albums, and why not try to listen to the Blaze Bayley Band ?
I have listened to a lot of his work, be it both Maiden albums, his solo stuff and nylon and just no... IN MY OPINION he is inferior to Bruce in every way. I even find his voice sounding a little bit amateurish some times and I can't understand why that is. I just don't like it and it looks like the most people don't. You do and some others as well, and that is okay. I just can't see why there have to be constant battles about it. We all like different things in life and that's great, without it we would all love just one girl, who would love just one man and everybody else would be dying in deppression.
Ladislav Husák we all have different opinions, that´s true, but I still don´t like all theese crappy and insulting comments, who ever is the target....all of us love the Maiden and their incredible music, so why not be fair about all their members ? Every single one of them made great contributions and wether anyone likes them or not shouldn´t be a reason for this kind of battles.....unfortunately I don´t think there´s a chance of ending it...

Born to Noob Actually on the studio version, Steve Harris performed the song with an acoustic bass. Version with Blaze is still my favourite, the chorus sounds much deep and strong, not to mention the way how he manages the crowd to sing the chorus along with him
THE RAW FORCE OF THIS MAGNIFICENT SONG IS OVERWHELMING......The legendary show Rock in Rio is unbelieveable......And the amazing lyrics, WOW, PRICELESS, TIMELESS,POWERFUL......ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING....UP THE IRONS......
