A look back at one of the greatest teams ever assembled in the history of football. The names of the legends in that great team are still sung by Everton fans to this day. Nil Satis Nisi Optimum. EFC.
Vintage Everton, great memories from the Street end from the 84/85 season, a time all Evertonians of a certain age will never forget, we will still be talking about this team in another 30 years. I still wish for these times again, oh to go back in time to witness all this again.
Even at 1-0 down against Bayern I wasn't worried. I really knew we wold win. It was not hope but belief. All Evertonians had a a great belief in that squad. Getting Alan Harper and Kevin Sheedy from Liverpools reserves and having 2 injury prone players like Gray and Reid was a master stroke by Howard. We can all only dream to have a squad that good in the near future.
Brings a lump to the throat when you see Sharpy and the boys singing Evertonian songs, you just can't imagine the players at the top clubs doing that today - not even at Everton.
I can still well remember that wonderful team. Class, speed, intensity, bravery, fitness... Probably one of the five best teams i've seen in my life (started watching football during mexico 70, aged 6). Vittorio from Italy.
spot on mate, they would want justice for it....i,m a united fan...just watched the bayern game 3-1 85...brilliant team...trevor steven amazing player.....
I was never fearful of Liverpool, but that Everton team was the only team that I knew were better than us. I was nervous when they came to Old Trafford. And that Sheedy had the cutest left foot in the business. We were Robson, Whiteside, Hughes and some others. Everton were a great TEAM. All of them contribution. If I was an Everton fan, I'd still be bitter about not seeing my team in the European Cup.
Neville Southall was one of the best keepers ever . forgot how good a team Everton were back the some great players.I used to have the half celtic half Everton ski hat. Its A Grand Old Team To Play For
I was 17 when all this happened,84 won the cup,86 we were undoubtedly the best team in England we were at each others throats with Liverpool we were stylish unlike Liverpool who were just thorough, between both of us in late 80s we dominated league and cup unfortunately there has only been a few teams who have done double,Liverpool stopped us getting the double ,they ended up with the double that year themselves, but, that was it a couple of years were we matched Liverpool who in all the 80s were the best 80_89,then came Ferguson and he turned around man utd to be relegation threatened to a team who I think will never be matched for their achievements in the premier league
Great Everton side. Real shame that they were denied crack at the European Cup due to the ban. Still puzzled why they sold Andy Gray as he had a cracking season and was a very popular member of the team.
Mervyn Charter gray said once kendall told him he was going to buy linekar it forced his hand to go as would have been a bench player. although he would have stayed if there was no euro ban
+Urdnot Wrex Let him support what he wants to support, what we mean by we don't like foreign supporters is that Liverpool fans have too many foreign supporters so that's why I and Everton fans like to play 'Spot the scouser at anfield'. There has to be a balance between foreigners and non-foreigners.
@ramonblocky1964 That song at the beginning says everything about the difference between today's football and back then. Chanting eleven names, everyone knew those eleven names because they were your TEAM! And all from the British Isles as well. Nowadays, no Prem fan can even name his club's regular 11, as there isn't one, just endless rotation of foreign mercenaries who are in and out faster than we can keep up with them. There just wouldn't be a song like that today. And I'm a City fan!
kevin sheedy, paul bracewell, andy grey, graham sharp, tricky trev, peter reid, deggsy mount, roland rat, phsyco pat, shaggy stevens, neville southall! OH EVERTON OH WE LOVE EVERTON OH EVERTON OH WE LOVE EVERTON!
bbc radio merseyside just done a show about the 85 winning team if your quick it will be on demand for a week listening to it made me just do a search here. The great old days of sharpy and gray legends
Just wish we could have won the european cup had we had the chance in 86, could well have proved to form the foundations of the club today. Never mind though, we have David Moyes to build a squad to the calibare shown in this video. 5/5
It was never kevin the rat in the song it was kevin Ratcliffe. Kevin the Rat is a newer version of the song that's sang nowadays. Whatever happened to Tommy Fearns. Wish we could go back in time to when there was a real buzz on the gwladys street, great memories.
Lfckid - cheers for the stats, a constant reminder that you used to be good. Just a shame that most of it happens before you were born, eh? Say "hello" to Tunbridge Wells for us.
Had the original kit ...loved it...then i put the iron threw it ...seen me ass..it was on tele this but cudnt record it coz me bro wanted to tape superman ..fekin superman i ask ya ! c.o.y.b x x
as a red obviously i hate everton but still admit that 1985 squad was 1 of the best ive ever seen and gave us reds a run for our money in the mid 80s....dont last long though lol
@MrPenrithblue ha ha ha, what's the weather like in wales? tell ya ma, ya ma, to wipe away all ya tears, no trophy for 16 years, tell ya ma ya ma. .... You'll Never Walk Alone ....
Everton 85 team the best english team never to win the european cup,due to no fault of there own, typical liverpool getting us all band...and i,m a united fan,
someone said a small club.. 9 league titles 5 fa cups 1 euro cup winners cup more time in top division than any other team.= joint 4th most successful team in English football..a small club?? 37 000 every week.....tim cahill ruined Liverpool´s title bid..18 years and counting...did u see liverpool v stoke...and they are a team who say they can win the league..??? too funny...3rd if they are lucky
Not fact tit - it's a pity a ban wasn't imposed on English clubs in 1975 when Leeds rioted in the European Cup Final - it would have been interesting to see what type of a club LFC would have become without the European heritage they were allowed to build between 76-81 and may have saved 39 lives that YOUR fans were responsible for taking.
+John13 well done mate that's right and nobody's claiming to of had the success Liverpool had in the 70s/80s this is just a video showcasing a great season for Everton during what was a good period it the clubs history so get over yourself and chill out my redshite friend.
toffeetone77 I know how you feel mate and as hard as yesterday was to take all I can say is keep the faith as I honestly believe there are exciting times ahead but it's just going to take a little time. Up the tofffees!
@MrPenrithblue and if you know ya history, blah blah blah, youve got no history, come to mention you got no future, ha ha always in our shadows,,,,, YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE.....
hahaha.. "ifithadntofbeenfor". woulda won european cup my ass. ManU have 18 titles.. and 3 European cups.. so thats 1 win in every 6 (that doesnt include the times they qualified for EC having not won the league so that ratio is even less than 1 in 6). In '86 Platini's Juventus were KO'd of EC, a better team than Everton 1984/85 Liverpool had lost Graeme Souness and were in period iof transition. In came Steve McMahon and then 1986 Liverpool won the Double beating Everton to both trophies.
lol....u lot aint in no position to talk rite now, as it looks like u havin a relegation battle, finish higher than us??LOL!! on a real though everton wont go down! as i keep sayin though, leagues are NOT won in october! remember i said that come may next year!
