fair, but the chicago cleanup project is aiming to make it safely swimmable by 2050 (number may be slightly inaccurate im a little fuzzy on it)

probably not many, the river adjacent communities are pretty crime-free

yknow we dug a river under the chicago river specifically so that sewage doesnt go in? its pretty cool but on really rainy days the smaller pipe systems cant handle it and sometimes sewage gets flooded into the river itself. Slow replacement of smaller pipes over the next century will make it sewage free, eventually. Pretty cool engineering projects overall

@@aa9945 when you flush it still goes in river & have you seen Webster & Ashland Bridge where things come out from leather factory on Ashland across from Mariano's

@@bobtorres7949 chicago, like other cities, separates drainwater and sewage. Sewage goes to water treatment plants to be cleaned up whereas drainwater, often from rain, snowmelt, etc. is dumped into the river, (though in some places it undergoes water treatment and is recycled) The only time when sewage is pumped into the river is when there is more fluid than the pipes can manage, under which case the sewage uses drainwater piping to exit into the river. So , most of the time, when you flush your toilet, it isnt going into the river

@@aa9945 listen many older buildings downtown & near my neighborhood have same old sewage like Webster & Ashland Bridge go over take look & you'll see all the animal guts come up from.sewage & youll.smeel it been in my neighborhood over 55+ years & Courtland & Clyburn Bridge had all the metal garbage dumped in river until it closed few years ago & your telle that pld metal & people in cement boots are cleaned up from there your cray cray 😜 😳 😐 😒 😑 🙄 😜 😳 let me know how clean river is to swim that no way in health hell would I ever do , worked for Chicago Park District when they would open up river to dump water in lake until late 1980's .
