The problem is the lack of depth and the fragility of both Kawhi and George. The team coming out of the East should beat whoever the West produces (unless it is the Jazz or Nuggets) in five or six games.

Honestly, I would do the trade 100 times out of a 100. If you know DeRozan is not going to take you to the title and the only other alternative is to blow it up, you might as well take a shot at the title with the better player if he becomes available, and if it doesn't work, you blow it up anyway. There is no risk for Toronto, and everything worked out great for them. Now Kawhi still left, but Toronto can finally blow the team up with a title to its name.

Getting the Clippers a championship will be very tough. George is very fragile and getting old. Kawhi will need the type of load management system that Toronto could offer but the Clippers cannot because they do not have the horses.

How do you think that works out? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Danilo Gallinari were both pretty good players that added stability and wins. They are now gone even though Gilgeous-Alexander was supposed to be the chip that would be the foundation of a future LA championship. I do not know the roster well enough but it does not look very good from where I stand at this time. And given that there is no future path through the draft it looks like OKC got the best of the deal.

Game 7 he had no legs in the fourth. Kawhi also is not the best player being Madison Bumgarner is not the best pitcher even though he had the best october any picture has ever had. He never has, even in Sacramento when he was at his peak the big knock against him was that he wouldn't protect the rim. They have Miami’s pick in 2021 unprotected. No Whiteside, no Dragic by then, a weak 2020 free agent class, so unless Bill is right and the Heat do trade for Westbrook that 2021 Heat unprotected pick is looking like a high lottery pick. They also have Miami’s pick in 2023, but if I remember correctly that’s top 14 protected, which only means it would move back a year when the protections are lowered until it conveys... Not to mention, as Zach Lowe said recent NBA history has taught us that projecting 5 years into the future in this league is a fool’s errand. The 2024 & 2026 unprotected Clippers first round picks could be high lottery picks as well. PG-13 & Kawhi’s contracts run out before then, they both have serious medical histories, Pat Bev’s contract runs out before then. They traded away Gilgeous-Alexander, they basically won’t be drafting in the first round between now & then and they’re out of cap space to add much else. 2024 and/or 2026 the Clips could be horrendous & those UNPROTECTED picks could be amazing. Not to mention, when you have a treasure chest of picks like this, you can always package some picks together & move up to get a player you want. Just like ATL did this year to move up to #4.
