Tasmania should not be forced to build a stadium with a roof. i think a lot of people forget the amount of open roof stadiums in Europe that are just as cold and wet, and these are packed out on a weekly basis. Should Brisbane then be forced to have a roof due to the heat and tropical rains? If this is the only reason to deny Tasmania into the competition like the panel mentioned it is honestly a joke.

Eddie has been very outspoken against the expansion into the Gold Coast in the past, even I believe calling for the AFL to pull the pin and abandon this expansion. Now he is calling for everyone to be 'visionary' and look to 'what is going to be'. Make up your mind Eddie. FWIW I believe North Melbourne should have relocated to the Gold Coast 10 years ago and I believe that the only viable way to bring a Tasmanian team into the AFL now (or in the next few years) is for North Melbourne to relocate to Hobart.

Its all b/s, only one stadium in Australia has a roof why insist on Tassie having a new stadium with a roof just so visiting soft Victorians dont catch cold once a year. The AFL morons continue to destroy our once great game making it softer than a rose petal. North have been the subject of relocation for past 15 years its become boring to listen to all the crap that wears away the interest of the game. I for one think the AFL's self imposed social engineering has delivered the game into disrepute and one only has to see the mockery of the rule changes in the past 10-15 years to see the contempt the AFL has for the members and fans of clubs. Time for the Feds to step in and put the AFL on notice if you dont have a more inclusive approach to All states then we will tax you or at very least refuse tax deductions for sponsor contributions. Lets see how "inclusive" the Feds take seriously because in a world against discrimination and for equality the immorality of the AFL stand against Tasmania should be deemed wrong by any measure.

Nope I think the AFL needs Tasmania more than Tasmania needs the AFL. without a tasmanian team there will always be a shadow over the competition where non-aussie rules states have teams and a state that is aussie rules and has generated so much talent does not. It's not a financial thing it's an image thing, and having everything decided by greed and profit will hurt the game in the end. Like how the A-league has lowered the standard of australian soccer, and is now failing finacially as well.

I agree with the no dud games comments Ed. Start by rationalising the number of teams in Victoria. At least 3 of them need to be culled.

It's mentioned about TV rights in the future and the Ideal of few 'dud' games in the future with respect to night games and the need for a stadium to have a roof. Channel Seven's current legal action against Cricket Australia bears the point out perfectly and the AFL would be very cognisant of this. Channel Seven's current legal action may actually be more about applying pressure to sport's governing bodies in future negotiations than it is about any current or recent past perceptions of a sports quality

So if Gold Coast play away games in NT and Cairns who loses their home game. My guess is not Collingwood.

I've said this plenty of times before and I'll say it again if a Tasmanian team is required to have a roof on their home stadium in order to have a licence then every team needs to do the same if this means some stands or entire stadiums need to be demolished then so be it. So no roof no AFL team so at the moment only the teams whose home ground is Marvel Stadium are allowed to play all others should be disbanded. It's only fair I bet the AFL wouldn't like that. Also as others I have talked to have said if Tasmania is denied a team then a name change is in order as it will not be the Australian Football League just the Mainland Football League. Also what is wrong with Bluestone Arena or UTAS Stadium? OK both could do with more seating but that's fine UTAS Stadium's ground is larger than the MCG and is the best draining grounds in the AFL so there's that and the surface is great too but no Tasmania needs a new stadium with a roof apparently. Also Hobart gets the 2nd least amount of rainfall of all the capital cities withe Adelaide getting the least so rain can't be used as an excuse. Also it a Winter sport so yes it is cold but it's not much colder here than it is in Victoria where most of the teams are based and again MCG hasn't got a roof.

Eddie you absolute pillock, you can’t demand a huge stadium when there aren’t enough people in Hobart to fill it! Nothing worse than a half-empty stadium. I doubt whether they’ll fill the current stadium to capacity consistently.

Tasmania should of had a team a long time ago. Gold Coast and gws were a big mistake both are nrl dominant.
