One thing to note about the Komet: Despite having such a short burst of thrust from the rocket, it was an exceptional glider, to the point that it could actually outmaneuver the best allied fighters at the time without any power! However, it was a double edged sword. You only had one chance to land it, cuz if you missed the runway you were unlikely to get a second chance to fly around again. Also, it had a system that I can only really call a "sensor-activated shotgun" = Basically, a bunch of cannons were installed in the back facing upwards, and a sensor was attached to the triggers. The idea was that it would fly under a bomber, with the bomber triggering the sensor and pulling the triggers, sending like 8 cannons blasting into the bomber and ripping it apart.
50:58 Ejection seats actually were a thing, iirc they were invented for the P-38 Lightning because before that if you bailed out you’d probably get sliced in half by the rear elevator. Also you should definitely do an SCP out of the Komet.
I really love YOUR engineering vids……..the others Ive watched tonight, while also funny, didnt have enough educational value compared to yours. Pls do more!
There ARE 2 missing nukes in USA, one on land, really went deep, and not sure if it was ever actually fully dug out, oddly………then one off the coast of South Carolina(?) never been found.
That’s an understatement! It was made to rival a Soviet super jet, which turned out to not be nearly as good as they thought (Foxbat). So it was THE most capable fighter jet in the world when it came out.
