Hello ghouls! It would seem I have become somewhat of a coffin collector these last few years, and now I have bought what may be my favorite item to date. An antique Victorian coffin. Join me as I make it into a mid-century modern inspired coffee table for my living room.

Former funeral director here, I would guess that the 36 is the length in inches. This coffin would be considered full couch since the entire top can come off/lift up. Such beautiful craftsmanship. This reminds me of when i was an apprentice and the family I was assisting said their loved one wanted to be buried in a pink lined casket. So I took it upon myself (with permission from the family and my boss) to line the entire casket in pink satin fabric. The family was really happy with how it turned out and it was a cool little moment for me as a funeral apprentice.

What a gorgeous coffin! I can certainly understand the general creepy vibe some people would feel as well. I own a Gleason child’s cooling table. A super rare find. When I first decided to use it as a coffee table, I feared anyone visiting my house of oddities would run for the nearest exit but surprisingly it has become one the best conversation pieces I own and it’s perfect in height and length for a coffee table.

I love it🖤 It looks spooky and chic at the same time. I use pet coffins for storage. I bought plain wooden ones on amazon and painted them myself. At Christmas time I decorate them with bows and put them under my tree so they look like spooky presents.😂

Hi Midge!! I collect coffins- yup, I'm weird! I worked in a funeral home for 10 years and have collected antique funeral items for years. I believe that the 3 6 on the bottom of your coffin may be the measurement of the adolescent coffin- 3 feet 6 inches in length. I have a "coffin table" too- I used a casket "church truck" for the base. It's a folding metal trolley on wheels, used to transport caskets during funeral services. It's great because the table is moveable. Can't wait to see your finished coffin table!!! ⚰️ 🖤 I have a friend who owns a crematorium and he supplies me with long casket handles which I use for curtain rods!! 👻😜

That is so creepy and incredibly beautiful!!! LOVE the hinges. Honestly, they look like vampire teeth…that’s what they remind me of. It looks so great and that gorgeous rich color gives it such a cozy home you feel. LOVE IT!!

Very cool coffee table. My Grandfather owned a Mortuary around the time your coffin came from. SUGGESTION.. You could easily put a Satin lining in the bottom & top. Just , either hot glue it directly around the edges or use stackable Velcro all around the edges. Using the Velcro lets you remove and Wash the liner, if needed. Hot glue should not damage the ⚰️, if you just use regular hot glue. Don't use Gorilla glue. Any hot glue should peel off easily if you want later. The Peel and Stick Velcro could be warmed slightly, with a hair dryer, and removed from the coffin also, if you want to later. You need a bouquet of roses or lilies to make it authentic. LOL.

So my husband recently bought back an old family farm and we’re in the process of moving into the farm house. I just found out because it’s in a very rural area, like 100 years ago, the community used to use this very large house as a funeral home where they’d hold wakes. It’s kind of a cool story, but it also kind of freaks me out lol. I’ve started decorating in a Victorian/gothic style in one half of the house and this table is amazing and I kind of want one now.

I make the same kind of mistakes sometimes with spacial things. One time I measured a board for a shed, cut it, put it up, thought I had cut it too long because of where the end stuck out, cut it shorter to fit, only to realize I had not been starting it in the right place and it was the correct length all along 😂

It's beautiful and sad at the same time. I knew you had gotten a coffin but until now I never commented. I truly love antiques and real history related objects. I opened a small shop called Antiques & More. I had it running until covid...much like other small businesses, it took a hit...it happens. I have so much halloween items of my own and I love them too. It would be hard, while I love the coffin coffee table idea to have a child one, seeing it would instantly make me think of child death. In "1966", when my grandpa died, my aunt had his showing in the house, yes, he was in the casket in front of the picture window. I spent the night there, in his bed while he laid in the living room, so I'm no stranger to seeing a casket in the living room...yup, true story. I do love watching what you do with your decorations.
