The more I listen to this song the more it enslaves my deepest feelings of agony. Mr. Pringle's operatic gestures enhance the experience of hollow emptiness evoked by this 17th century opera.
The first time I have ever heard the song done in a non-operatic / art-song way that worked at all - in this case, brilliantly. I might even be able to excise Sting's abomination from my mind if I watch this one a few more times (I like Sting, but we all have a stinker or two in our back catalogue). The keyboard added little to the sound for me, but the physical relationship with it shaped the vocal performance really nicely. Lovely.
This is my second favorite rendition of this aria - the first place being the late Klaus Nomi's version. This one is understated but beautifully done, really conveying the air and feeling of the frozen winter spirit. At times you can almost hear the snowflakes and icicles singing in the background. Bravo, sir, and thank you.
Wow. what a tour de force of sounds and voice! quite spellbinding! i thought i was feeling winter's chill before listening, but now, oh so very cold! Beautiful and powerful indeed, and great to see a new video. Thank you very much, and please stay warm!
Henry Purcell - The Cold Song What power art thou? Who from below Hast made me rise? Unwillingly and slow From beds of everlasting snow! See'st thou not how stiff And wondrous old? Far unfit to bear the bitter cold... --- I can scarcely move Or draw my breath I can scarcely move Or draw my breath Let me, let me Let me, let me Freeze again... Let me, let me Freeze again to d**h!
What a treasure you are Mr. Pringle! Please, have you ever performed the epic of Gilgamesh in its entirety? I dearly wish to hear You! Or any more of Beowulf? Or the Vampire Prayer? Those are some my favorites. You sir, are amazing!!!!
I would so like to touch this instrument. Its sound is incredibly and beautifully hollow. I suspect that playing it would be like licking ice. Truly, my ears are fascinated. Perhaps you could direct me to some plans of the instrument so I can understand it better?
