The Collins Kids & the Ragtime Wranglers - The Rocking Gypsy Live at the Rockabilly Rave Camber UK - 21 june 2008. Thanks Jerry for booking us. Thanks Denise for filming.
These 2 are the greatest! Everyone that sees this post it up everywhere to everyone world wide, help them get total fame everywhere!! Do it! They should have sold zillions of records it is never too late for them to get the recognition they deserve.
You really see the influence he had on Dick Dale and the origins of surf music, let alone punk rock a couple of generations later.... Amazing. One of the most underrated players of all time. He should be in the R&R HOF
@Normanacree Id have to say his musical ability stayed constant n maybe got better , but showmanship has taken a dive from when he was a did! Lol! According to that film piece !
Lousy promotion from their record label in the 50s for one thing. Mitch Miller at Columbia signed them, but believed if he ignored rock and roll long enough it would go away (it didn't). As a result, their records were not pushed to radio all that hard and without the airplay, records don't get sold. Thus their audience was somewhat limited to the regionally syndicated show "Ranch Party" on which they were regulars. That largely West Coast regional audience was all the promotion they really got.
The Collins Kids are beyond phenomenal, they are also, in my opinion, proof of the "Mandela Effect." I was born in 1953, I am part of the RnB, Rock n Roll, Woodstock gen, and I never heard of the Collins Kids until 2022, (WTF?). AND I am not the only OG that has just discovered that Larry was playing Johnny be Good at least 2 years before Chuck Berry,l. RIP Kids.
its sad how the best get left out of the major acts fame this guy is so underated it makes me sick there are major acts who cant shine this guys shoes //Charlie cap rockabilly guitarist on you tube
Where, WHERE have the Collins Kids been hiding?? Maybe in The Wayback Machine . . . That Cat can play!! Love the retro rock/ classical guitar sound 🙏🇺🇸
"Some kid in the fifties played one of those" says a viewer next to me that was corrected fast. Hail Hail Rock n Roll - The Collins Kids got it body and soul.
Just seen these kids back in 1958 video and was wondering what ever happened to them, then came across this video.. Glad to see that they are still in music.. I can't believe how great he was at a young age..
Underated much? Both Larry and Laurie. When she sings "Another Man Done Gone", to me it keps up with Wanda Jackson and Patsy Cline. So damn sensual and guttural in a soulful sense.
Like others didn,'t hear bless laurieof them until afew days.ago only because laurie died ,what a shame.hopefully keeps rocking away.amazing video story this week.
Some kinda fate we live in when the very most talented somehow because of an industry ...just fade away! For me, The Collins Kids were so good that they need to always be remembered as the BEST and BRIGHTEST stars of their time. I know Lorries went from here now but I'd sure like to meet Larry or maybe catch a Live Ranch Party show somewhere in the mysterious Universe one day.
If only The Collins Kids had better management and better promotion they might have become one of the biggest rockabilly / rock and roll acts during the 1950s...Larry and Lorie Collins were performing on television long before Elvis and Carl Perkins ever did and Chuck Berry got his idea for the duck from watching Larry Collins on stage.......
AMAZING. they were playing before I was born, and I’m 65. Why didn’t they get more recognition??? The music industry is like the Communist Party. They pick some bad acts, and ignore some GREAT ONES 😞
I think you missed these moments. Every show I played with him and every show I saw him playing he used the upper neck. Mostly with instrumentals like "Hurricane" or "Flying Fingers".
He idolized Joe Maphis who mentored him. Joe had that same Mosrite Double neck Guitar. The top neck is a octave above a regular tuned guitar the one on the bottom neck.
Larry Collins Roy Clark Glen Campbell Are as good as anyone who ever played a guitar I think ROY CLARK is the greatest of all he could play any thing with strings you had to see it to believe it how good he was any how that’s my unpinning from the land down under
Now I would love to see him and Eddie Van Halen setting jam that would have been cool but right now they're both jamming together with the big man upstairs😊
Sure, Dick Dale mentioned Larry Collins as one of his insprirations. And for sure more country guitarists' tremolo licks inspired sixties musicians that looked a little further for musica feeds. The West-coast had been the centre of the country music scene way long before Nashville so digging the top records was easy early sixties.
I can not understand why they ever had all these other guitarists standing around all the time! No need for it. All they need is Lorrie and Larry on guitar and vocals, and bass and drums. They had the same thing in the 1950's, about 4 or 5 guitars for no real reason. I dont get it. By the way, did Lorrie ever play lead at all, or just rhythm?
I totally agree that Larry and Lorrie could handle the show with just a drummer and bass player. But remember... those days were the days of exploring live sessions for TV. Watch adjusting height of the microphone during a live song of Eddie Cochran, artists being camera shy, weird unlogic camera moves etc.At Ranch Party or Town Hall Party most of the time the host band was backing the guests. So with Larry and Lorrie there was a backing band so with them extra guitar player. One of the pickers in the host band was Joe Maphis, Larry's tutor. Check out the instrumentals they play together... some of the best guitar duets you will ever see.At more recent concerts, with the Ragtime Wranglers or Deke Dickerson backing them up, just one extra guitar gives Larry a solid base and freedom and I am sure this adds more to the show.Sometimes the Ragtime Wranglers and Deke Dickerson ended up on stage with them but that would be for one or two songs in a 1 hour set.
@@rockandrollguitar JOE MAPHIS is the MANNN! He is the king all this kind of music thing like this. He can play any string instrument I saw some videos of that! Everyone should know about these guys!
Well they had to have those bodies for backup as ppl to clap hands in the background lol! Sort of extras I guess just in case one of Lorries or Larry's strings got broken! Lol!
Holy Shake Rattle and Roll. Classical Gas! The reason we're all tuning in at once is The Collin Kids have enjoyed thier fame and have remained authentic to thier work. You can't fake real talent. WOW!
I didn't discover him until earlier this year! Amazing life both of these Collins kids had, but that guitar player is one of the best. I can't believe hes not in the ranks of other great ones like Eric Clapton Stevie Ray Vaughan Jimmy Page.
🎉I had the HONOR at Viva Las Vegas in the mid 2000's to see them. After the show, I stood in a relatively small line to say hello to them. Lorrie said, "I saw you down below watching me sing that song so intently." To my surprise she hugged me and kissed my right cheek! My then girlfriend hit the roof of jealously! Then I went to talk to Larry. He was so impressed how I remembered him and his show, "Town Hall Party" and how he jumped all around while he played. Larry and I ended up talking guitars, and music while smoking cigarrettes together for at least 20 minutes. Very memorable! God bless them. RIP Lorrie...thank you for the music and that kiss.❤
Wow he slowly died down on the dancing but his guitar playing is still awesome. Incredible. I still can't believe I've never heard of him he's awesome. he's one of the best guitarist I've ever heard.
@@thomwessels2281He’s far better than this little clip shows. He came up under the guidance of Joe Maphis, “ The King Of The Strings”. Watching many other videos, you get a better sense. He was also a Song writer. His biggest was: “Your The Reason God Made Oklahoma, “and co-wrote “Delta Dawn”. 📻😁
I am slightly younger than him and his sis. I have been playing guitar since 1957. I have fronted bands and do solo gigs to this day and.... amazingly only heard of them recently. Great talents.
It is good to meet you, Mr. McKay. Your 1992 Hong Kong performance of Pretty Woman was great! Loud and extended as Mr. Orbison played it live. Who were your band members? That bass man really had it down that day.
@@cmintsurfer As is often the case, time erases memory cells. Drummer Anthony, Bass John, lead Richard. I am still playing gigs every week but mostly solo now.
It is sickening to know that Taylor Swift is a billionaire because so many sheep follow her smoke and mirrors straight to Beelzebub, and this guy, and his sister Lorrie (God rest her) have actual talent to play music, and are barely known by comparison.
