In this tutorial video Dominique explains how the type of video light you use affects color rendering. The video starts with a color rendering measurement of the sun and tungsten lights, two industry standards. The video goes on to measure HMI, Kino-Flo fluorescents, LED, plasma, and even bulbs from the hardware store. In each case the spectrum and color rendering is measured using the Sekonic C-700 spectrometer.

OMG! What I'd LOVE to see is if you compared various types oh home lights with exactly the same methodology. Like some old, sub-80 LEDs, then the regular 90CRI ones and then the 95CRI ones.

Thank you very much for making this video, spectrometers are expensive and I wanted to se a comparison like that for a long time! its impressive how tungsten is superior at color!

This was an amazing video. I would love to see a tutorial of how different lights and their temperature+CRI are applied for different cinematic context or effect!

This is a cool video. I wish I had that color meter so I could read GE Reveal HD+ bulbs and other high CRI LEDs.

5:50 What are the "home hardware store" brands/model of theses LED and CFL? It would be nice to have that same analysis with the best CRI lights available in a hardware store (instead of only the cheap/average version).

Thank you for the well informative video. Sekonic C-800: How to add new Memory Data to a pre-existing Memory Title other than the last one created? All newly saved memory data seem to end on the last created Memory Title. This is regardless of the selection on the Memory Title folder. Selecting and Recalling a Memory Title doesn't work for this feature. I tried the C-800 Utility on macOS, but it doesn't allow copying and pasting memory data in any tabs. The User Manual doesn’t address adding new Memory Data to a pre-existing Memory Title. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sekonic C-800 F/W 20-11-11 (860B)

I've looked at a few videos on this topic. This one is THE BEST! The Spectral graphs and Charts were especially helpful. I'm adding this video to my list of Watch Again and for training. (:>)

A Kino Diva is not the same as a 4x4 with larger lower watt tubes. Would love to see comparison.

Best video ever about CRI! What about using a CBT Gel in the tungsten light? How would be the spectrum? Spiky or it could equalize the spectrum and bring more blue in a friendly way, no spiky manner?
@Video-Gear
@Video-Gear 5 лет назад
Great question. I will say that although the spectrum would be consistent with the original light of tungsten, you are going to see a huge decrease of intensity and quantity of light when you add CBT to any tungsten light.
@JADURCA
@JADURCA 5 лет назад
@@Video-Gear so we can say that it will invert the look of the spectrum? And considering that blue light is very low at intensity, we're going to see the output greatly diminished.

I don't see any CRI readout on the handheld that correlates to what he's saying, maybe he's doing a calculation from a number on display and then with another in the manual.

The sun light the target was 3200k but the other lights the target was 5700k . That was the different in red intensity between other lights

Very informative video but has a very significant missing part I think. You don't tell us with which camera you guys shot the video, in which format you recorded it, and most importantly, what your camera's kelvin was (White Balance) as you recorded the test shots. Isn't the whole video quite pointless without you guys telling us your camera's kelvin (WB), am I missing a point?

I agree. But in this case, this particular HMI rendered these results.
