2 casual Conversations with Aspen Sheriffs Department deputies in 1977, Bob Braudis and Gene Flatt on Bundy's trial for the murder of Caryn Campbell in Snowmass (January 12, 1975) and his escape from the Pitkin County Courthouse in Aspen/ Glenwood Springs Jail. We bounce around a bit, but the conversation is for those that are familiar with the story in general, and I want to thank Bob and Gene for their generous time! Thank you to KUTV as well.

@@CaptainBorax Yeah, the buzz may have died down on the Bundy front, but It'll come back around again, it always does. And the stuff you have gathered and put together is truly unique. I've learned a lot that I never knew from watching your stuff. As far as other cases, I think you just have to go with what grabs you and makes you want to know more. My other case obsession is the Adam Walsh case.
@CaptainBorax

@@AlmostParadise_RK true true, things cycle right? Yeah I've read a little bit about that case his little boy disappeared from a mall in Florida right? And Adam believes that it was Otis TooleI think.. Man no wonder hes so angry, I would be too.. I am interested in 2 cases right now more than anything else, The Brookey Lee West and the Lake and Ng case.. Another lifetime obssession has been American organized crime, Italian Cosa Nostra and their associates or Irish and Jewish contemps.. That content is really overworked though and done well in some cases..
@AlmostParadise_RK
@AlmostParadise_RK 3 года назад
@@CaptainBorax Yeah, the Adam Walsh case is interesting. The case is closed, and Toole has been named the killer. However, a lot of people, myself included, believe he lied about killing Adam. He and his partner, Henry Lee Lucas confessed to over 200 murders that they didn't do, and I believe Adam to be one of them. Also, there's almost zero physical evidence in this case because the Hollywood police somehow lost Toole's car, so no DNA tests could be run. And to top it off, Jeffery Dahmer, freshly discharged from the Army, was living 20 minutes away from Hollywood in 1981 when Adam was murdered. Coincidence? I've read a little about Lake and Ng. Pretty vile what they did. And the organized crime topic is always a fun rabbit hole to go down. Lots a people with different connections to each other and such. Anyways, good luck on whatever you decide to do next. Love your videos.

Several inmates reported hearing Bundy up in the ceiling above their cells crawling around at night. This is well documented in prison records. Therefore, Bundy manifestly could and did fit through the underlying ceiling hole in his jail cell. For it to be purported that a jailer was bribed and let him out through the front door is completely unfounded and quite frankly preposterous!

One of the Ted bundy's cases that always called my attention was Caryn Campbell. The last month and a half I tried to get all the information possible. I found a web site who give to me the historical temperature of Aspen that 12 january of 1975. According with this, I thought that Ted Bundy must to have his car close and dont wasted to much time trying to abduct the victim because the mechanical issue if the wolkswagen got cooled by low temperture. This video give me a answer about a suspicion that i had if the Wildwood Inn had a backdoor where you can access fast from the street. Another great content Cap!! Thanks

Oh yes I think it's really likely he made contact with her near her room, And just simply walked her out to the parking lot across Carriage Way. It doesn't make sense that he knocked her out and carried her anywhere, way too many people shuffling around at 7ish in the evening. People in the hotel everywhere after skiing and drinking... He definitely conned her with some smooth talking, And walked her down that hallway at the base across the street.. I could go on in very needless detail about how I think that went down but that's basically my opinion.

@@CaptainBorax The Caryn Campbell case is one of the more interesting ones as there is still a lot we don't know, nor ever will know about the exact sequence of the events that transpired, so what we have is mostly Bundy's account and he was not only a serial killer but also a serial liar. Let me just warn you this gets graphic. I definitely agree with you that he couldn't have knocked her out between when she left the elevator upstairs and was walking to her room to be carried to the car, as that would obviously raise alarm bells. I read somewhere that Bundy was hobbling around on crutches near the pool (his signature ruse that he used many times before) struggling to carry his ski boots, dropping them every few feet while wincing in pain. Caryn must have seen him from the balcony and it's possible she might have shouted out asking if he needed any help. Now, Bundy ACTUALLY had a different victim in mind not Caryn Campbell, he was after someone else but that person wasn't buying his BS and he saw an opportunity with Caryn. This was confirmed by Bundy on the eve of his execution, claiming she’d called out and offered her assistance, which he readily accepted. Ted Bundy admitted he’d already selected another victim, but the friendly, kind young woman presented a better opportunity. Caryn descended a flight of stairs to meet him at ground level, and they walked together to the lot across the street, where he’d parked his VW earlier that day. There he struck her twice on the head, quickly rendering her unconscious, and stuffed her limp body into his empty passenger seat. The killer then drove out of Snowmass Village and east on Owl Creek Road, which was unpaved and isolated at the time. Bundy had chosen this area in advance for precisely those reasons. The VW’s headlights alone illuminated a path from the surrounding darkness. Bundy confessed that at some point, the young woman revived and spoke to him, just for a moment. He never elaborated on what was said before he strangled her. The killer then stripped and rolled her nude body under a patch of tangled brush growing alongside the road. The temperature continued to drop as the young woman’s form disappeared beneath a shroud of falling snow. Later, an autopsy would suggest that she may have still been breathing, even after he’d left her for dead. The coroner couldn’t determine if she died of hypothermia or as a result of her brutal injuries. The next morning, plows clearing the roads entombed her body under several feet of snow. She remained there, frozen solid, until foraging coyotes dragged her corpse into a clearing at the bottom of the ravine. A passerby discovered her a month later when they saw flocks of black crows against the bright white snow, pecking at what remained of Caryn’s face.

Roberta Parks, Caryn Campbell and Julie Cunningham are quite fascinating. It seems Roberta sadly might have suffered a lot. Caryn I believe fought back hard. She wasn’t abducted from the hallway as many think. I believe as Bundy states, he was on ground level by pool scoping out another victim when caryn came out of elevator she sported Bundy below and shouted if he needed help. They walked to his car. Julie is disturbing. As Julie and Ted walked together a good half mile together and had conversation. Likely laughing and possibly flirting. He said she even stopped to mail some letters before they reached his car. Mind boggling. I wonder if he debated letting her go. I think I heard him say once that sometimes he thought geez I might want to date this girl. Crazy shit

Bundy was always wirery/physically active his whole life, so he was loose and always ready to be mobile/cat burglar. No matter how much time passes since I first heard about who Ted Bundy was, I still can't believe that he would escape twice, with the impact of the second escape being particularly disastrous. From what I have learned, it seems as though Flatt and Braudis (who I think seemed like just the coolest guy; like a real Old Western sheriff!) had a real difference of opinion about what the result of that Campbell murder trial would be. Here, Flatt is guessing that he would have been acquitted on the murder charge but gotten some time for the escapes. In another video I saw where Braudis was interviewed, he was guessing that Ted would have been convicted of the murder and either sentenced to a life term or to the gas chamber; the latter of which would have become a life term just a few months later, as Colorado's death penalty law got struck down in 1978, leading to the commutations of all seven people on that death row, including spree killers Michael Corbett and Freddie Glenn/Siyani Funsani Masamba who were active in Colorado Springs in 1975 (IMO they might actually make an interesting topic for a future Captain Borax project should one be in the works at some point; among their victims was actor Kelsey Grammar's sister!) I actually loved it when Braudis said that while he opposed capital punishment, he would have had few qualms about exacting a little frontier justice on Bundy himself. It made me laugh! Was also in that same video. At any rate, regardless of what the outcome of the trial would have been (and I tend to think Ted would have been convicted, since he was apparently acting as his own counsel if my memory serves me correct, and we all know how that went for him in Florida), Gene Flatt had a really interesting theory in this video about Ted NOT crawling through the ceiling of his jail cell but instead literally bribing a guard and just walking out! Im actually wondering what you think about this, because while I know that the weasel dieted down significantly, that was still one tiny space for an adult human being to squeeze through. Really makes me wonder!
@CaptainBorax

Bob and Gene are really cool old school guys, and Braudis was really kind of a big deal in the Aspen area in later years. I worked up there and saw him around town (but didnt know him) as he was a local celebrity. It was really difficult to get him on the phone, but he was as interesting as I knew he would be. All those details about Fritz Kaiser and the cabin, the direction he walked, great stuff. I loved Genes metaphor about Bundy being like Frankenstein's monster running amok in the community
