Tom O'Neill spent 20 years uncovering the truth behind Charles Manson and the Manson Family in his book CHAOS. His research revealed that the legendary book "Helter Skelter" by Vincent Bugliosi was not only incomplete, but misleading. His investigations took him into the secret world of the CIA's questionable projects like CHAOS, MKUltra and COINTELPRO with the FBI, and especially lead him to focus on the possible CIA involvement with psychiatrist Louis Jolyon West, also known as "Jolly West." With his groundbreaking work, O'Neill exposes the true story of one of the most notorious and mysterious cases of the 20th century.

There are some people that have been researching the "Zodiac Killer" and came to a probable conclusion that Bruce Davis, who was Manson's righ hand man, was either involved in those killings, or was the actual "Zodiac Killer". What do you believe in reference to this theory??

And when you get older you will learn 20 years is a very short time and perhaps see that some people with more years under their belt can and will take advantage of you and exploit that weakness. Salesman and politicians have been doing it since the dawn of civilization. Selling the same snake oil under a different name every generation. Everyone that is young gets sold the idea it’s some new revelation, whatever it is. Because you are the easy meat. The realization of all this is what they call wisdom. It comes with seeing a few cycles over the course of several generations. History repeats itself and the pattern takes more than 20 years to realize. That’s your weakness. Don’t be ignorant that people will try and take advantage of it.

@@timothysmith8667 obtuse observation. One could definitely say that Tom’s book rips the denial that so many have in the belief that Manson in one month from July 6 th 1969 was able to brainwash Linda Kasabian to drive her co defendants to Sharon Tate’s house where she and Watson had purchased mda from Frykowski to burn them of their drug delivery ( Rousta). And cocaine from Sebring. Mansons group had been stealing and murdering all summer to feed the clan . Hinman, shorty Shae , Tate/ labianca- 10 lives including Paul Tate. Drugs were the common thread - either stealing them , selling , buying them, being on them . All of it had to stop and the Manson murders made the country stop in its tracks and that’s when our country as far as innocence died. Excess leads to self correction . Reading helter skelter at age of 12 in 1974 when the book came out scared the bell out of me . Going to bed , getting ready just after midnight on any given night made me when I noticed think of these victims believing that their day was coming to a close and about to sleep in their beds - the thought of some wacked out druggie with knives barging in slashing every person within reach for no reason . The story never sat well with me , never believable . Manson dudjj my t brainwash any one . No one can . Manson was a criminal and Watson was known to drug burn dealers - who they gonna call - the cops ? The mda sucked and kasabian knew they were getting a shipment in that night and with Watson decided to rob their drugs . Problem was Sharon made a run for it out the front door and Watson all hyped on amphetamines stabbed her. Once he did this meant death for all . They could leave no survivors .Sharon was collateral damage .

Great Book Tom! In Shane O’Sullivans book Who Killed Bobby, Jolly West is brought up with possibly being the radio man that Sirhan was meeting with. West was involved with Patty Hearst & the SLO. He saw Jack Ruby. Dig deep in books like Who Killed the King , James earl ray saw a hypnotist, the attempted assassin of Wallace saw a hypnotist. West was at the top of his game but their was more like West out their. Read the book who killed John Lennon. Russ Bakers masterpiece Family of Secrets about the bushes is a must Read. Another strange thing is that when the Manson Murders occurred Polanski was in England looking for a location to film a movie called the Day of the Dolphin. A movie about a dolphin trained to assassinate the president. In the nonfiction book The Search For The Manchurian Candidate it clearly states that their was a CIA doctor at that same time obsessed with training dolphins with hypodermic needles attached to them to kill enemy frogmen. ( I know off subject but strange) Has anyone ever wondered why the Author of the book Manson Files which is extremely expensive can’t find it cheaper then 200$ who opposes the CIA theory and Ed Saunders book called the Family because of the connection to the satanic church called the process avoids questions about Reece Whitson at all costs. Everyone needs to dig deep. Things like Manson mastered the highest level of Scientology in which it has been proven that Hubbard was in fact extremely close to Aleister Crowley who was working closely with the CIA for years. Even the fact that a big time la costa nostra (Mafia) member Carbo was very close with Manson is huge because the CIA has been working hand & hand with the Mafia since project underground and with Vito Genoese in Italy When Patton liberated it. The Mafia & the CIA again ran the drug trade together! Read Strength of the Wolf by Valentine. Labianca was a massive gambler in huge debts to the mafi. This rabbit hole is massive and these things just are not coincidental. Must reads are Acid Dreams, Operation Mind Control, Journey Into The Madness, The Search For The Manchurian Candidate, Cointelpro, The Secret Team, The Cult of Intelligence, The Devil’s Chessboard & Who Killed Bobby. I’m currently researching Jonestown & my podcast/Vlog is about to restart soon. Manson, Kennedy, Ruby, MLK, RFK, Malcom X, Lennon , Hoffa, assassination attempts on Wallace , the Pope ,Reagan by Hinckley ( friends with bush VP and former director of CIA after MK-Ultra was exposed) the connections are insane. Do the research the answers are there. Thank you Tom for your dedication, we look forward to the next book. In the CIA the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. They portray this image that they are constantly screwing up. That’s all part of espionage. You only know what they want you to know. Everyone should listen to MAE BRUSSELS old radio shows. She was ahead of her time and this was her masterpiece. She covered all this.

You can research it too, im happy that Tom is finally seeing some money for his efforts. He could’ve quit ten years ago just with the evidence that bugliosi’s helter skelter motive was BS. I think that since the correct people responsible for the deaths are in prison regardless of the motive . I’d love to know the truth as far as the sequence of events in the actual murder. Parent in my opinion was not the first to die, he saw something on his way to his car , frantically pushed the accelerator in reverse, ran in to back fence - Linda on watch swiped with her knife and this broke his wristwatch which landed in back seat . Then Watson caught up with him . Sharon’s blood is all over out front . Sharon was collateral damage .

A secondary thing about CHAOS that blew my mind is the fact that it was published by one of the major publishing companies. This has to be the first time a giant publisher releases a mass market book that factually debunks the old Helter Skelter©Myth and will open the door for others especially after the Bug ceased to exist and no longer able to (threaten to) sue the author and/or publisher.

Glad to hear you discuss hypnosis. I recently watched a video with actor danny trejo (machete, bad ass, dusk till dawn. Etc.), who told a story of being in jail, and meeting Manson, (long before Manson formed the "family", or anything else notorious) where they let Manson hang out, and granted him a bit of refuge, due in part to manson being able to hypnotize them to feel as though they were high, as if they had just smoke marijuana or even to feel they had just done heroin

He simply reported what he knew and didn't embellish the facts to get more attention. The book provokes almost as many questions as it answers. The info on the Jack Ruby's shrink in Dallas (MK Ultra Doctor Jolly West) was shocking to me. This cannot be a coincidence.

One of the most interesting books I've ever read, I actually got it originally to read the bits about Jolly West which are of course adjacent to understanding the JFK assassination but it told me a lot more about pop culture of that time that I was very ignorant on. I'm curious as to what Mark Groubert thinks about this book but a friend of mine just gifted me "Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon", this book seems very similar to Chaos albeit less well researched but there are some dots there.

Hopefully to be taken as good natured constructive criticism: these guests who know of the underworld, it would be good if you guys put the info in a contextual framework, otherwise the convo just sounds like names, dates, some associations, etc. I think it would help the presentation of this kind of info to sketch out things like "this was the backdrop" - "this wss what the press or official story was" - "this is what was really going on and my evidence of that" - "these might be the motives for Mr. X to do such and such" - "The FBI/CIA other deep state were wanting this to happen". I want to be interested or enthralled by the behind the scenes story, but if it just sounds like scattered notes of various bits and associations - it ultimately doesn't tell me any story and it doesn't highlight whatever facts or evidence your guest is trying to share in a cohesive way. Take a tip from Mark Bowden and try to tell a story. Thanks for your podcast. Hope that didn't come off as harsh.

Having a life long interest in this case, there's a lot that can be said, but ultimately my grumble with Tom's book is, on the one hand he doesn't draw any clear conclusions in the book and invites readers to draw their own conclusions, but on the other he often says he left out a lot in the book for one reason or another, so how, I ask, can we draw our conclusions when we don't know all he knows, has proven, and suspects about the case. I was over joyed when I heard the book was coming out, was delighted at the dot connecting that Tom did in the book, but then it just ends, no conclusions, no speculation about serious possibilities, and worst of all, no call for further action, like the full release of all government files on the case. So, I got to the end and just went, 'duh!' - where the rest? It was frustrating. I also think all that Jack Ruby stuff was a distraction. Focus on the fraudulent trial, the covert programs at the time, and links between the cult, the victims, the celebrities, and the legal malfeasance. Dragging up the other stuff just allowed people to cry conspiracy theory. It didn't help.

I must admit the 'family' was very strange especially the girls, in interviews now they say that Manson simply paid attention to them; he told them they were beautiful and things they were dying to hear; and they felt many for the first time in their life that someone cared about them. how that morphs into becoming a mindless killer is indeed a mystery.

Here's a thought; after watching the Nic Shreck interviews, maybe the reason there has been so little argument over O'Neill's book is the powers that be were happy to see him go off on a direction that lead away from the truth. Just a thought.
@johngerson7335
@johngerson7335 2 месяца назад
I don't think that any of what Schreck asserts negates or contradicts any of O'Neil's research, just that Nick doesn't want to credit anyone else's information as being as 'valid' as his. I'm also of the opinion that he doesn't really care about the "truth" of the matter other than as a vehicle to ride and profit from, whereas l think that O'Neil genuinely wants to uncover the actual truth(s) on the subject. It's _all_ plausible within the framework. Just my opinion...

This is a crock. Charles was and never has been crazy or under any type of control. What nobody understands is he was very smart. He knows very well how to manipulate people. There are so many people who've put that information out. Charles had a bunch of people fooled. This is exactly why people can't understand Charles. Every single interview they never just let him talk. Charles has no problem telling anyone what happened. But Charles has never said anything like this. You can count on using it if it was true. People shut him down all the time. If Charles knew anything like this he would have used it. Not to mention those who actually committed the crimes their Attorneys would already have them out of jail. This is all bullshit.

@@TheListOf I surly don't need to read a book I've investigated Manson for years and I believe I'm way to old for you to be calling me son. Conspiracy theories are not proven they are bullshit just as they were for the people who can't face the truth about a plane hitting the Pentagon? It's very simple I don't need to read about conspiracy theories when I already know Manson never worked for the Cia and he was very clever and knew exactly what he was doing. Anyone with a brain or has been to a interrogation school knows exactly what Manson was and the game he was playing. Either way I'm not your son I'd thank you if you would not refer to me as some young asshole. I'm a former decorated combat veteran I've worked as a security contactor for the government and was a police investigator where I kept a 85% case closer rate. How is your case closer rate and your investigative work with the government? I'm sure my TS security clearance level was alot higher then yours. Especially all the places I was able to go and see what's really at those facilities. Manson was a hobby of mine. He deserved to be put to death for what he did. The government is and was involved in many things that I know about. But as I was recruited out of Special Operations to the Executive Protection Detail of a former Department Head I can't talk about the things I saw and did. But I can assure you Manson never worked for the government. First there would definitely be a paper trail because a person like Manson has to be developed and reliable two things Manson surely couldn't do? Not to mention Manson hated the government.
