My marathon is around 5 and half weeks away , myrtle beach marathon do u think I need to try do slower paced 20 milers every other week to prepare for it I’m trying get sub 4 or sub 3 55 . Should I do 20 mile runs at around 950 paces or 10 mi paces ? I heard it’s better run slower than marathon race pace for 20 milers to build aerobic engine . What would u do 5 weeks out ? I got 5 weeks prepare
With 5 weeks left until race day, I expect you only have 1-2 cracks lefts at the 20 milers before the taper. You have already done well in the last many weeks/months developing your aerobic capacity on every long run. Depending on your goal for Myrtle Beach, you can either go 30-60 seconds slower than MP pace to gain experience with time on feet, or you can work on sharpening your race skills with some 2-3mile sets at race pace within the 20 miler. Thanks Bryan ! One last question when u did your 3 50 something full at myrtle beach , what was your fastest or last long run at 20 miles did u go close race pace ? Or slower pace before myrtle beach ?
@@SuperTreybo In that training block, I ran my final 20miler as an InvertPyramid. 6mi at 9:15pace, 3mi @ 8:45, 5mi @ 8:10, final 6mi @ 9:15pace. It was aggressive, but I wanted to test the endurance at the faster paces. My prior 20milers were at slower paces, about 9:45-10:30 pace. Unfortunately, a race in May became too warm and my legs burned out. A race in March will benefit you so much more. ✌
