One of the best things she's done before entering politics. A brilliant and unbiased presentation using historical data that has stood the test of time.
This lecture is the most insightful look into what has been happening to families over the past decades. She hits every major point with ease of articulation. She's brilliant.
From Coursera Public Speaking course, what notice about Elisabeth Warren's lecture is a blend of communication and performance. She moves within the continuum. I must say that she has mastery of the content and her lecture is insightful.
I'm an adult student that is sitting out a semester to find work. I got laid off before I decided to go back to school. I just came back from the Salvation Army to see if they can help me pay my electric bill (they will do that if you didn't know). I bought a bicycle yesterday at a thrift store for $20, because I cannot keep paying gas prices. I have not bought any new cloths for over a year, and the last thing I can remember buying was a pair of jeans for $8 at Rural King. So I love it when rich people say "you got to just learn to live within your means and stop wasting money on frivolous things."
You must ask everyone you know to vote blue, Biden has promised many programs to help the lower and middle class to live better conditions with essential programs providing basic needs for everyone. Healthcare, senior care , child care, better paying jobs. Go vote, it is still a right we have and we must use it to make sure Republicans will no longer have the power to take away those rights, along with abortion rights to women whohave reasons for not wanting to give birth to a child coming from a rape, incest or health issue that might take her own life away. 🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵💙🧢is the only way to vote to save us but also TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY.
Byron. I got nursing degree at 40 yrs old. Before that I couldn't make ends meet . Not much clothes etc. But having learned to live frugal now when I got a good job as a nurse I found I still go to a salvation army and find a lightly used quite good lightly used clothes. I lived frugally tilI I could pay off a house. I'm never ashamed of living frugally. A penny saved is a penny earned. They all add up. Dont give up all of life's lessons add up. Keep hope
Especially when they get rich by helping themselves to taxpsyers money by scamming the treasury with busineses diguised as foundations, charities and other.
+elfboi523 Actually the middle class is now officially a minority she was right. The war in Iraq led to the destablized the entire region Bernie was right.
+Uno G The warning sign should have been noticed during the Clinton Administration when the definition of "Middle Class" was re-defined as incomes exceeding $100k as stated by Bill Clinton. I remember his stating this. I wonder if people really understand what really defines "Middle Class" by today's standards.
Sophie Reed not taking anything away from warren, but this was not a particularly difficult thing to do for anyone who has been paying attention to what was happening at the time. Unfortunately, it seems we are headed towards another recession once again. We can thank market capitalism for that
@Laurent look up neoliberalism. there's been massive deregulation since the 70s, if you think there's been a state takeover of the economy prior to 2008 you are seriously mislead, from what it seems you're a 14 year old self proclaimed ancap/libertarian who's very new to politics
@T South If you like Warren, the you'll LOVE Richard Wolff and his views on Companies and Jobs moving overseas. He'll break it down in a way Warren never will.
@Bran Evans I realize facts do not change minds, so this is likely for naught, but: 1) Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare- this is from actual immigration lawyers and not Faux News. 2) A wall is a waste of money, as most illegal immigrants fly over and overstay their visas (like Melania). Planes ----> walls. American citizens actually living on the border do not want a wall, especially as it requires the government seizing their private property. I thought Republicans were supposed to not like that. 3) The pathway to legal immigration must be made less onerous (maybe not as easy as it was in Ellis Island days- i.e., "get on a boat while white"; poverty doesn't matter; no one would know if you murdered somebody back in the Old Country), but less onerous nonetheless.
Bill Clinton exports US jobs by granting China Most Favored Nation status. Congress/Senate export jobs with NAFTA. Nutter Leftist like Warren drive the cost of production in the US up to uncompetitive levels with entitlements.. Healthcare.. Huge taxes for Business. Don't wake me up til Warren's car is found driven off a cliff and a sad story is delivered to her family.... Idiot who couldn't balance a checkbook.
@Bran Evans Corporate welfare and other collusive capture from nonrepresentative leaders has, and will continue to, take more of your money than the poor ever will. Republicans gave over $1 trillion to the ultra-wealthy and the working class received nothing. Middle-class incomes are falling behind inflation. Do you get it? You are supposed to be making a lot more money for the work you're doing. The potholes should all be fixed. The bridges should all be reinforced. You should be able to ride bullet rail to the next state when you please. Your air and water quality should be guaranteed, instead of at risk. Are you directing your anger properly? Huge corporations are flicking your ear; you turn around; they point at the poor person; you punch the poor person. "You dishonor the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you?" - James 2:6
+GNU/LINUX In Europe, same as here next...there will be a more controlled situation,(socialism) applied on European and American society, just to couple better while WW3 goes on...WW3 will be way, but way a bigger issue, compared to what it was in the 1960/70s with Vietnam, and see how bad society complained again'ts the U.S. government in those days, so, now, our government is trying to prevent those in WW3...oh by the way, WW3...coming to a theater near you and me, starting very slowly in 2017, but finishing before 2064...sounds crazy right??...well, just wait and see it by yourself. Crazy and paranoid Joe, has been telling people this for some time now...the mighty Authority bless the U.S.A.and Europe on that mission...
One thing that she hints at - but which I have long proposed and wrote a paper about (though I had less statistics than Warren but childcare, housing, two cars and insurance were apparent) and that is how big business and the banks etc., took advantage of women's liberation by making it necessary for women to work - not doing so by choice and to stretch their new opportunities, for the most part, but out of sheer economic need. Money finds every opportunity to exploit. While the right used the issue to make women and men by extension to feel shame and guilt over circumstances beyond their control.
Read Runaway Inequality by Les Leopold and America: What Went Wrong by Donald Barlett and James Steele. 2 books that chronicle the laws that were passed by congress and signed by presidents enabling Wall street deregulation.
And the left uses shame and guilt against any woman who deigns to stay at home, create a strong family, etc. It is not only economic need that forces women into the workplace, it is also guilt. I know more than a few women who when not working, dread that question, "so what do you do?". Both sides use shame, and yes, money does exploit. Take a look at the wealthiest zip codes in America. DC and surrounding regions, New York City, the Bay area, Denver, Seattle, etc. They are all democrat strongholds. Money is democrat. Free your mind from the right left trap. That is solely to pit us against each other so we don't see we have more in common that different, and then focus on money and DC.
Closeoutracer, health care costs are already skewering the middle class. Things are a little better now than they were at the time of this lecture, thanks to the Affordable Care Act (💙 Obama), but they could definitely be improved further.
Wow, Im glad I found this video. This puts a lot of what's going on today in a perspective about the dept issue we have in this country. Very informative.
I'd like to see an updated version. I bet the graphs of debt and and cost of living would spill off the powerpoint pages. Things have gotten much worse since 2007, especially with the healthcare garbage that has been shoved down our throats in the past couple years.
I first saw this vid on RU-vid in 2007, sometime in the spring of 2008. My first thought was, "wow, in 30 or 40 years, this thing could really be a problem." Fast forward a few months later, and Lehman Brothers was (publicly) circling the drain. Dr. Warren was absolutely right, with one exception -- when all those moms enter the workforce, there is a surplus of labor, which keeps the wage scale down.
Hi Cllass, this is Lina; I think professor Warren strikes a middle point between performance and communication orientation. She delivers an economy topic where lots of numbers and facts and explatation are memorized (performance) but whe is such an expert that can deliver the explatations naturally, making pauses, intonations, clarifications that balances the presentation towards the "communication" style
My parents didn't believe in college. So, in order to go to college in 1975 and qualify for PELL grants and a complete student age package, I had to wait 8 years after I turned 18 and prove to the state that I was on my own. And I had to prove that my parents would never ever spend a dime toward my education. Somehow, I was finally approved. I'm bringing this up because Ms. Warren is assuming that genius students have a family that will do anything to support them. Ha Ha! I'm glad YOU DID Elizabeth but not so for many of us who just knew that college was the only way out of demeaning low-paying drudgery jobs but we had NO MONEY to go to college and ZERO family support. Don't forget about people like us. Thank you Pennsylvania for giving me a college education!!
+Patricia Leary and some of us in this same scenario (my folks' income topped $300/k per yr in today's dollars) had to take out student loans. After 2008 this has meant many are in default.
This lecture is from 2007, and with the exception of the onset of the effects of the Affordable Healthcare Act, everything is worse today. It's important to go through the demographic-set body of the lecture to really appreciate and have a vision for the far-more universal points Warren makes in the concluding five minutes. Worth watching, this was when she was a Harvard professor (I guess she still is?).
Kaizoku Mugiwara you're right- hillary is just a simple megalomaniacal beard. warren is an ENTIRE bundle of LIES who knows nothing but parroting marxist dialectic trash about spreading wealth around while occasionally boasting of her synthetic redskin lineage- she's such a success!! warren is also a much better hypocrite than clinton, having built a nice chunk of wealth flipping bankrupt homes in flyover country while being "consumer watchdog" to............... residential bankruptcies
postaltraining Can't use the PC incorrect term of Redskin. Are there Nazi Redskins, I think that is her family The Soviet Redskins. She hates business and seems to be on the same page with Obama, You didn't build that! She is more than welcome with the Berkley liberals.
I am old enough to remember when we had a real middle class. I can't understand why people aren't out in the streets protesting, boycotting Walmart and the big banks? Why let the super wealthy just have everything?
The issue isn’t big business. Big business are the RESULT of big federal reserve balance sheets now at 9 trillion and 40 years of ever lower interest rates. This may finally be coming to a close either through high inflation or a depression. It’s hard to see how they keep the Ponzi scheme going. Read the book creature from Jekyll island. Politicians and big bankers met to make the federal reserve. The middle class would be way better off if gold was used to force the government to live within its means.
My two middle class sons spend very differently. The older one is deep in credit card debt, bought a big fancy house in an expensive area and one very pricey car. He bought his house when prices were high and is now doing experience expensive remodeling and buying high price furniture. He has next to no savings although he is nearly fifty and should be thinking about a retirement fund. The youngest is forty and owns two homes, one big nice but not fancy one and the other a moderate home at a low price. He has a truck for hauling, a travel trailer so he can safely travel during a pandemic and a small car, all newer used cars. He always has a good size savings which he adds more to with every paycheck and no credit card debt. He pays it off each month before his payment comes due in order to avoid interest. He buys inexpensive furniture, much of which is lightly used. You would never know to look at it that it wasn't new. He did buy a new expensive couch for his living room and a large screen TV with Netflix instead of cable. Both have excellent electronics since that's their livelihood. They make about the same amount but their spending habits make all the difference in the world.
Her book "The Two-Income Trap" points out how it often makes more sense for one parent to stay home and be a full-time mom (or dad) rather than earn two full-time incomes. In part this is because of the high progressive income tax rates, job-related and daycare expenses, and the cost of maintaining, operating, and insuring a second vehicle.
Let's just say that the 1980's Trickle down theory that lowered the top 1% tax rates from 70% to 39% and bigger loopholes that benefited only them worked to create more jobs, we would have been drowning in jobs. Yet under employment and unemployment have been climbing to historical highs.
In 1980, we should have taken over the government. Reagan no longer had taken the best interest of the country. By lowering the taxes on the rich, he knew he was ruining the country. High taxes on the rich,is the only way that the capitalistic system will work for everyone.
This speech is between performance and communication oriented, but it prevails on comm. oriented one. It is not so much interactive, she does not involve audience so much, but it has elements of communication oriented speech because it is explanatory, it has strong diction. She uses words like "Listen", "So there was..."
As another comment, I'm 27, and I remember even when I was a little girl, riding in the car, or at least a teen riding in the car with my Dad, I clearly can remember thinking to myself, "How do people afford these things?" I don't know, I suppose I somehow realized even at a young age that it was going to be very difficult to afford these things; to afford a home, or a car, or anything really. I really feel that somewhere inside I just knew it was going to be very difficult. Watching Mrs. Warren's explanation has fascinated me because I simply want to understand what is actually happening, but in the wake of that I'm thankful for Jesus because he always provides for me. I feel very bad for these families, but without the Lord, it's just so hard and even impossible to make it. Even now, there's still some debt affecting me, truthfully none of which I have incurred myself deliberately, and even that I hope for the Lord to help me with because there is no way to do it all by myself, and it's not the Lord's will for us to live in debt.
In 1970 through 1995 X Mas budget for avg family use to be any where from $500 to 1500. Companies use to throw lavish parties and in fine hotels with bonuses and gifts for employees. But after 1995 I personally saw that declining. Companies stopped having X mas parties, exchange of gifts stopped with friends, now it is only emails and phone calls or close families getting together for dinner. Even the garbage collection agency noticed less gift wrappers in the dump. America is not the same like it use to be. It is because of out sourcing of manufacturing and jobs and Elizabeth is absolutely right.
Why the fuck is everyone discussing whether this is a communication orientation or presentation orientation instead of what she is actually talking about?
This lady rocks! I know she is telling the truth because I have been living this for over 25 years. With 6 children. One income. Always prioritising the soul of the family over the 2 incomes.
I believe that I like this speech better than the past few because the presenter has credibility, she knows what she is talking about and wants us to know it too.
Margaret W Warren is just another hypocritical progressive 1%er She teaches law at Harvard ...one class at a cool 400 thousand per year. Oh.....she doesn't even have a license to practice law. Warren claims to be Cherokee Indian ..... the 1/32 is at best flimsy. She admitted she wasn't even Cherokee Indian at all. Though she used her minority status to advance her career in academia for two decades..... early on in her ordinary career she claimed her false minority status in order to get the coveted harvard professorship.....,as we all know harvard was under great pressure to diversify. She quickly halted her false minority status shortly thereafter. The Cherokee have a big problem with her lying about her heritage in order to gain an advantage. When asked to meet with a delegate from the Cherokee Nation.......she refused to meet ...... still does refuse. She's a complete fraud and truly a bumbling idiot when asked to explain herself. Not racial purity police....just calling out a compete fraud who's career is steeped with stepping on anyone to attain her lofty goals. She's pathetic at best
Thank you Senator Warren, for this important, informative, interesting, and, even now, timely presentation. Our government desperately needs more like you!
Interesting to see the difference between now and 2003, isn't it? 15:13 We spend 30% less than in 1970 on cloths, 18% less on food, 52% less on appliances. And that was 10 years ago. Today we can only guess this has continued to go down since.
+Dancing Dark - If you'd really like to see how much we've progressed have a look a the CPI website. It adjusts inflation and cost of living. Put the year in you started working and what you made then. It's very interesting. www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm
pjamesbda Yes it is a little interesting. Unfortunately these 'calculators' rely upon the stats from OUR government. According to the calculator 100 bucks in 80 is now worth 287.... sorry just not so. i like the loaf of bread calculator...personally. In 1980 I paid 1.00 to 1.20 but in today's major chain that same loaf is 4.50 to 5:00 bucks which is apprx. 400 to 500 percent so why are the two so far off??? I tell you why, for the same reason the SS admin. for the year 2015 determined there was NO INCREASE in the cost of living what so ever and there for there was NO adjustment in SS payments to retiree's checks. Is this feasibly possible.?? ah NO. How these figures are determined are to support the governments agenda not yours or the truth's. In 1970 I purchased a new car. I paid 2100 bucks for it. A new car today does not cost the 287 per cent of inflation from your calculator even with the missing 10 years in the calculation. If I were to pay for a new car today it would be in the neighborhood of 17,000 to 21,000 bucks. and that's 1235 oercent increase... Wo where the fuck does your calculator get its figures??? It's like unemployment figures they are dependant upon who is currently looking for work and registered with a government agency... totally excluding unemployed that are not looking cause they gave up and unemployed that are looking but not registered with a government agency. Jobs created, how the fuck is that one calculated? omg it goes on for ever this hoodwinking... And I'm going to suggest something you will consider OUTRAGEOUS.. It is so you and I and Joe Blow will have children... 1. All governments are self serving. 2. All governments are dependant upon their citizens products and taxes. 3. The more numbers are paying and working the more stable the government. 4 Reproduction is the BASIS of the population the government is dependent upon. 5. Reproduction, the number one issue of the formula, is the very most important integer in the formula. 6. When reproduction of a society is theatened the ruling organization is the MOST threatened aspect of it. If you think your dollar is worth more you will reproduce. and if you think there is not a threat to your future but a surplus awaits you you will reproduce and whether you survive or not is inconsequential to the equation.
Charlie Hutch It'll probably be quite a shock (as I do the same thing you just did - and assume everyone on YT is like 25) I'm retired, and over 60. Yes, I have no faith in anything either. So there are no gov. stats we can trust...but I might be an old turnip, but I'm not rotten yet. I was born in '52 so I've done the same thing you have: 1952 Car: $1,850. Gasoline: 29 cents/gal House: $17,500 Bread: 16 cents/loaf Milk: 94 cents/gal Postage Stamp: 3 cents Average Annual Salary: $4,700. Minimum Wage: 75 cents per hour 2014 Car: $28,400. Gasoline: $3.00/gal House: $221,800. Bread: $3.00/loaf Milk: $3.50/gallon Postage Stamp: 44 cents Average Annual Salary: $40,711. Minimum Wage: $8.00 per hour Ratio Car: 15x Gasoline: 10x House: 12x Bread: 19x Milk: 3x Postage Stamp: 15x Average Annual Salary: 8x Minimum Wage: 11x >>>>> I did this in 2014 (hence the gas price issue) and that's precisely why - all things being equal, I think it has significant merit, and explains a lot of issues. After all, it was just 1970 we went off the gold standard.
+pjamesbda I did a calculator thingy on my gov page for retirement...it said I need to save 90% of my income to retire at 65 LOL! Good luck! That's not even taking in to consideration that when I'm 65 there won't be any gov pension money left. Life is a sick joke, lucky your already retired:)
after the crises, of all the clips I've seen of the economists and what have you, this is the only person making sense and being realistic and I want to add that all those so-called economists can kiss the boots of this woman
Hi everyone, in my opinion, she is communication oriented. She she is interactive. She is not reading manuscript. She is speaking with the audience. Ideas arranged very clearly. She knows the content deeply.
It’s a classic flip flop long game that the banksters have perpetrated against the people. Firstly we were enticed out of our original village/ rural communities where we actually had security in that everyone looked out for each other, we had self sustainability in that we grew and reared our own meat, neighbours looked after the less fortunate and we were pretty much independent of any government legislation. We weren’t reliant on banks or credit because of this or Supermarkets which allowed the baker the butcher and the dressmaker the candlestick maker to prosper ( but not to the point of exclusion from their peers or communities) We were essentially Unmanipulable untouchables and they lured us out of this stronghold position with the promise of wealth, knowing full well how they would let us rise and then take it all back leaving us in the position we all find ourselves in today, hello FLIP FLOP.......basically then at their mercy, unable to do anything to make money independently without a licence for this that or the other, and the most hilarious is how we can own land and have to apply to the local councils for permission to live on it ! What a joke ! Imagine how we would have prospered if left to our own devices by now ..................community ideology that actually benefitted the people............. The answer lies in the past around about the time of the books Lark RIse to Candleford. They said the industrial revolution was Progression - it wasn’t it was a degeneracy and they knew it. Now we must give up their original dream for us as it was a ploy, to weaken us, we need to recognise this and move back towards the independent, self sustainable communities we once had, but were conned out of.............forget cars, forget credit forget keeping up with the Joneses; the Joneses are a dying breed, we should abandon that ship immediately. Forget school places for your kids and all the indoctrination that is prerequisite to that, your children need you, and need to learn about crops and living in family based communities again......basically we need to regress back to when we were together and could easily take care of are own elderly and young and sick......................no more credit or inflation or pipe dreams for the banksters to manipulate us with.....
what too many fail to realize is that both the elitist liberals and the elitist conservatives are corrupt. both the republican party and the democratic party are corrupt. the elite, whether on the left or right, are pursuing the same goal; THE CONTINUED POWER OF THE ELITE! people haven't figured out what equalism HAS figured out - capitalism leads to big business AND big govt to the detriment of all of society BUT the elite! big govt is needed to protect the wealth and power of the elite. also, the elite DON'T care if we're dependent on them through business or govt as long as we're dependent on them. under capitalism business and govt work in symbiosis to oppress and enslave us ALL! this is what equalism calls Econo-dynamics and both the intellectuals on the left who support big govt and those on the right who support big business don't want you to see the world this way; as it really is. one side says big govt protects us from big business and the other side say big business protects us from big govt! THEY'RE BOTH LYING TO US!
I love that Elizabeth Warren is so down-to-earth, kind of dorky and nerdy and not "cool". She is so the opposite of a typical politician and I believe everything she says. TOTAL CREDIBILITY.
Coursera Public Speaking student here. I'd say this is leaning towards communication orientation, with the aid of a loose script. She communicates her ideas in an interesting, organized fashion, and the use of visuals really ties it together. Her voice is somewhat soft, but she changes her tone well, and keeps interest in what she's saying.
I am a Coursera student.I think the speech was somewhere in betweeon performance and communication orientation. She was presenting the facts with the help of slides and communicating the facts in her own style to the audience.Good example of the interface
I was referring to the way she said everything that she had to say. Not to the actual material. There's absolutely nothing funny about the collapse of the middle class, and yet she managed to inject some humor into it.
My god, I want a Warren/Bernie ticket. Warren’s advanced knowledge of economics and Bernie’s populist approach to bringing about change would be a dream. If I could only have one, it would be Bernie. Not because I think his policies are better but because his approach is more likely to work.
I advice folks to look at some of the You Tube videos on Hillary and Bill Clinton's background. I admit until I saw those you tubes and followed up with research, I respected them. But the criminality in their closet is enormous. Elizabeth Warren from what I have seen thus far shows someone who has been fighting for the American people and really addressing the issues that affect the American people. We need some one who is not just trying to charm us but to aid us. So, now I am attempting to learn all I can about Elizabeth Warren and hope she will run for president in 2016.
listen to what chris hedges says about clinton. they are both corporatists and you would be foolish to vote for them. clinton: -deregulated the banks -NAFTA -WTO -welfare "reform" so americans only get $133/mth -first democrat to raise as much corporate money as republicans -cant remember the rest
Hi guys , i consider this its a combination of performance orientation and comunication orientacion but its more inclined to a comunication orientation speach
José Vega yeah .that's exactly what i thought .at first i thought it was only communication orientation but then she was reading the survey and explaining it so it's a bit performance orientation
+José Vega i think it's more performance oriented, she has practiced this speech several times before, and made it sound like communication orientation. Performance orientation also because she is seeing points off the screen, and speaking like she memorised what to say.
EW is a straightforward, good 'ol fashion smart cookie who totally blows away all the midget minded tea party farts. A data driven breath of fresh air.
and a big time hypocrite just like bernie sanders, another reason why I Quit the democratic party and don't get me wrong, the republicans suck too, i'm a libertarian and a U.S. Constitutionalist. i'll vote for libertarian or constitution party.
The dem party is vibrant/strong enough to accommodate the desires of anyone who chooses to "quit the democratic party" because of eliz warren or bernie sanders. c'est la vie. it's a free country. we wish you well. sincerely
Nádia Santos I agree with you on Communication orientation. But I think she wrote the script for ears by using questions "what happened", "oh, but something went up", "tiny little fraction (using gestures)". The structure and content was so clear that it couldn't be spontaneous.
Bingcheng LUO I agree.I think she was really familiar with the script ,I can see it when she was introducing the information from those charts. And the script was wrote for ears .This speech is just great.
March Leo Lecturing using both slide and oral explanation but not fully connected to the audience. I would rather put her speech in the middle of the continuum between performance and communication orientation.
Nádia Santos along the continuum between communication and performance orientations, I'd say she is more of a performance oriented speaker who has just about the right mix of communication that prevents her from being totally performance oriented.
The introductory part by Mary Ann Mason is based on performance orientation where as the main presentation by Elizabeth Warren is based on communication orientation.
A better argument for a childfree lifestyle or for a single lifestyle. I (middle aged male) never married or had children. I intuitively did the maths.
coweatsman same here buddy, and I live in New Zealand! but I could still see the writing on the wall, now most of my mates who got married are divorced, huge house debt, paying out ex wives, kids education etc etc....I never wanted any of that, and for me it was never really a choice.....
coweatsman You are correct. There is NO place anymore for marriage or children in the Western world. Period. Both are economic and emotional disasters.
coweatsman people with kids who are too young for public or private school have told me that daycare costs about 500 dollars a month and so a lot of those people have at least one spouse staying at home with the kids
+psycronizer rationalization at its best.....good job glad you didn't reproduce...yes im insulting you...we definitely need less of those who cannot even understand themselves.
The speech lies in middle of being performance and communication oriented. The speaker follows a set outline and the speech is pre-decided with little interaction with audience. However, it does not follow a strict manuscript.
same thing as consumerism continues to skyrocket, we are debt slaves. When everyone shreds their credit cards this will stop. dont blame anyone but ourselves for being so dumb as to believe we can borrow from tomorrow.
Good comment Alice. You are right about people paying for today by borrowing from tomorrow. But it's not just consumers since the government creates debt which must be paid for by the average person. That debt is what is referred to as a budget deficit which takes some of your wealth by effectively making a loan you don't even know about and uses it''s value to pay for government programs including defence spending, welfare, and other social programs etc. The normal person cannot do this becauuse when they overspend they need to pay it back or be sent bankrupt and or to jail. When government overspends the normal wage earner suffers the cost by since there is no actual person named " Mr or Mrs Government" to pay the money or jail if they don't.
Lets not forget the defacto repeal of usury laws by the Marquette Decision in 1978. This faustian bargain produced considerable economic growth and allowed many to have access to credit, but in the end, it drove the lower 80% into debt slavery. Now having a credit payment is the norm not the exception and we are in a self-destructive spiral. No matter what we do to fix this economy, a re-instatement of usury laws nationwide must be a cornerstone of reform.
Tre Gibbs You are not capitalist just because you say you are. Capitalist is a movement and an idea. USA is less capitalist today than 100 years ago. Capitalism is about freeing up markets wherever possible. Not protectionism in all it's forms. The USA is too protectionist big brother and that is the main weakness. These ineterventionist protection ideas fall down in most cases and do not produce effective results. This protectionism relies on big government and big government stifles economies.
you are so dumb, people aren't consumerists consuming more on credit.they are forced to spend more on essential costs like housing forcing them to take on more debt.that was the whole point of the talk moron.
I would lean towards the communication continue for this speech. She knows the material very well and even though its meant to be very informative with the power point slides and charts, she's delivering the information as a conversation with the audience. Very effective and very interesting.
Warren teaches well. She makes her point: double worker families who have overspent on homes, cars and electronics and who are overtaxed are in precarious positions. The logical jump to the idea that government should solve the problem is what is silly.
I wish she would run for president. I'd have to get involved in politics. All us moms showing up to volunteer; it'd be amazing. Can you imagine? America CAN be great again.
I first became aware of Elizabeth Warren in the documentary "MaxedOut". I knew that there was something special about her and her ability to not only understand difficult concepts, but also an in credible talent in explaining them too. I definitely look forward to seeing how far she can get in the presidential race, right along with Mayor Pete.
Communication Orientation She tries to explain for the audience, to make sure the audience understand all the points. She uses questions to guide the audience on the point that she is going to talk about . She could add more emotions/stress into her speech so that the audience do not loss her. She could work on her delivery more
