THE COMING OF THE LOYALISTS
~1783~
With battle-tide against you,
With all the guns asleep,
You left your homes and country,
And launched out on the deep;
You set your faces Eastward,
Your hearts knew no dismay,
As strong in hope and courage
You swept up Fundy's Bay.
O loyal-hearted exiles!
Souls true to God and King!
Your deeds will live and blossom,
As flowers bloom in Spring;
You fought the fight of Honor,
You staggered 'neath the blow,
Yet homeless, ruined, broken,
You bowed not to the foe.
The rugged wilds received you,
The great broad wilds that glow,
Their fertile lands relieved you,
Where lordly rivers flow;
And there you raised the Banner,
And there it floats unfurled,
A witness to your loyalty,
A challenge to the world.
~By Rev. Hiram A. Cody
In memory of my Loyalist ancestors who came to Canada between 1778 and 1785, who with their loyalty challenged the world, and became the founders of a great country and a determined people.

It's like a poem based on Canadian asylum due to American independence. I heard that there were many people who defected to Canada after American independence.(미국 독립으로 인하여 캐나다 망명을 소재로 만든 시같습니다. 들어보니 미국 독립이후에 캐나다로 망명한 사람들이 많았다고 들었습니다.)

@@RedEnsign999 yes that’s right. Up to 80,000 people left America. The Americans didn’t treat them very well after the Revolution. That’s how some of my ancestors came to Canada.

@@KyleEricksonPoetry1617 This is my idea, but I think that if the United States had not gained independence, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana would have become Canadian territory today.(이것은 어디까지나 제 생각입니다만 미국이 독립을 안했으면 버뮤다, 바하마, 자메이카, 바베이도스, 가이아나까지 오늘날 캐나다의 영토가 되었을거라고 생각합니다. )

@@RedEnsign999 yes actually, there was some talk about that. In the 1870s there was an idea about Jamaica joining Canada. But it obviously never happened. Sir John A. Macdonald’s wife was born in Jamaica (she was European).

@@RedEnsign999 Yes we had some fires here but we are getting some rain now. We are following the US election very closely here too. Canada is split like America on Trump as Canada has become more and more Americanized, which I think is not so good for Canada. Some really like him and some really hate him. It will make a big difference for a lot of countries around the world depending on who wins (and yet in many ways nothing will change). I am more neutral on the whole. Party politics and politicians tend to be corrupt and hollow in the end no matter what. Countries aren’t always better off afterwards. Do you think so? I don’t know much about your country’s politics.
