Hey Justin, regarding 'favourite bassists' I just found out that there is an award CATEGORY named the "Chris Squire Virtuoso Award" at the Progressive Music Awards. Quite the endorsement.
Full disclosure - never heard of George Strait before you mentioned him. When It comes to Pop, Country and Rap, I'm oblivious. I have never heard a Taylor Swift tune - that I know of.
Totally right about sound quality and mix affecting the experience. I think with Yes the problem with those LPs you mention is that there was often too much going on and just the wrong blend of sounds right from the off. Organs, mellotrons and Moogs are very thick sounds... add in a busy guitar and bass and messy drums and reverb and it's a nightmare to mix. I I think back in those days they were just making music like throwing paint at a wall and hoping it can be fixed in the mix... maybe because the idioms we know now were only being invented... mind you... listen to a Herbie Hancock record like Headhunters and hear how clear and precise everything is.. and then later stuff like "Rock With You" from Michael Jackson's Off The Wall which has a whole lot more going on yet sounds pristine.
OMG. Yes turn the TV back on and put on some old VHS tape or DVD of some old movie from the 60's or 70's. Even 80's. If you need suggestions, I'll give you some. I know you're not a TV or much of a movie man. I too am a bit like that being a musician/writter myself. Bassist too Love your work BTW
I have not heard of George Strait either. I like that you do this, Justin; there are many other youtubers that I think it would be great if they did a comment section review too.
I watched your reaction to Never My Love by The Association today. Don't know if you read my comment on it. Just letting you know that Jon Anderson covered that song before meeting Chris Squire to form Yes. He made 2 singles, one of which is Never My Love. It's quite good and you should react to it.
@@kennethmckinney2532 Well, it certainly isn't Yes. But it is Hans Christian. Please remember, this is Jon by himself with studio musicians in 1967 at a cheap studio with a four track tape machine. I like the arrangement and Jon's singing. I would buy it if it became available.
