We, people from ex soviet countries KNOW that while we are looking at western Europe or USA and Canada but still majority of us can't believe what we are seeing and pushing that "Déjà vu" aside. I tried to tell to few people from Scandinavian countries and from other countries how it will end up and one Spaniard even called me an idiot, because bruh, what can be better than equality and fair share of goods among people :) No one was listening. The saddest thing is that our younger generation (almost all younger than 33-35 years) know that soviets were bad bud they can't identify, that what's happening now in the West is the same as it was in Russia 100 years ago (with some tweaks of course, for example, far less of violence, no bloody revolutions). Because in their eyes the West means progress by default (these youngsters created their world view in the age of internet and internet is filled with western content, that mostly leans to the left) and everything what comes from the west is good by default according to their understanding. Most of them even don't know that Communism is a western "product" that just was implemented in the East.
Considering real history isn't taught anymore, only a sort of "victim" history, I'd say very few people would know of this. People have to seek this out.
They were working on it for like 100 years now. The method was created and crystalized by Soviet Russia propaganda specialists in the beginning of 20th century. More specific details (for example, to infiltrate academia, institutions, cinema industry) were introduced by people from Frankfurt School (neomarxists) in the middle of 20th century (Long march through institutions) and put in action in USA. So what we see now is a result of really long process that was ignored by society in 70's, 80's, 90's and in 2000 it was already to late to do something. These days in the West majority of people up to 50 years are left leaning and almost all younger than 40 are communists though they call themselves by other names.

I think the same is true of both ideological extremes. Don't get me wrong, I am neither woke or a bloke. There is a mob mentality at both ends of the extremes that with propoganda and rhetorical appeal for specific issues can manifest into a shared psychosis. Ironically, neither extremes realize that often they have more in common than that which separates and divides them. Groupthink, belonging and identity politics (at both extremities) is what binds them to a position; not informed knowledge and critical thinking - this is what both sides lack. The potential to be influenced, thus forfeit their own capacity to independently or critically think (scrutiny, be skeptical, objective) for themselves. It's a real f###in shame. And I am all on board to woddle through the mud, one angry person at a time, trying to bring reason and rational thinking, meaningful viewpoints, engaged debate into the conversations where I can, when I can --- but yes, I am extremely frustrated with the lackluster of critical thinking, and real debate on relevant issues of late from even my closest. Interesting, I am a true believer of John Locke's principle, used and applied to most democratic constitutional rights and freedom passages. It can be summed up very simply... ARGUMENT vs IGNORANCE. (Bring it on, from both ends of the spectrum). I have to admit, Trump was a trigger to my grounded sense of informed, knowledge, science seeking reason, just as the wokes are as big a trigger to my grounded sense of reason and affinity for a good old fashion debate of differing viewpoints and positions; I'm flexible, but not stupid in the sense that I have no interest in forfeiting my ability to think, speak and seek for myself. For instance, I used to get really rattled by the whole right wing Hollywood rhetoric, thing (and I don't consider myself left progressive). It sounded more like mob noise than anything of real substance and meaning....at that, it was bundled in with some pretty other whacky conspiracy theories and cult like rhetoric. I knew there were real issues in there, but the crazy Q & 2 chan overtone's, too volitile to engage. Personally, I don't spend a lot of time, if any, being tuned into hollywood celebrity, entertainment, talk shows, Oprah's, Jerry Springer, etc.... I tuned out 30 years ago with some concerns then (talks me back to a book I read in the 1990s, and could really relate to then -- although, platforming Dr. Phil was the real kicker --- Carl Sagan's, 'The Demon Haunted World. I knew the shiet was manifesting then, and even in the late 70s, only 20 years after we got our first TV; The Sundry Morning Televangelists - wow. Take that after a night of partying. Anyway, however; the recent Oprah Markle interview had me introspect, in so many ways, my hair stood up. The power of this media, the influence...truly frightening......but most of all, THE IGNORANCE of the viewership that is so heavily influenced by these platforms spewing pseudo everything, virtue signalling BS - why, I didn't have to look beyond my own circle (youth) to see that the day had arrived. From a human behaviour and psychological perspective, the lot of them and the mechanics behind their behaviour as well as the corporate and political agendas is cause for deep exploration, dissection and real debate. What a case study, if there ever was one, ....besides Trump of course. I worry gravely about this, and will try to be the a voice of reason (for good old fashion engaged, informed, inclusive, meaningful, thoughtful, respectful debate) that I can. Hell, the earth was still flat in my Gramps beginning, the sun rotating around the earth in my pops era, Pluto hadn't been discovered until my era - we didn't get to where we are without evolving our science, education (informed fact and evidence based knowledge), psychology; the evolved human condition we so enjoy, our democratic rights and freedoms, are based on an evolutionary process of rigorous forms of debate - on every issue; political, moral or other. Our youthful generations, some seemingly willing to forfeit their own ability to critically think for themselves, need to understand not only the short history of democracy, the evolution of civil societies, political governance an structure, their own real individual political ideology, and the issues, at a policy level, that apply to them (Nolan's chart, or other), as well as the process involved in maintaining and contributing to society in a meaningful way and form (engaged debate). Democracy is a fragile state of being, which requires people be conscious for. Important share Richard....but might I suggest now that you have made a significantly important statement about the lunacy and dangers of following rather than critically thinking for oneself, that we can pull it somewhere back to the middle of the political spectrum as an objective starting point, and LET THE DEBATE BEGIN. I'm guessing that you are not yet 40 years old. In the past, we did not fear speaking out. Everybody understood the First Amendment. You could say what you wanted to say, and others were equally free to disagree with you. We all understood that silencing people leads to repression, division, and violence. Free speech was considered by all to be a social good. Here are two free speech incidents from the past: In 1964-65, students at the University of California at Berkeley protested in favor of free speech and academic freedom. In 1977, the ACLU defended the right of Neo-Nazis to march through the town of Skokie, Illinois by taking the case all the way to the Supreme Court. Skokie, Illinois, was home to a number of Holocaust survivors, but the ACLU wanted to defend the principle of freedom of speech. You can easily look up both the Berkeley Free Speech Movement and the Skokie Nazi March if the history interests you. It's been said before that we don't need freedom of speech for saying, "Have a nice day." We need it for speech we don't like. Speech is not violence, but censoring speech is more likely to lead to it when people have no means of verbal communication.

Propaganda. A lot of soviet people have understood that we lived in paradize. We were the most free people in the world and history. You have no possibility to catch it. It was not official communism. It was Russian ancient dream of universal justice. Stalin and Gulag were not so terrible as you were told. Some of Russian modern historians have the point of view that repressons had to be more severe.
