#thekaratekid #cobrakai The Karate Kid Timeline, prior Season 6 of Cobra Kai. (1625 - 1994) All clips, audio & images used in this video are not owned by me. All rights belong to Columbia Pictures (Sony Pictures Entertainment) & Netflix.
PLEASE NOTE: Part 1 of Season 6 of Cobra Kai has added more lore for the timeline, and it seems that would be continuing in Part 2 & 3. Therefore, I’ll briefly update this timeline in the Cobra Kai timeline video.
I love the Karate Kid franchise but what irks me the most about it is the misrepresentation of how they identify Karate's movements. For one, they identify "kata" as a technique. Kata is a representation of displaying a combination of movements. No one does kata in combat. The "Crane" technique was an idea pitched by Daryl Vidal, who was the semi-finals competitor against Johnny in the first movie, plus a fight consultant for the film. It's not a real technique other than it was derived from a simple jump front kick. In reality, the Crane technique is a watered down and modified version from the Shaolin crane form. It's mainly Kung Fu based. Wax-on/ Wax-off, Sand the floor, paint the fence, and paint the house are more than blocking techniques. They can also be used as strikes, given the right application. The truth behind that teaching method is really a Miyagi way of teaching one how to do Age Uke (Paint The Fence), Gedan Barai (Sand The Floor), Soto Uke (Paint The House), and Uchi Uke (Wax-On/ Wax-Off). They're all based from Gojo Ryu (Okinawan) and Shotokan (Japanese) Karate. Anyways....back to my main rant: Kata is not used for fighting! Lol ***Fun Fact*** The character of Mr. Miyagi was named after the founder of Okinawan Karate, Chojun Miyagi, who developed the Goju Ryu style, aka the art of the empty hand.
I always thought Kata movements during fight was simply a quick meditation to stay calm, focused and balanced. They very much use the wax on wax off, paint etc as strikes too, at least in cobra Kai you see it.
@Thomas116-m2n it's more of the mind set and over all philosophy of the users. They never make it that it's physically opposite other than choice of moves
The ending of the tournament really makes Johnny in Cobra Kai being bitter illogical...he says "Ur alright Larusso, ur alright, ur alright" then hands him the trophy, stands up to Kreese....so 30 years later he's more bitter?
Maybe it was one of those things that crept in over time as Daniel appeared to keep winning in Life. When viewers of Cobra Kai first see Johnny looking at a LaRusso billboard, he groans "Not another one" inferring that he sees these things all over town. Daniel's life appears perfect with his gorgeous wife, two kids, nice house, and being a locally famous car dealer still known for his karate. Johnny's life is far from that and it would be easy for him to think that Daniel has lived a charmed life since the tournament. It's only later on in Cobra Kai that Johnny starts getting recognition for also being a two-time champion in the 80s. Like wtf is that? I'd be pissed, too, like "Yo! I won a couple tournaments, too!! Why does everyone only acknowledge this little shrimps accomplishments?!"
Thirty years of life going downhill during which Johnny blamed Daniel for all of his problems because he never had problems until Daniel beat him. It's a cop out move but people do prefer to blame others rather than seeing their problems as self inflicted.
I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for not including the Jackie Chan/Jaden Smith Kung Fu movie into this timeline as i don't consider that movie to be a part of the Miyagi verse legacy. However, the writers in Cobra Kai season six are determined to make it cannon, they are making a huge huge mistake by doing so.
@@pavlow124Great Video Man Keep Up The Great Work I Love Watching These Sort Of Timeline Videos On Subjects Which I Love Including The Karate Kid & Cobra Kai Once Upon A Time The Tv Show Marvel Movies & Shows In The Multiverse Of The Films And Shows Star Wars And Others Outside Of Timeline Videos I Love This Video And Even Though I Have Haven’t Seen It All The Way Through Yet And I Will I Love It Keep The Great Work Have A Good Life Man
I think Miyagi lied about his age since it was said that he left Okinawa before WW2 (pre 1939), so it would make sense if Miyagi was born in 1920 if he would be 18 in 1938
I would have made 1 big timeline change , to get Daniel and Julie be brougth together as to becone husband and wife , with some match making of mr Miyagi . A great start for the Cobrai kai serie . The kids of Daniel and Julie will have huge Karate DNA .
Chimbo would not have learnt Karate in China as Karate is a relatively modern term. He would have learnt a form of Wuxia likely one of the Southern Styles.
@@pavlow124 it is ok, it came off a little funny though. but i sincerely appreciate the amazing time and effort, and great video together. this is great stuff
This was during a time I first used AI and considering the length of the video I was using it in all ways that I could. I still use AI now, but to brief or rewrite parts of my scripts, nothing else. I was careless then, forgive me.
@@pavlow124no no my message was a joke, im sure we both know a lot about the karate kid timeline regardless of using AI or not; i look forward to your next part of the time line considering season 6, have a good day!
