Thank you for sharing this, I'm following the story! I agree that in order to eat meat, we need to be aware, and try to not outsource, or do that the least possible... I'm guilty! Humans won't stop eating meat but we might be able to get used to raising our own again in order to make positive changes for our communities and the animals that will give, and sometimes become, our food.

We just put our first quail eggs in the incubator this morning, 2 weeks after building a chicken coop for our future egg layers. Our toddlers are enjoying something neither of us had growing up. It's so nice to see other families succeeding in their happiness! Thanks for sharing!

This may be a dumb question, but after the birth from the egg, don’t they need to be fed by a mother bird? How did they not starve until they were strong enough to feed themself?

No, quail, chickens, ducks etc are precocial. They take care of themselves from birth.

It's really crazy watching these tiny birds figure it out pretty quick with their food and water source in the brooder box. I usually grind up their food for the first week and put it on a flat lid so it's easier for them to get to.
