He was a bit of a fraud, but undoubtedly one of the most convincing and legendary fraudsters in halo speedrunning. I remember seeing him in the Guinness book of records many years ago, before he was exposed. I feel he inspired a lot of people to pursue halo speedruns and for that I’m sure it makes up for his sectioned (but pretend full run 😂) speedruns
off topic but noob killer roof did like 13 records in a row and kept the wr for 9 years in medievil speedruuns, people suchj as garish and nkr are insane tbh
Dude. The amount of info you packed into this is absurd. An absolute masterclass in research and presenting supporting visuals. I'm amazed by the effort and expertise shown here.
Something I wanna compliment that I don't see many people focus on is the audio mixing, perfect audio balance between music and narration (as well as good mic quality) does so much to boost a video's apparent quality and I feel like it gets taken for granted until someone does it really badly, so great job on that front as well
I used to speedrun CE Legendary like 10 years ago. The highest I got was #6 on the FG haloruns leaderboard and the time was like 1:51:xx or something. I was never any good but goatrope called me "rookie of the year" which is one of my proudest gaming accomplishments LOL Insane that times are getting close to being south of an hour. I still go back and do the old routes on CE for fun sometimes. Such a satisfying game.
LotsofLuck here - thanks for the shoutout. Amazing to see how much the runs have evolved over time. Great documentary! For The Maw, I wasn't the first person to open up both reactors at the same time, that strategy was used by most runners back in the day. I got a lower The Maw record by saving a rocket to launch the warthog over the end barrels and drive to the end of the level, which turned out to be faster than walking.
Ah, ok. Of the record videos I found you were the first but I'm sure there are some lost to time. The rocket thing at the end I just completely missed 😅
@@frogarchist No worries! You did an excellent job documenting Halo speedrunning. There was plenty of things I learned about runners who were before my time and afterward I stopped. It's a shame many of those old runs are lost to history. It's fun to see how much Halo speedrunning has evolved.
This, this is The love halo speedrunning deserves. Summoning Salts Halo 2 video was a massive disappoint to me since he only talked about the mcc release which skipped looking into literally every glitch and optimization that was found since the original xbox release.
Thank you for including the very first speedrun competition in your video. I remember buying a special video card that could record input from the xbox just for this competition. It was a surprise to see this and remind myself of those perfect days playing Halo all day after school. There was nothing impressive in my run compared to modern attempts, but I was a kid who had played that level so much in prep for the contest that my body started shaking during the parts I knew could destroy a run. You actually had nice things to say about my video, I was worried you'd tear it apart. Thank you :)
As someone who speedruns CE (not competitively) I really enjoyed this video. The history of how and when the tricks were discovered was unknown to me. Thank you to Burnt and others that helped create the awesome strategies used today!
Dude I never comment on RU-vid but the level of production you put into making this video is master class. Thank you for this amazing Halo content, so looking forward to more of your work!
Really enjoyed this vid! My only criticism was in when you were describing updated times for old records, it was basically impossible to remember what the old record was, so I had no idea how much of an improvement had been made. Having the old time and date next to the new number would be useful, or even some kind of split as to how much time exactly was saved.
Thank you for doing this, CE needed one in my opinion because of how insane the strats have become over the years. It's also cool to see how tricks from the segmented runs were implemented over time, I'm glad you realized their importance and gave them coverage.
This is awesome. It was cool to see some of the faces behind the names of the achievements. Please do another video like this for Halo 2. Both CE and 2 are so much fun to watch watch due to the amount of game breaking that goes on. I'm not much of a speed runner myself, but I learnt a few strats to get the the Goat Roped and Monopolized achievements, which was a lot of fun to do.
I remember Garish was constantly getting the WR for Halo, his runs were my favorites. I miss seeing him play the game. He also speedruns Oblivion. My two favorite games. lol
Best video yet. I didn't even check how long it was before I started watching, thought it was like 25 mins. An hour later and I was still hooked. Great stuff.
Awesome history! I played Halo CE, 2, 3, and ODST for the first time just last month, so it's really cool to get up to speed on the very storied history of this game.
I came into this knowing nothing about Halo Speedrunning, and left knowing more than I ever would've even expected existed on the subject - and all from one video. Well done, Frog! Bingeing your channel currently and all your stuff is very well made. Keep it up :)
I'm in the middle of my first HALO CE playthrough (yes, really) and watching these runners YOLO levels that took me well over an hour is strangely cathartic.
Whoa, amazing video! If memory serves, the Riptor legendary T&R record that lasted so long had a pretty nasty combat death, possibly on the Belly of the Beast fight. It's really crazy how much re-routing and refinement has happened over the last decade.
Cody Miller has taught me that to be extremely good at Halo you have to be extraordinarily bad at it on the difficulty mode the average player will play it at.
Great video. My friend and I had several of the records for coop times on highspeedhalo. It was hard to record videos back then, you needed expensive equipment like a DVD recorder or capture card to be able to get them onto your PC. Then you had to upload the the video files somewhere, youtube wasn't a thing until 2005 and even then you couldn't upload videos over 10 minutes long.
Appreciate the information and all the effort you put into making this. Halo was a pivotal game for me and and there were a lot of late nights spent in a LAN party with friends playing CE (and split screen Goldeneye, prior to that). I'm still working on the MCC part time achievements and every time I see a video like this it gives me the itch to go back and start playing again.
Excellent stuff, watched a few others before this (Halo 5, 4 campaigns ) but this one earned a sub. Suggestion for future content. This was excellent to get the full CE speedrunning timeline, but it was SO much info at once and difficult to track progress on each level over time. It could be fun to see each level get its own video, so all the skips and tricks discovered for each level can be covered chronologically instead of all levels at once.
You deserve a way bigger audience than you already have your preparation with scripting and editing is obvious and always a pleasure to watch easily of my favourite channels on yt keep it up bro
Awesome video! I would like to note that you talk very fast and sometimes numbers and words meld together I had to double back a few times during the video to understand what you were talking about. It feels like you are reading from a script but there is 5 minutes left in class lol. Other wise super awesome video hope this video and your channel blows up!
Me and my friend started Halo CE on legendary speed running when we were five in 2001. We would spend hours on mission four taking the warthog under water, killing each other, and spanking dead marines.
The ABSOLUTE FUCKING DOMINATION by GarishGoblin and his complete STRANGLEHOLD on the CE Legendary category is still so amazing. Dude didnt just hold it for 7 years straight...he also made like 50 improvements to his run. Im a little sad hes not #1 now.... but it was only a matter of time with new strats and people learning and trying them, and with such a large goal to go for.
Love how there's tons of stuff happening left and right but scurty is still just undeterrred and improving his keyes time for the 372th time. Absolute madlad.
This video is phenomenal dude! Reminds me of the summoning salt videos, you absolutely nailed this and documented the history of my favorite game of all time. Are you going to do the other games? I know that Halo CE is your bread and butter, but you clearly have intimate knowledge of the other games too
I used you be obsessed with trick jumping, glitching and getting out of maps back in the day. Really wish I would have known about the speed running community back then!
Old forums just had a different vibe to them. Communities felt much more personal and it's cool to see that Bungie acknowledged it with some of the achievement names.
you mean 343? unless im having a massive brain fart, i'm pretty sure there weren't any speedrunner named achievements in the original bungie games before MCC. i could be wrong though
Awesome video. I think it would help if you show the time improvement on the IL records because I'm sure most of us aren't memorizing the last time it came up. It would be helpful. Nice job.
Amazing video, thanks so much for putting together. I enjoy the speed running tricks but as these tricks became more about skipping combat I became less interested in CE speed runs. I find the most interesting speed runs to be a measure of how effectively someone can display their skill in a game while actually still playing the game largely as intended maybe with some smaller segment skips, not by skipping large sections of it. I think this is why my favorite speed run is still SM64 120 star as the runners actually have to collect every star and although there or clipping or tricks like that, they’re still playing everything the game has to offer and it takes a lot of skill to move Mario around throughout the entire game. Pretty subjective but that’s just me.
as someone who does some Halo speedrunning (my runner name is PrincessKickass) this video was amazing to watch! really cool to see the history of Halo CE speedrunning, have you considered doing the same kinda video for Halo 2?
