Same the duck has charm & mystique about him Psyduck is loveable I appreciate him more as an adult now he's slow to anger but when he powers 🔋 up his strength is amazing
You got it right, Psyduck paved the way for the random popouts by Jessie's Wobbuffet, James' Cacnea, Brock's Croagunk and James' Mime Jr. He is his own legend

Psyduck may have been rather high-maintenance at first but it's evident that high-maintenance doesn't mean impossible. Also, the fact that Misty didn't abandon Psyduck despite having multiple chances to do so and being driven nuts by him numerous times shows how good of a trainer and Gym Leader she is. Paul could certainly learn a couple of lessons from her.
To me, Psyduck was one of the best comic reliefs in pokemon ever. I actually thought he was better than pikachu because he gave more personality and laughs to the original seasons of pokemon, that I think he was the real reason pokemon was good to begin with, not pikachu. If Misty had trained him more and taught him calm mind before anything else, he might have been able to use his psychic attacks without getting a headache, and could have defeated pikachu with ease, proving he's better and more powerful than ash's pikachu to this day.
Mistys Psyduck is the sole reason I keep forgetting that it and Golduck aren't actually psychic types in the games. Spent so much time as a kid trying to get one, just because I thought a water/psycic duck was cool as heck. Maybe a regional form could fix this in the future
@@williamcothrum9199 I'm pretty sure that was originally the case, instead they for some reason opted to have it get access to psychic as an egg move. In all honesty, I don't really understand why Psyduck and Golduck (or at least just the latter, I suppose) aren't part psychic type
Back when I played pokemon yellow, Psyduck was my 1st pokemon to reach to Lv 100 and never evolved it. After that, I ranked up Gyarados, Tentacruel, Starmie, Cloyster and Vaporeon. Thanks to Misty, I became a water pokemon trainer and a big fan of water pokemon.
The crazy thing is, we'd underestimate our poor duckling as just a comic relief. No! Have you seen its victory/loss ratio?! Only TWO losses (if you count Misty), that's INCREDIBLE.
I've been waiting for this one. I wasn't a fan of how mean Misty was to Psyduck earlier on but seeing how much she cared for Psyduck in Sun and Moon really made me happy.
Ngl, I never watched Sun and Moon due to it changing stations to Disney and my slow transition to watching less regular tv these past few years, but it’s awesome to learn that it showed that Psyduck became a more competent battler. I always loved that troublesome duck!
Misty: -constantly hits her Psyduck across the head -never misses a moment to remind her duck and everyone else around how much she despises it -tried to abandon it at a breeding center and even hoped the Farfetch'd thief stole it during the episode where all of her other Pokemon were stolen -treats her duck like trash while loves on her other Pokemon -encourages opponents to strike its head and even threatens to smash it with a bicycle to unlock its true powers Not a single fan bats an eye... Paul: -constantly put his Chimchar into tough battles and training sessions in order to unlock its true power (via Blaze) -doesn't shy away from criticizing his Pokemon for making mistakes in battle/training -releases Pokemon he deems weak, disappointments or doesn't meet his high standards...better to let them go instead of holding onto them only to have them endure even more 'abuse' -Treats ALL of his Pokemon the same even though outside perspectives felt he treated the little fire chimp worse than his other Pokemon Most fans call him a heartless trainer, horrible person and Pokemon abuser... Double standard much? *Please save the comment(s) about how the Misty/Psyduck dynamic was played for comedic reasons rather than the series nature of how Paul treats his Pokemon...

I relate to Psyduck's headaches and inability to swim. -.- It'd be funny if it did evolve into Golduck and somehow became even dopier despite it's cooler appearance. xD
@@ProfessorAlexSilver I used to have to do that in school, kept nearly drowning. Though I did recognition as the "most improved student" even though I was still the worst swimmer in the class. I went from nearly drowning in the shallow end to swim back and forth somewhat slowly but at least not drowning. xD
I would to if I were it....imagine being a pokemon in constant pain,with an incompetent owner that treated you awful. And she IS incompetent in the early seasons...she wants to be a water pokemon specialist yet does not even bother to teach her pokemon how to swim?
It’s times like this I remember that, as immature as Ash was, Misty wasn’t too far behind. I’ll bet she and Psyduck got along much better after a “Calm Mind” TM was involved.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver Got the idea from a fanfic - soon after application, it redeveloped Psyduck's mindscape, allowing him to "distance" most of the head-throbbing energy until he needed it for a Psychic attack, and using the rest of it to speak telepathically. Then Misty brought up swimming lessons. _Er, I mean, Ow the pain the pain my head is aching._

Psyduck's fight with Cloyster was the first Pokemon moment where I remember being unable to control my laughter. Oh my god I think I love him more than any other Pokemon in the series
I've always found it strange that Psyduck and Golduck who specialize in using psychic attacks are water-type pokemon and not psychic type or dual water and psychic. Then you have a pokemon like Starmie that has 0 damaging psychic attacks but is a dual water psychic type. Starmie should have already been changed into the fairy type while Psyduck and Golduck changed into the psychic type.
My very first Shiny was a Blue Psyduck in Pokemon Gold! Psyduck was always the example of trainers having to actually train their Pokemon. If Misty gave it a fraction of the love she gave Togepi (who should be next on your list), maybe it would have evolved into Golduck! Never knew why it wasn't Water/Psychic!

I like your little savage moment and your comparison of Misty to Homer Simpson, I can imagine Misty going at the poor guys throat. Psyduck just tried to help in any way that it can, it’s not like you catch a Pokémon and you quickly forget about it, that’d basically be classified as abandonment.
exactly why writters never allow it to evolve its cute yellow pokemon that character well known for in case pysduck its funny. its why togepi got to become togetic.
I always wanted psyduck to evolve but still remain uncontrolled, clumsy and plagued by headaches still 🤣 Keep the same style but with him evolved stronger to show that misty can train more than a water type and show her versitility 💪
After seeing Psyduck return in the sun and moon arc I thought well looks like we getting more side splitting gags we have not seen since Johto, but when the battle and his introduction start I went what the f@#$ just happened for a brief few minutes they turn the series comic relief and the butt of the joke to a badass when it learned confusion without beating it's brain in to mastering watergun. But it still can't swim to save it's life.
I think it's funny that Misty would get readily annoyed when her Psyduck released itself from its PokéBall, often for the running gag of falling into the water, unable to swim....only to see her coddle it in Sun & Moon like Ash's Mom does to her Mr. Mime.
Psyduck was always the proof that for as testy as Misty could sometimes be, she was genuinely a good person. The love between these two was real, for sure. No doubt that under that vacant stare Psyduck adored his trainer. xD
I remember unlocking a Misty-like Psyduck on Pokémon Stadium which had the back then otherwise unobtainable move Amnesia. I'd love for Misty's psyduck to be an event Pokémon: unable to evolve, unable to learn any move other than amnesia and psychic, and capable of reflecting any blow tripple its strength after being beaten 3 to 5 times in a row. That'll be so unique.
honestly the constant abuse that psyduck suffered from misty always infuriated me.... she hits it,talks down to and insults it and sees it as completely worthless until it displays its psychic powers....after which she is willing to encourege more suffering at its expense to tap into that power. and what pisses me off about this is that (if memory serves) nobody EVER calls her out on this terrible behavior.
At least it seems like she stopped doing that, although it’s kinda weird how in the first seasons that seemed to happen with a lot of pokemon, Ash threw rocks to a Pidgey, dragged Pikachu to his adventure, and while you can blame that on Ash being dumb I remember stuff like that happening with a lot other characters.

Psyduck was always me and my sisters favorite. Ash and Brock didn't have any comic relief Pokemon (sometime Pikachu's voice acting was hilarious though), and I'm glad high strung Misty was the one to 'train' him. The Cloyster battle will always be my favorite because the tail whip is so ridiculous - but it always bums me out that we didn't get to see Psyduck finish off the Cloyster. To this day, still makes me laugh. And I fully plan on getting a psyduck tattoo one day (alongside Meatwad) to just give me a chuckle whenever stuff gets heavy.
Even though Misty is widely hated I didn't mind how flawed she was as a person, true I didn't always agree with her anger problems, but I also liked how she wasn't always nice, it makes her stand out. (I found her over the top angry faces to be funny) However her treatment of Psyduck in the first couple of seasons aside I always found Psyduck interesting. Sure its very dimwitted and is a water type that can't swim, however in some ways I think it also reflected Misty's own inexperience as a person/trainer. Considering her anger came from being considered the black sheep of her family. I mean when you see Psyduck in Sun & Moon she's completely learned to appreciate him and even got him to the point where he could use water attacks and listened to her commands. To which she's much more experienced.

I say that Misty should catch a new Psyduck and have it evolve into Golduck. With both Psyduck and Golduck, she goes around the world on her own battling a bunch of trainers Ash battled in order to become the worlds best Water Pokemon trainer.
I've been wondering for years,why was psyduck at the pokemon center to begin with? does nurse joy in that city take care of wild pokemon? or did psyduck have a trainer but abandoned it? I wish we got to see more of psyduck's past,oh well,it belongs to misty now

Psyduck is my all time favorite Pokémon - because of the anime. As a kid and as an adult I find him hilarious. I was always so nervous they would evolve him - so happy they never did! Amazing comedic relief at the right times - love that little guy!
I loved Psyduck but I hated how Misty treated it. She was always so angry at it (some of that anger not being warranted) only liked when it benefitted her and had multiple chances to let it go if it was so unreliable to her but chose not to and leave it in this love hate relationship. Okay so hear me out on this, I got this idea from a RU-vidr and thought it was interesting. What if Psyduck actually evolved into Golduck in that one episode? It became much more powerful and capable but also smarter. Misty loved this change but Golduck thinks about their relationship and how problematic it could be at times. This could lead him to not really listen to Misty anymore doing it's own thing like lounging, basically becoming like Charizard. Misty would be infuriated by this and they would frequently bicker with each other. But in time they would realize the faults both of them made and form a stronger bond because of it. Those are just rough ideas I had that I think would've been interesting to see. Overall I still love Psyduck and it's most recent appearance in Sun and Moon with how mellowed out Misty is about it. I just thought I'd throw an idea I heard out there.
