It also felt conclusive. Since Gens 1 and 2 are heavily connected, connecting the lore of the first two TPP playthroughs was easy. Gen 3 is far removed from the previous generations though, so the lore ends up not working as well when it comes to trying to tie it all together.
Yeah but I feel like the ones making the lore aren't the same as in gen1... everyone basically uniformly praised Helix back in the day, just to betray him for a mere overleveled starter? That would never fly in gen1
@@gogobrasil7185 Well, of course not, thousands of people were playing at the same time, it's not like we had a lore committee. Some jokes stuck, some didn't. My point is that after the Gen 2 run ended, many people tried too hard to start the next "big meme"
All memes and fads eventually die or at least go to the back of internet history. As the first guy pointed out, gen one and gen two are directly connected and served as an end to Red's journey from the first game. In lore terms, it is also the hivemind's end goal to beat Red because everything has led up to the moment atop Mt. Silver. Gen three is very, *very* disconnected from the first two and people dropped it because two gens were pretty lengthy on their own and there's no reason to try and connect the first two gens to the third without some crazy plot device that doesn't exist in-game as some sort of event. Then the newcomers took over and tried making their own sort of lore. The gen one remakes had great lore though, there were a few tpp veterans who returned and made Leaf, the protagonist, as some sort of revival. The gen one remake playthrough was the last good playthrough of tpp before lore became stale and outright shitty in some areas. Gen four was pretty okay though.
The lore of Crystal developed as a response to Red, which is kind of cool in a way. Many people wanted to continue the lore from the first game, and many wanted to keep it separate. It is essentially the meta-conflict of any sequal to any story distilled into its essence: how far away do we go from the first entry, but also how closely should we stay to it? In Twitch Plays, however, meta-narrative becomes narrative, and it made Crystal's lore about a team's struggle against expectations and controls placed upon them by more powerful forebears.
Is it weird that I actually like how the chat was more willing for Democracy’s help on this run? Sure, they didn’t let it have all the fun, but after learning their mistakes from Red, the hivemind became more understanding that in order to succeed, both chaos and order work in tandem
Just wanted to point out that starting yesterday (2/12), Twitch Plays Pokemon decided for their 6 year anniversary that they would run "The Gauntlet". The Gauntlet is doing the 6 games they ran in the 1st year back to back ( Pokémon Red, Pokémon Crystal, Pokémon Emerald, Pokémon Platinum, Pokémon Blaze Black 2, and Pokémon X). There aren't nearly as many people as there were in their prime, but if you want a little nostalgia, you can go ahead and check it out. They already chose charmander and the helix fossil again, so we will see if more of history repeats itself.
@@wadeconroy3467 I stopped watching Twitch plays pokemon after they released "Leech King". the first ever level 100 pokemon in twitch plays pokemon history, A Parasect, into the wild.
*sits in rocking chair slowly moving back and forth with kids sitting around me I was there I was there during the gator wars I fought to take down the tyrant That evil tyrant who refused to share the glory of battle We fought fiercely but in the end we lost We did not foresee that our actions would lead to the sacrifice of the Prince To many of us this moment surpassed the horror of the Bloody Sunday But his noble sacrifice did lead to the Tyrant giving us some successions And in the end we came together to forge a legend of our own
I was there for the Gator wars. I fought for Laser Gator, Prince Omlette's death was a death need not to have been made. But it was not in vain. His death protected Laser gator. i don't understand why so many people wanted him gone, But i am a speedrunner, so i am use to having a team of one overleveled pokemon.
@@HogW1ld385 I guess that battles were boring to watch when he kept sweeping, but alas, i think I preferred the lore that followed Twitch Plays Pokemon as opposed to the actual gameplay.
Bryan Lariviere true the lore is good but a couple things to think about First a lot of us felt that the lore was being forced to exist rather than developing naturally like the first time. Most of the lore from the first didn’t even really start until Abby was released. But here people were immediately trying to impart significance to everything right away. Second, a lot of us felt that Gator was preventing a lot of lore from being created. (Plus yes the easy battles were boring) Togepi could have been Crystals version of Helix if he had ever been given the opportunity to be used and evolved. But Gator was the constant dominance that quashed a lot of opportunity
Thank you so much, it was such a shame that so many people dropped TPP after the original Red run, I think you're pretty much the first people to make a well made video about another run's lore (and Crystal is my personnal favoutite :) )
YES ALL MY WANT. I honestly only discovered your first history of twitchplayspokemon about a week ago, and I was kind of disapointed there was only a history of the gen. 1 game. Few days later and this suddenly pops up in my recommended vids. I would love to see you guys do one of these for all the generations ^^
huh, didn't think this one would get a video too. I pretty much religiously rewatch your Twitch plays Pokemon Red video so when I saw the thumbnail of this one, everything else needs to take a back seat.
I love Eevee and hearing about one poke beating everyone is boring so I guess my sides are picked for me The whole anarchy system would have driven me away but the story as a whole is fun, so I'm glad these videos exist. I wouldn't mind hearing a recap on all of the twitch plays pokemon stories also more stream footage please I prefer that to the other stuff
I finished watching both videos on pokémon red, and I'm now eagerly awaiting the conclusion to pokémon crystal. You all did a great job on these videos :3
I’m glad you uploaded this. I missed the Pokémon Red play through, but I was there for some of the Pokémon Crystal play through. We were stuck outside the cave for a good while is all I remember.
THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR THIS!! I've been having a hard time lately. I really enjoyed your twitch plays Pokemon red vid, and it also helped me through a hard time. So thanks. I hope you all feel proud of your hard work.
Not really surprised the Totodile line basically carried this run. That line is Busted in Gen 2. Apparently so Broken, that that not even a hivemind that was actively trying to get rid of it worked.
What an ingenious move by the anti gator movement to take their first action by trying to deposit him right when surf was required to progress the game. Who could have foreseen that people would be interested to retrieve him back from the pc under these circumstances?
@@gogobrasil7185 To whom? From what I can tell the only Pokemon they had gotten at that point who could have learned it were the Sentret, who was released and Wooper who was deposited alongside the Gator.
