"History" Channel just does oak island "treasure" and ancient alien shows most of the time. Sadly, my boomer parents actually like to watch those shows. I actually prefer important historical information on events and people that can by backed up by actual quotes, interviews, and documents, and real people like this youtube video is doing so far. This is my first time watching this channel.
The biggest flaw in Franco was his choosing of one of the most liberal members of the bourbons to replace him which failed to create a lasting legacy that would survive his death.
The current regime blaming Franco for everything they have destroyed after his death and desecrating his remains is not only beyond disgusting and evil, but so petty and spiteful decades later.
His forgiveness and caution were a double edged sword. On one hand, it allowed his government to survive past 1945. On the other, it hampered him when it came time to actually deal with his enemies effectively.
I think I’m right there with you. A man who did not rest until the ideology of the enemy was eradicated, or until it’s adherents were too afraid to admit it. Zero half measures from that man.
As a spaniard, i want to say you thank you for make a video of the old caudillo without the lies, disrespect and hate to history that many red spanish parties have nowadays. If i can give you some ideas if you want continue with a spanish serie, i recommend you do a video about Primo de Rivera and how Argentine help the spanish people after ww2 when no one did it to us. thank you again Zoomer ☺️
@ProtectTransKids. Well, i'm from Spain and we love animes a lot hermano. In your case, you would love try to disturb me or think i'm a right or conservative dumb person like you must think of your useños conservatives. But you are wrong, i found funny your try of say you are based hermano with your name tag 😅.
The Caudillo did plenty of bad, especially when you consider his purges and the repression he kept up until death (though to be fair he did ease up later after the Krauts croaked)
@@rileygladue3979 Negrin and Caballero were 100x worse than El Caudillo. George Orwell in his book about his experience in Cataluña wrote a lot about the purges in the republicans. Beevor lack in his book about the Civil War in explain, with more details, why the republicans purges themselves with and without the russians. El Caudillo it's not a perfect man, indeed he did many things wrong but the others were terrible.
Pretty much. I was born and raised in Mallorca, I was bullied by teachers for coming from a large Catholic family, so much so my parents sent me abroad to try and fix me. Anyway I graduated from a top school and now live in the USA, I dream of going back one day, but I don’t want my kids to live in a socialist shithole
My great grand father was a member of the Portuguese Legion (nationalist militia of Estado Novo) he fought as a volunteer in the Spanish Civil War in the Viriatos (portuguese volunteer unit) alongside the Falange. He used to say that Franco and Salazar were the last enemies of Liberalism and Communism and that Iberia was the last stronghold of European Civilization. I Hope to see one day a video of yours about Salazar. Nonetheless congratulations for this magnificent video! Greetings from Portugal ✋🏻 ¡ARRIBA ESPAÑA! VIVA PORTUGAL!
@LittleDolfieSadly, as far as I know. I have no volunteers either. I do have an ancestor who worked on the building of the Titanic though. So that's something. 👍
I’m excited to watch this full video!! As a 21 yr old Spaniard, Franco is taught in schools as an evil, dumb, high pitched short guy that was completely equal to AH. Not only in schools, TV shows, books, newspapers, politicians… all find in common that Franco was a bad person… Maybe it is due to the dact that they want to preserve the failed state that came after him? You only need to see any graphic about Spain pre-1975 and post 1975… Spain used to be free and used to have a strong economy…
In my opinion, he was a great stateman, he came closer to whichever could bring the most prosperous life to his people, eradicated the ideology that could de stabilize his country, agreed to a peace with the losing side of the war, kept his country growing and still got to die in his bed loved by his people.
Lástima que dejo entrar a los izquierdistas como profesores en las universidades y escuelas (de ahí el desastre de la nefasta generación boomer), y puso al rey Juan Carlos el Putero de sucesor. Pero bueno, a toro pasado todos somos muy listos.
Yeah seems Franco really did nothing wrong, I was always bothered, as an American, by films like Casablanca implying the main character Rick was on "the good side" aka the republicans when they were a bunch of psychotic atheists murderers.
Dude, just compare the death tolls of the red and white terrors. The republicans, he's republicans since the communists did not have complete control of the reoublic and was deeply divided even during the dying days of the war, killed about 50k people. However, most of these were conducted by non-state militas in the 8 months after the civil war, when law and order collapsed in the republican territory. These deaths largely dropped off after that time. The largest state organised masscare killed around 3k fascists, who were being held prisoner in Madrid. The nationalists on the other hand, killed 400k as well as imprisoning many more. This killing spree continued for a few years after the war and Himmler even listed Seville is 1940 I think, where about 240 people were being sentenced to death every day and he was shocked by the scale of brutality. The nationalists also systematically raped and looted lands as they advanced. I'm sorry, the nationalists are not morally superior to the republicans and while I don't think Spain would have been hunky dory if the republicans one since they would have quickly have had a fascist dictator to their north as well as the existing internal decisions, Spain certainly didn't have an easy time under Franco either. I'm sorry, Franco is a terrible person.
Franco kept the communists from seizing power Franco played the expectations of both belligerents off each other and kept Spain militarily neutral. Franco rebuilt Spain instead of taking the money and running. The only thing he did wrong was not purging the communists and diet communists (socialists) when he could've. They couldn't get him in life, so they dug him up in death.
Last i checked the soviet union was a super power with the most extensive social welfare programs in the world during franco’s reign. Spain was a complete backwater socially and economically, and still hasn’t recovered from that handicap compared to their neighbors. Even your political ideal can only ever devolve into a sclerotic regimes run by bitter old men that collapse under their weight as soon as they die
@@MattMcMeme Who mentioned Soviet welfare programs? Spain was also not "complete backwater socially and economically", yeah, a civil war just happened, no s**t the economy and infrastructure is going to take 10-20 years to fully recover from, but Spain during Franco's reign, while authoritarian, was not some feudal backwater totalitarian state as you would like to portray it. Quit being disingenuous just because you dislike Francoist Spain. Furthermore, Spain transitioned to Western democracy when Franco died, not collapse. You are a disingenuous r3tvrd and should consider not giving your input in discussions that you have absolute zero knowledge about.
@@warlordsam “it was authoritarian but not totalitarian” damn that’s a very meaningful distinction that makes me confident you know what you’re talking about. The catholic church dominated social life and anyone who disagreed was violently repressed, sounds feudal enough for me. OP said franco beating the communists was a good thing, so i brought up an example where communism improved peoples’ welfare and social life 10x more than franco or any other reactionary dictatorship. They recovered from not just a civil war, but TWO world wars and became the second most prosperous country in the world. I’m just sayin maybe if your goal is the happiness and wellbeing of the people of spain franco was not the guy who should’ve won the war
Unfortunate that they were in such bad shape at the time, if they had been on the level of other European nations they could have turned the tide of the war, properly used.
@@BigJohnson-g3j spain was saved by being in a poor situation. The spoiled nation of Europe fought to either murder their competition or to survive anonher day. Because Spain wasn't a theat to the Anglo-American Establishment, she survived.
I genuinely on a completely regular basis am floored by the quality and dedication of these videos, the absolute adherence to anti revisionism, you are single handedly deconstructing my spanish prejudice toward all anglos
I knew absolutely nothing about Franco until I saw this video. Now I think I know more than everyone within miles. What an important man. Thanks for the information and impetus to study more about him.
I’ve watched this about 5 times now. Always failing to see the end until today. Latin America has effectively become a Marxist swamp, Spain is in shambles and led off a cliff by its soft but politically correct politicians. I firmly believe this was not so 200 years ago. Hispanic America wasn’t a colony or a slave pit, Spain held the world in its hands and glorified Our Father in Heaven who isn’t Jewish, who isn’t Allah, who isn’t “the same as every other god.” I pray that the Lord has mercy on us and bring His wrath upon the enemies of men and Christ. ¡Viva Franco, Viva Cristo Rey!
Nobody Expects the Spanish anti-Communist Inquisition! Thanks for this, big Franco fan. Please do Mussolini next, I have a ton original 1920s Italian black-shirt/Fascist ebooks, pamphlets and manuals if you need some research material.
I remember back in 1879 The Zoomer historian saved me from being sent to the gallows. He represented me against a communist jew accusing me of murder. Thank you Mr. Zoomer
I love Franco. I have relatives who fought for the carlists in the civil war, they aren't with us anymore so I guess ancestors may be a better term. I'm 2 hours and 30 mins in writing this, it's been interesting to learn more about Franco after the civil war and ww2, I didn't know much about him in the cold war. Idk if this is gonna be mentioned, but Franco sent a unit of medical personnel to the Vietnam war. Their unit came under attack from the Viet cong multiple times. Most people don't know about this unit
@@sixmillionisimpossibleAmerican's have no ethnicity. This was the entire point of Lincoln's War of Northern Aggression, Reconstruction and desegregation.
@ProtectTransKids. The 1790 naturalization act was destoryed by McIrish's 1952 immigration act and the Ted Kennedy 1965 immigration act in conjunction with the New deal, the Great Society and the War on Poverty programs. You're appealing to a Jeffersonian America that died in 1865. You live in a unquestionable Hamiltonian system today.
I'm really happy that I've been here since the beginning of your RU-vid career and watched you make it past the 100 thousand mark. You've even got other channels trying to disprove you now because it questions the Hollywood good guy vs bad guy narrative that's been pushed on us since we were kid's. Anyways keep up the great work.👍
@ProtectTransKids. His video recommendation popped up after I finished watching a video about the Polish 7TP tank lol been hooked ever since yeah and he only had a few videos when I first came across him and very few subs I'm happy I stuck around everyone's story deserves to be told without bias.
How the world has changed, back then off to boarding school at 14, and an officer by 17. These days we have 30 year olds still in university trying to figure out what to do with their life.
While the caliber of modern men may certainly be lesser than our forefathers, it would likely be quite different if men were given purpose by their homelands.
He would not be proud of what his spain has become, but he should have acted more effective and trained the new generation. If God grants Spain a second Franco is not sure.
Impossible to do what you suggest. He's not a monarch: a father of a nation. He's a dictator. Europe will die if it doesn't return to Eastern Orthodoxy. The Córdoba was Eastern Orthodox before Mohammadans ruined Spain
Franco said the future didn't worry him because after his death he would be leaving behing a strong middle class that didn't want to lose what they had in a revolution. It was true for 40-50 years, but the system really can't get any more corrupt and that middle class will be gone with the boomer generation. There is no way he could have prepared for this.
@@mannermane Unless you think Roman Catholicism (Francos faith) is a LARP, your comment has no force behind it. Dictatorships aren't sustainable. Monarchy last centuries. The Popes before Vatican 2 stated this. Are you familiar with catholic intergralism
3 hour documentary on Franco? Yes please. 👍 You're on a roll man. Arriba Espana! Rip Franco. God Bless 🙏🏻 P.S. Can you do a documentary on Blessed Karl or Tsar Nicholas II? If you need a source Karl, Charles Coulombe's "Blessed Charles of Austria is a good one. Peace ✌🏻 P.P.S. For anyone interested, the channel Lavader has a great series on Kaiser Wilhelm II check him out. 2:10:49-2:10:52 The papacy wanted to Internalize Jerusalem? I agree completely with this. 👍
Like all Spanish stories. It is a beautiful and sad story. I really like your last few lines regarding "The Spain of Queen Isabell...etc." Very well done.
Im from spain and thank you for this...I haddnt seen Franco as an old man ever, and a few years ago when attending highschool i used to make fun of Carrero Blanco's death, we all did. But i never saw the human side, i never saw Franco, a man who gave it all for his country, crying while holding the hand of the widow of his best collaborator while shaking both from grief and Parkinson. It has made me drop some tears, and made me reconsider how cruel i was without knowing it. I just was never show the human side of it all. I will continue the video but thank you, I have deep existential dread of my own death, and the tought of having to chose someone to replace you must be so scary too. At least he was happt when he stepped down but i just...idk such a strong man, with what seems to be just a normal spanish sincere and amigable personality, not like the calculating Hitler...
God bless you and the work you are doing! I tell everyone I talk with to watch your channel! Thanks for listing the reference books in the description, I've been picking some of them up and they are great reads!
I'm going out on a limb and saying it. If I had to pick the lesser of the evils between communists, and Franco, I'm sorry but I'm choosing Franco. I don't support him but Spain wouldn't be what it is today if it weren't for him. The thing about communism is it has never been truly practiced in government and is easily corrupted. And another thing about communism is it's an extremely difficult political party to eradicate from a government because once people choose communism, there's no going back. Just look at China, North Korea, and Cuba for example
Just discovered yiur channel and great content! Very refreshing to see a westerner, and a zoomer no less, who discusses history in a objective light and does good research. You just gained a new sub, friend.
@@thefirerises9112 my mother was born in the Spanish Sahara while my grandfather was stationed there, he told me stories about how the locals cried and begged them not to leave, they had running water and electricity for the first time, they had jobs and safety. He did say it wasn’t profitable for Spain but they were there as what we would call today humanitarians, back then it was doing Gods work. Anyway after they left, Marroquís ransack the place and turned it into the poorest region in the world
@@LegendofNeldahe was explicitly not only anti fascism but anything close to fascism, Franco arguably not being a fascist. He hated fascism and specifically Italian fascism calling mussolini a “pagan caesarist.” Christcuckery to the extreme.
This is great content. More people should be educated about Franco and the Spanish Civil War, but it doesn't really fit in with the modern narrative. I wrote a fiction set during the pre-war era in Spain (In The Shade Of The Olive Trees) and have long been fascinated by the subject. I hope that you do a video on the life and death of Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera. Again, great video!
Your channel grew so quickly! congrats! I would like to discuss some of the primary sources for US involvement since primary sources is central to my channel.
Those cross dressers in Paris chugging cheap champagne ( actually just sparkling wine) over the death of Franco remind me of the drug addicted cast of SNL in 1975. Francisco Franco is still dead. Week after week .Oh such hilarity....... Here's a real knee slapper, John Belushi? He's still dead. Hilarious huh?
Awesome! I came to your channel to make someone watch another video, but I've been wanting to get into Franco for a while. You just made my life easier. Thanks! Love your work.
Would you mind covering Dollfuß HONESTLY, I know you mentioned him quite often (thanks to your focus on the preconditions of WW2 and A.H), but as an Austrian, I noticed your really negative view on him, how come ? I would like an Video were you go more in depth on this extraordinary character.
Another excellent episode! If you could cite some of your more reliable sources at the end of your future videos, I believe that would be of huge benefit for many of your subscribers. Thank you.
I find it funny that "some people" say: "Oh, it's 2024 and there's still people sore about losing WW2!!"... but you DARE mention the names of Salazar or Franco to them!
Excellent work. I really like your style. Previously, I had always considered Franco as an evil dictator simply because that's how he had been characterized by popular opinion. But the facts you so thoroughly provide here make it clear that he was quite a remarkable man who actually did much good, including defeating murderous communists and anarchists. Spain and the free world actually owe him gratitude.
