The popular FPS developed by Blizzard. So many heroes in a game without a campaign to experience it all, so what happens? Follow Me! ►Twitter: / eruptionfang ►Twitch: / eruptionfang ►Instagram: / eruptionfang
@@pokeyscorpion8224 It's because it conveys emotion without a single god damn word of dialogue and it is THE best cinematic Blizzard has ever put out for Overwatch simply because of that.
Omnic are either individuals trying to live (Zenyatta), mindless machines doing jobs (waiter/waitress Omnics) or war marchines (Bastion, Orisa, Null Sector.) The only omnics currently attacking humanity are those of Null Sector.
If only overwatch had an actual permanent story mode. I’d love a story mode where I can play as bastion or Orisa. It would be so cool to have a story mode from the machine point of view
A mode or campaign where you play as the Humans Vs Omnics during that war or maybe after through the experience of maybe Blackwatch doing operations against aspiring dictators or such would be so cool.
Overwatch has a big difference in storytelling to other games which makes it a great strength. It's not a story told through events, but through characters. Events don't happen to our heroes and villains, our heroes and villains happen to these events. It's more complicated to execute, since more and more factors are added with each new character, but I think Blizzard has done a good job in that regard. And people will say it's only because of cinematics, but I think that was for the best. That way we were presented to multitude on characters on the same level of importance, instead of declaring protagonists and side characters. And now that we are all familiar and consider everyone to be more or less equally important, we can do story in-game
The lore behind Overwatch is just too good to pass it on. I sure hope they don't disappoint us at the release of Overwatch 2, just because everything isn't going the way the developers thought should be, doesn't mean they should quit it now.
@eruptionfang You forgot to mention Aurora, the first sentient Omnic who traveled the world for a decade before giving up her life to grant sentience to the Omnics around the world. This action is what led to the Omniums reactivating, the formation of the Shambali, and everything else. Its all explained in the Symmetra/Zenyatta story "Stone by Stone". It also hints at the Iris and what it is.
Honestly I love road hog While everyone else is either a robot, has some from of technology or genetic enhancement or is a genius He’s out here: haha hook go BRRRRRR
@@notallthatevil something like that and I believe he keeps junkrat around is because he probably feels guilty because Jameson was one of many people affected by the wasteland which he many others caused or he's lonely.
Didn’t expect to see this, but I think everyone interested in any of the backstory of Overwatch will love this and be very interested. Thank you so much for this!
The Last Bastion animation is the reason I fell in love with this game. It was so cool watching it for the first time. I new instantly that this world Blizzard created was expansive and awsome!
1:18:38 genji looks like a 1st grader on a school trip lmao, great video! ive been on an off with overwatch and seeing it all come together in one video was really nice. can't say i like the lore altogether but seeing how it played out in the grand scheme im impressed how interwoven some of these events are together
This was a great video that you've put together! There were even some things I didn't know despite mostly following the lore of this amazing game for several years. It has such amazing lore that still gets me emotional after so long, and I'm really hoping Overwatch 2 lives up to the hype and expectations of building upon this world that they have created. I've been a longtime fan of all your Borderlands videos, so definitely looking forward to the rest of your overwatch ones! Keep up the good work!
Thank you, I needed this to prep for Overwatch 2 and I haven’t found a complete timeline (typically they’re just bits and pieces). Can’t wait for the story campaign!
I think the difference in popularity in both games story and characters is that Overwatch is your super hero/military movie about society and government, while Team Fortress 2 is about a group of people who are payed to kill themselves and accidentally get involved into a bigger problem. That and the fact that TF2 characters being morally grey makes them have a personality not based in heroism or good morals
Ive been invested in this story since launch, ive lost touch to it because of the long wait for OW2. I cant wait until it comes out so I can learn more
right? like i've played since launch and i pretty much knew everything he was saying individually, but hearing him put it together in a coherent timeline really put things into perspective
This is really good. Do you think you could do a timeline of the events of Apex Legends next? That storyline is kinda confusing since I'm not familiar with the universe
It's mostly Titanfall but there are also huge gaps as there are 30 in-universe years between TF2 and Apex. This will hopefully be fixed whenever 3 rolls around.
I’ve played overwatch since way back and kind of lost touch with it. But the lore and backstories have always made me come back and revisit it. I’ve been trying to piece together the timeline myself but it was a lot! But after watching this timeline and just the way you explain everything it really makes a lot of sense to me now! I’m so excited for when overwatch 2 comes out! Thank you so much for this!
this video helps cover everything i missed, though i would really appreciate links to all the lore that was compiled here so i could explore the story material some more, as it's hard to find everything scattered online.
- Humans build robots. - Humans let robots do dirty work. - Robots don't like it. - Robots revolt, destroying a lot of the infrastructure. - Revolt turns to war. Many people die. - Humans are like: "fuck it. Peace time" and scribble a piece of paper together with the robots, pinky swearing that they won't let the robots do dirty work anymore. - world prospers. And that's where we are now. Kinda.
Imagin if over watch 2 was like call of duty but in overwatch universe like the wars in Germany as a crusader fight in a titan like in Russia etc like we play all the characters back story’s
As much as I hate the game and most of it's community, the story has a lot of potential. In fact, I believe it has the most potential out of any media I've seen in a long time.
So in this universe Nepal wasn't discovered in till these robot peace dude walk on some mountain and were like let's show people that we normal and good
I love this explanation for the whole overwatch timeline! Thank you so much for putting in so much effort for this, because of this, I feel way more invested and my love for the whole thought process in this creation of the game grew so much more!
dude overwatch has such a cool story its a huge shame that blizzard doesnt give it as much love as it deserves. i should be hyped for overwatch 2 but deep down i know blizzard is gonna let us down.
I find it fucking hilarious that when they Omnic Crisis ended, the Australian government was basically like "Yo Omnics, we'll let you settle in the factory that started this whole nightmare, and we can have peace. Locals: "Oi fuck dat shite mate. LIBERATION!!!!!!!" Australian Liberation Front forms and attacks the Omnium, damage the fusion core and..... BOOM!!!!!! Fallout style wasteland in Australia, now we got crazy Junkertown. Who says Aussies aren't crazy?
The gameplay makes Overwatch fun. The stories make it unforgettable. Almost all of the cinematics made me tear up at some point. In less than 10 minutes, we get not just backstory, but worldbuilding, emotional stakes, glimpses of devastation, and the unique brand of inspiration only Overwatch delivers. Yes, the game gets trashed a lot, but the world beneath it is something else entirely. Heroes, each of which could be in a standalone story, are developed in a web of conflict, intrigue, and thorough worldbuilding that has not stopped growing. I find myself rewatching the cinematics and lore videos annually, because... I don't know. There is a pull to it. Not many franchises have that. I write this as I am studying for a midterm tomorrow. I am horribly underprepared and will be up all night, buried in polymer chemistry. Needless to say, the stress is real. And that is when I am most absorbed into Overwatch. Beneath game mechanics, it is a story of reclaiming lost hope. It is a story of accepting failure and the growth that comes after. It is a story that, when you have a bad day, will make you feel like tomorrow can be better. Maybe this is just me and I am too sentimental. But, I really hope to explore the Overwatch world one day. In any form. Movie. Game. Book. Any form. These are stories that demand telling.
never thought you would do a history of overwatch but nun the less when I saw you did one I got exited cuz i just got back into it. keep up the good work.
so.. all of that PvP Stuff is just meaningless Fluff?? ugh.. How telling and it's even more puzzling for me now because outside of the Archives Event none of Overwatch(1)'s content has any narrative reason to exist aside of represanting a Team-based-Hero Shooter. I started to Overwatch with the Legendary Edition, the Recall Cinematic is the very first thing I've seen when I played Overwatch (The First real thing I've come to noticed about Overwatch was Tracer's ass controversy.. which I admit is a bad way of first impression) but seriously all this Story just shows how much of a Wasted Potential Overwatch has/is especially with Archives PvE being anually Locked xX with that said, this is a Great Video Explaining the entire Story so far! Good Job!
So many missed opportunities for not taking this to the next level earlier. A animated movie or even a small web series would have cemented it's legacy. Instead, we keep waiting for anything....ANYTHING...OW related, and it's clear that interest is waning the globe over.
@@pooferss6056 the amount of people that actually knew he was named after somebody from blizzard is extremely tiny, everybody will always know and refer to him as McCree
17:14 idk if Bastion was trying to repair it, I feel like he was trying to just see how he died or something. Maybe he was just curious as to how the other bastion got there.
I just wish all this really cool worldbuilding and syory was in the game, because without knowing the story, all the characters and locations have zero meaning, and i think that hiding the story outside of the game is an insult to the writers.
Depends if you play it casually or competitively I suppose. I’m no pro by any means, but I fancy scrimming a couple of times a week (LFS 4.2k - 4.3k) and knowing the backstory really doesn’t do shit then lol. I never ever think about tbh, tho Ig the Alive short is cool :)
