man, Sega CD has SO many awesome memories for me. It was my first collection that I completed 90% in the wild all up and down the East Coast over 4 years. So much fun! Thanks for the video John...that collection looks so amazing all laid out like that
love this system so much easily my favorite retro system, that perfect meeting of pixel games meets lots of space, a lot of the time it ended up being cd quality audio or voice acting, or ur fmv games, the space adventure and snatcher of course and rise of the dragon, just so many classics, thank you for sharing your collection
Dude, I got a sega CD lateeeeee. I mean 32x was out but we couldn't afford it. My mom was college and my dad was a truck driver. I was 8 or 9. I really didn't know much other than magazine ads that i got from older magazines i'd read at the library while my mom studied or my dad went to look up health and weight lifting stuff. It took forever to talk my parents into it. Even the people at the used game store told my parents not to buy it. But after months of hounding I got it. The box art with real people and what looked like the deepest gaming I could possibly consume wouldn't leave my mind. I Just wouldn't shut up. They gave in. I got it with Sewer Shark, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Corpse Killer and The Amazing Spider man vs King Pin. I have to say the guys at the game store did try to look out for me. I was almost in tears when i played through these games. Until I got to Spider man. I loved that game so much. The "open world", the combat, and the cut scenes, my gosh! I knew I made a mistake but I was so happy that I had this game with all that and a sweet sound track. It made me feel better. I never bought anything else for it. I sure wish I would have gotten Lunar for it now. But I am so thankful I found so much happiness in that game where I knew I made a mistake but I had this game that was superior to the genesis version which I didn't know existed until later. But my version was better so I didn't care! It did end up making me so happy. I also started to get CD's for it. So cool for me at the time just having tapes. It did end up leaving me with warm memories. Also shout out to my parents for being good sports.
I love Sega CD, and collect for it every chance I get. I hope to someday have a complete collection. For now, some of those really expensive games will have to be bootlegged =p So many underrated gems, and a great time capsule for FMV. Can't forget when we thought that was the future of video games!
I had Lunar 1&2 on Sega CD, and they are still to this day among my favorite JRPGs of all time. They were groundbreaking when they were released with their fully animated cut scenes, fully voiced characters (the voice actors were freaking amazing too), and both games had some of the best soundtracks ever. Lunar 1 was also the first game I'd ever owned on a console that had fully orchestrated music rather than the typical MIDI style game music. I later bought both of the PS1 Lunar box sets, and the first one came with a Ghaleon hand puppet. I still have the Ghaleon puppet, but when someone offered me $1000 for both box sets, I parted with them.
3:35 "The Sega CD was released to compete with the Super Nintendo" Completely inaccurate statement. The Sega CD released in the U.S. late 92' while the Genesis has market share lead over nintendo. The Genesis would continue to have market share lead until late 94' early 95'. The Sega CD was a Sega of Japan creation, to compete against the PC Engine.
I've been a huge Wheel of Fortune fan my whole life, and the SEGA CD was home to one of my favorite adaptions of the show. Despite its slow pace and the absence of Pat Sajak (of which I know the cause), this April 1994 game does an overall fabulous job of emulating what it was like to be on a 1993 episode.
Amazing John, congrats. I am just starting out here in the UK with my collection, but dont aim to catch em all. Right now im struggling to get a Japanese region unlocked sega megadrive 2 + CD 2 to play on my PAL CRT TV. Hoping an NTSC - PAL converter will solve the issue which is on the way!
Good stuff. Many of those look familiar, and if you eBay'd at all in 07'-08 some of those may have been mine! Sonic CD is a favorite, Flashback CD a close second, don't get tired of that soundtrack.
hemiball, shining force cd, and lunar. where my go too they made me buy the 32x for the other games.. but after that was quickly over I wished I kept buying up the huge discounted games.. I miss them and seeing how much it cost now.. yeah. its hacks and roms.. Great trip ty
Congratulations my man! You have an awesome collection going! It makes me so excited to see a fellow collector complete their set! I remember when I completed my North American 32X collection. It's an awesome feeling
I’m so jealous of this collection. Thank you so much for sharing this. My collection is wayyyyy smaller at around 50 titles, but I hope one day to have a complete set
Lunar the Silver Star Story has been my all time favorite RPG game. I bought the game and would rent the console at BlockBuster back in the day. It got misplaced moving around, such an honor to see you having yours signed, outstanding and amazing collection may it live long and well with you.
Awesome. Grats on the full collection. I had a lot of fun with my Sega CD back in the day even with all the wall warts. Lol Major flashbacks seeing a lot of those titles. Love the nostalgia of your channel dude! 🤘
Same here! Gave it to a cousin of mine as he wanted to rip it and get it to play on his PC... I believe I may have the box & papers that came with it. Great version. Almost justified the purchase😅
That is a wonderful set. I have most of what one would want for Sega CD from buying back in the '90s, but there are a few I wish I hadn't passed on back when the most expensive games were only around $40-60. That in-between era from 16-bit carts up until the early Playstation days has become a soft spot for me. It was a different time where people were experimenting more with game design, and while a lot of it is goofy, there's also a lot of clear enthusiasm in those games, and if, like me, you were a teenager during that time, you remember all of the hype and excitement surrounding all of these systems. Beautiful stuff
I had an X-Eye in middle school my first Sega CD console. Had Eternal Champions CD, Sewer Shark, Dracula Unleashed, Lunar and Corpse Killer. Late nights playing all of them!
Rented a lot of others from Blockbuster. Shining Force CD, Mansion of Hidden Souls, Sherlock Holmes, Final Fight CD, Sonic CD.. Fond memories of playing those as well.
I saw this notification and was like hell yeah. Sega cd is being represented by the immortal one whoooo. Thanks so much john for this awesome video!!! As you can tell im a die hard sega cd fan.
My cousin let me borrow his Sega-CD console for a few months - playing Lethal Enforcers with your best friend both having guns to shoot with was the best thing ever!
For a split second I thought it said "The Complete Sega Saturn Collection". I was like " Man, I just bought a Saturn with 2 games, and this guy has the whole collection!".
That's an amazing collection John. I've been waiting with I'm sure a ton of other people to see it. I have a good chunk of them but they are hard to find now in not only decent shape but price for the ones I want. The ones I will hopefully get at some point are keio flying squadron, snatcher, fatal fury, earthworm wonderdog and that Frankenstein Dracula 2 pack. Keep up with the great content.
Thank you for sharing, this is my favorite system by far, I've got all that I want except Keio, I've been lucky enough to have owned Snatcher 3 different times. Man I love this system so much!
No LaserActive‽ What about the seven (7!) Lunar disc variants? Sega CD is my favorite console of all time. I’m still rocking my Model 1 (original owner, since ‘93) and completed a full US set last year. It’s neat to see a Double Switch remaster after all of these years. Probably the best console port of Final Fight (minus any of the direct arcade emulation releases). It’s nice to see the SegaCD finally getting the attention it deserved.
There is a red box wonderdog on ebay right now. I thought wonder dog was lack luster as a kid but im really enjoying playing it now. I would give it a b.
Amazing collection, John! I went to a retro game market a few weeks back and saw a copy of Popful Mail that they were selling which was so mind-blowing because it was never released in Australia (It was the US copy) and everything inside it was all in there in great condition and I wanted it but they were selling it for such a high price that I couldn't. It's still one the highlights for me on that day.
Never had a sega CD but I played some games at a friend's place. I think it was a little ahead of its time and the CD loading couldn't compete with the cartridge consoles at the time. Great collection! I love to see your Sega Collections!
I’m very nostalgic for the Sega CD. So many games that I rented blindly back in the day that ended up being unforgettable. I didn’t have a PC at the time, so games like Monkey Island and even Willie Beamish really blew me away. Playing Dragon’s Lair, Time Gal, Road Avenger, etc...It was a big deal to be able to play games like that at home at the time. I remember renting Rise of the Dragon and thinking the cyberpunk setting was the coolest thing ever. Then Snatcher came out and totally blew it out of the water. I’ll never forget the creepy feeling of watching the intro playing for the first time with the music as the narrator explained the mystery of the snatchers origin, “is it a new form of weapon, or perhaps...an invasion from another world?” It felt like you could do anything in that game. Playing Lunar and that being my first experience with animated cut scenes in an RPG. The adventure felt very real. Even the FMV games that people mock like Sewer Shark I really enjoyed. I recently acquired a legit copy of Shining Force CD for $14.99 in the wild.
I like it. But I noticed you're missing Sega's 4 in 1. Same as the 5 in 1 without Super Monaco GP. I apologize if you said something about during that time, my audio out is down.
Some Sega CD Soundtracks like Batman Returns and Final Fight I still listen to this day at work. Spider-Man and Thunderhawk are good also give it time (Thunderstrike), Sonic CD.
The Part where you Mentioned Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch: Mark Wahlberg is my Mom's Celebrity Crush she had all of his Films on DVD way back in the Day but Sadly all of those DVDS Disappeared out of Nowhere Mark Wahlberg is the Guy of her Dreams Marky Mark that is since she's still Falling for the Actor Himself to this Day PS my Mom took my Older Cousin (Her Nephew) to see Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch in Concert back in the Early 90's (Back when they were still Active) (Way before Wahlberg became an Actor) right when the Concert was over my Mom was Standing there in the Audience and my Cousin snuck backstage and met Marky Mark Himself when my Mom wasn't looking and I thought that was one of the Interesting Stories I ever Heard and my Cousin was 11-12 somewhere Around 1991-1992 this was way before I was Born but still Interesting
Working on my Sega CD collection now and am currently at 70 in total. Just purchased Popful Mail and Shining Force CD from a friend yesterday. I am also playing through the whole NA Sega CD library. Love the console and think people don't appreciate the importance of it to the development of CD based games.
John, you misspoke! Ruby was in Lunar Eternal Blue (Not the Silver Star) I love that series! They need to release Eternal Blue on more platforms like the did with Silver Star!
Awesome video. Just got a model 2 sega cd and just 5 or so loose games but I’m happy with that I got Sonic cd, Batman returns, nhl 94, Mickey mania and a burn disc of android assault. Want a few more games but crazy expensive. You know my opinion on this but does anyone realize that if sega cd never came out then we probably wouldn’t have the Sony PlayStation? Think of it. If sega cd never came out Nintendo would of never gone to Sony and ask to make a cd add on to compete with sega cd. Thus Sony would of never got burned by Nintendo for making the Phillips Cdi and went on to make the PlayStation.
It would be dope if you had some type of website that had all your collections, titles, wants, and current plays. Would help us follow your video game journey even more!!! Start the museum online!!!
