John Barea no I hate DC they killed Alfred Jessica Cruz shot nightwing got rid of red hood and the outlaws and made Tim no longer red Robin and didn't let Bruce and Selena get married that's why I love Marvel better u should read moon Knight by Brian Wood the 2014 story it's awesome.
I think Dick Grayson is the best DC hero. He’s one of the only heroes to have fully evolved from kid to adult, with multiple titles along the way. He was Batman even, a fantastic Batman, but it wasn’t his destiny. Now he’s Nightwing, Batman’s equal (in my opinion.) He’s Bruce without the emotional flaws.
DJTonySnark He’s been cucked and nerfed numerous times in modern iterations. Luckily, it seems like he’ll return to his former glory in Titans. Every comic writer nowadays seems to forget that he’s nearly Batman’s equal in combat and deduction. (although Tim is better at detective work than him) Dick took on freaking Deathstroke and won but nowadays, especially in the animated movies, he can’t handle simple goons half the time. He’s also one of my favorite heroes too so it’s sad it’s see this crap nowadays especially after the awesome time he was Batman.
Shadow of Dread Completely agree he should be up there with the most badass heroes and he’s been nerfed a lot lately because they only care about batman and anything else is just an inferior sidekick to them
Best animated depiction till now is in young justice. DCAU Nightwing sucks. He always breaks his shoulder. He deserves much respect but always becomes the scapegoat to Batman's story lines. Recent Ric Grayson storyline is the best example of DC undervaluing the best superhero so far.
I’m not a fan of too much tension between them. My favorite portrayal of their dynamic didn’t even have them sharing the screen: it was The Apprentice arc of Teen Titans 2003 when Slade told Robin he wants him to accept him as his father but Dick says “I already have a father” and the camera pans up to show the bats flying. Coolest moment ever.
🤧 ah I love moments like that, I really wish they would just stick to Bruce and Dick having a good bond after all they have been through, after all Bruce adopted him!
Dick Grayson is Bruce's favorite person in the universe. So, while I love the animated series, I reject Batman Beyond as canon. Because even if they argue and don't talk for like a year, Bruce would never do anything that would hurt Dick Grayson in that way. Bruce might be emotionally stunted and they may argue but he shows love through actions... this is the opposite of that. It a repeated theme that Dick Grayson is the light to Bruce's darkness and the anchor that keeps Batman from going over the edge. As is shown in this quote of Dick saying, "He saved me and it saved him. It kept him from living in the shadows. From walking the line. From crossing it." And also when Bruce tells Dick "The truth is I didn't save you from some dark fate those years ago. You saved *me* from one. And you're still are saving me, every day." This dynamic is the core of Bruce and Dick's relationship in any run. While Batman works with various other Robins, it is Dick Grayson who keeps Batman from crossing the line, not just any Robin. For example, had the Joker killed Dick instead of Jason, Batman probably would have killed the Joker. Dick's death would be one of the few things to push Bruce off the edge and into a killing spree (as shown in Infinite Crisis). There's so much love and trust between Dick and Bruce. Some of the best quotes are Bruce saying Dick is "a better man than I ever could be." and "The only time I ever feel pride is when I look at Nightwing. Sometimes I think he's the only thing I ever did right." And when Bruce tells Dick, "Dick. I didn't fall. I jumped. I jumped because I knew you'd catch me." I feel like this video only covers the drama, not the love between them. Dick is Bruce's greatest accomplishment, and his designated successor. Nightwing becomes the leader of the justice league after Batman as Bruce had planned. And Dick takes up Batman's mantle when Bruce is "dead" and even raises and trains his son Damian. Dick Grayson is the favorite. End of story. 😌
Yes, that is very uncharacteristic of batman. The writers made a huge mistake doing it. Batman would never do it. The writers just wrote the story that way which is wrong and uncharacteristic of batman
@@maite6800 He likes Batman with Wonder Woman too for some reason. Even though realistically they wouldn't like each other since Wonder Woman is okay with kills.
@@gonthebait6562 he only dates her in the arkham games. Other than that they don't have any relation because by the time Tim drake comes in as robin, barbara is already paralyzed and older
Come on: Barbara is hot as hell (especially in that Bat-Girl suit). Who wouldn't have had a sexual fantasy on her? And, being honest, she has always secretly been in love with Batman (and Bruce!). This story makes a lot of sense!
I just don't consider those "Timm-verse" comics canon. There was never any romance between Bruce and Barbara in Batman the Animated Series, and Bruce clearly loved Dick as a son. No way he would steal his girl or abandon him for years, that's not the Batman I grew up with in the cartoon. It's an incredibly out-of-character and selfish thing to do for a character that's supposed to be selfless.
Maaz R. Batman Beyond confirmed that Bruce and Barbara we’re together tho A DCAU animated film, I think Batman Mystery of the Batwoman or something, also showed Babs and Bruce were together
Not only that, but sleeping with his best friend’s daughter. It’s already enough that he recruited her as Batgirl fighting crime behind Jim’s back, but then dating her, sleeping with her, AND getting her pregnant?! That’s so fucked up.
the same guy who sleeps with a teenage boy (who he dresses up in a bright speedo or short shorts at night) in the same bed in at least one panel of a comic book,
I’m actually kinda cool with it tbh. But only because I didn’t see it coming and it was very risky form the start and I know they shouldn’t be together but that’s the fun of it for me
Them being together is so out of character. Bruce is like a father figure for both Dick and Barbara. Both Batman Beyond and Killing Joke missed the point.
Thats the one part of the DCEU thats a flaw. Thats it. Bruce Timm couldnt help himself smh. I pray it never bleeds into the main continuity of comics. So much easier to ignore it in the DCEU and its comics.
All of the post-Crisis versions of this just feel so wrong. They impose Bruce’s superiority on Grayson, and strip Grayson of agency. In pre-Crisis, Grayson leaves of his own will and turns the Robin identity and mantle over to Jason Todd, giving him his blessings and approval. This is the best version, much more heart-felt and in-character for Grayson. But hey, who wants happiness and hope in their comics?
"Impose Bruce's superiority on Grayson"? I think the Bruce/Barbara thing is gross ... but idk how that has anything to do with anyone's value. If anything, it demeans Bruce. (And I'd point out that Bruce seemed to hint he was open to getting back together with Barbara when she told him she was pregnant, asking her if it changed anything between them ... and she rejected him again.)
@@DanielFolsom I think he meant that in the comics(post-crisis)Bruce takes the Robin mantle away from Dick so Dick goes to talk with Clark and ends up having the nightwing idea but in the pre-crisis Dick had decided to let Robin go in his own terms in the Judas contract comic
My opinion on the DCAU has been slightly soured ever since Bruce Timm created that horribly gross relationship between Barbara, Bruce and Dick. I'm so glad Dick and Barbara have been done well in Young Justice.
@@senshaw6640 she was engaged with dick grayson and she is a lot younger than batman and both of them betrayed dick and they try to hide it from him wtf
The only thing bad about it was that it was basically his son/brothers old girlfriend. Major bro code violation, otherwise it made since. Ever since Babara was introduced in BTAS she fantasized about Batman, even flirted with him on several occasions. Then she also wasn't fully into Dick when they dated in college. When Bruce was lonely and in a moment of weakness it'd make since they'd get together cause the only thing that held them back was Dick.
Superman is the 1 everyone never questions or disrespect, except batman who is the 1person when superman gets out of control he( superman) the rest of the j.l count on to stop him. The one person who can tell batman where to go n how to get there, tell him " your wrong ". Is nightwing!
The best Bruce Wayne & Dick Grayson moment, in my opinion, was in the Injustice comics, when Nightwing died and became Deadman, possessed young Billy Batson, and was then hugged by Batman. A true father-son moment that moved me to tears.
Bruce and Dick’s relationship reminds me of any fathers relationship with their older son, he messed up with him the most because he was still learning but in the end it made him the best Robin
Kaildou Dio[p This Comes Back to what Superman Said Back in The Injustice Story line about how ''It's Funny, How Clark who is an Alien & is More Connected With Humanity, Yet Bruce who is a Human is Less Connected to Humanity''.
After watching this I realize how cold Bruce can be. I always wondered why Dick was so angry with Bruce and now I see all kinds of different scenarios why
Dick Grayson is my all time favorite DC character, I got the classic nightwing suit and everything. Its just sad to see that for him being such a great character, so strong and resilient. DC completely abuses him.
5:54 I liked how Rocksteady games even incorporated Bruce and Dick's complicated relationship in the Arkham Knight. The first encounter between the two spoke volumes after Bruce needed intel on Penguin's operations after Barbara was kidnapped by the Arkham Knight. Alfred informed him that Dick has been investigating Penguin's movements for awhile now, and Bruce told him to have Dick send everything over (to avoid actual contact with him), but Alfred informed him that Dick insisted on meeting up with him instead. And when they do meet up, Dick greets him with light-hearted banter about him still lurking onto rooftops. Bruce, however, is cold towards him, and he only wants the Intel on North Refrigeration (Penguin's base of operations). The look on Dick's face revealed everything I needed to know about their relationship. He hesitated to speak, he was caught off-guard, and he was slightly irritated by Bruce's coldness. Nevertheless, he gave him what he wanted. Rocksteady did an absolute great job with replicating the tense dynamic between those two. They really did their homework.
I've been writing/developing a treatment of a Nightwing movie that focuses on a falling out between Bruce and Dick. Different circumstances but it's an important dynamic of these 2's relationship.
What makes their falling out so sad is that of all his sons, Dick was the one who made Bruce into the person he is. He was his first kid, they had such a history. Bruce truly didn't handle Dick growing up very well.
Yes and no, Bruce was very strict with Dick but he truly loved him. This video only covers the drama of some of the different comic adaptations. If you decide, and I hope you do, to check other comic adaptations you’ll see that Dick is Bruce’s proudest accomplishments. He truly trusts, and loves Dick and in a few, rare but few, moments in some comics Bruce calls Dick his son. Even some games like recent Gotham Knights gives us some records to listen back from Bruce dedicated to his sons and im sure you’ll enjoy listening what he says about Dick.
The complicated history between Variant Comics and Darkseid cause they barely have any content of him Imma keep commenting about Darkseid until my voice is heard so get used to me
I loved this episode! Dick is my favorite Robin and I’ve always loved his complicated relationship with Bruce. Be nice if we got a mature Dick Grayson in the DCEU down the road
Bruce is the hardest with Dick but he’s also the only he ever outright stated that raising him was his greatest accomplishment, literally in Final Crisis his final determining factor in saving the universe was because of how much he viewed Dick Grayson to the greatest person he’s ever met.
@@adrianivashkov4242 I get that, but on the other hand Dick being great and Batman seeing that doesn't negate that Bruce is an ass to him. Dick is great but not so much because of Bruce.
Sounds like Bruce took advice from the Jacksons' parenting book. Being so strict with your kids until they turn out to be the nicest people ever. MJ is so sweet like that, most people don't know how strict his dad used to be with him. Its a little realistic with the way Bruce treats Dick, and Dick turned out to be the sweetest guy you'll ever know
This is my second favorite dynamic duo relationship. The first being Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne, they work well together too. But Bruce can be such a jerk to Dick and all Dick wants is to be his own man, be happy, and sometimes even make Bruce happy too. When I was a toddler, I always saw Barbara and Bruce as a couple and Dick and Starfire as a couple on TV, so I got confused as I grew up as to why people ship Barbara and Dick. I thought Barbara had a thing for Bruce or just preferred to be single, either way I feel like she just can't make Dick happy like Starfire can. Starfire only has eyes for Dick and brings nothing but love and positivity to his life meanwhile Barbara just brings heartbreak and drama. But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion.
When I saw that episode the first time, I thought Bruce and Barbara we're already in a relationship. All I knew when I was a kid was that Dick looked at Bruce, looked at Barbara, looked back at Bruce, put two and two together, and punched him in the face and said "I quit." I wasn't paying attention.
It's not as big of a deal as all these people are making it out to be. You'd think Bruce fucking murdered babies and kicked puppies to death to read these fucking comments...
Arris, your channel is so AWESOME!!! I’m always learning NEW things!! I don’t know Dick had appointed Donna to lead the Titans will he was away! I’ve been watching the Titans series on DC streaming and I’m hooked! Please, please do a “History of DONNA TROY!” =)
5:49 this is the only time I have know and heard someone express that they love this two things (Batman and justice league in those versions) like I do. When I was still in school, middle and highschool, this was the 2 things that I loved the most. It's so nice and refreshing to hear you say it and that someone else in the world shares this with me, because these are just too good and not many people ever said it
@@senshaw6640 Lmao, you’re all over these comments. You have a pre schooler understanding of what makes Batman a cool character. His combat prowess is a means to an end, not his defining feature. If you think Damien is better just because he’s edgy then you don’t like Batman and would probably prefer a full on league of assassins Damian. Which would be boring and lame. A lot of Batman’s goal with Damien was removing that useless brutality and teaching him how to grow as a person and fight crime properly.
The thing that bothered me so much about Bruce and Barbara was that it was such a disrespectful, dishonorable move for Bruce to make. It’s out of character for a man who is all about loyalty, respect and family. He fucked over his own son super hard. Then again, maybe that was the whole point.
I’m new to DC, never really continued after watching as a kid. Now I’m learning about so much as an adult and absolutely loving it. That love triangle story is insane, I never knew about it so that was shocking. excited to keep diving in further
You can read Robin's last mission with Batman in the single issue "Did Robin Die Tonight?" (Batman #408) and the fallout between them in "White Gold and Truth" (Batman #416).
Bruce and Barbara just would flat out not have happened if certain writers weren't weirdly obsessed with making it happen for some effed up reason. I really don't think Bruce would even be attracted to her in the first place and even if he was, the man has a will of iron and would never have succumbed to that. I mean come on. Frankly it annoys me that everyone seems to want to make Batman out as a bad father when Dick turned out great and Bruce really did do the best he could with Dick. Dick is literally the person who understands Bruce the most due to their shared experiences and Bruce did everything he could to make sure Dick didn't turn out as bitter toward the world as he was. It really bothers me when it seems all writers want to do is keep them at odds as if they hate each other when really those two, while definitely having their share of disagreements, would have an incredibly strong bond.
Animated Batman seems a lot nicer than the other Batmans. He isn’t a douche bag! He just didn’t want to hurt Robin. And Robin was the one that punched him. Batman never said “you’re fired” or some crap like that. Robin just left.
Great video. Good to see that some channels keep the consistent quality and tone. Too many channels have changed and I’ve lost interest. Your channel helped me through some dark times. Good to know somethings never change. I mean that with the upmost respect. Too many good things change. Too many broken things are fixed. Too many quality entities sell out.
I completely and absolutely LOVE their partnership and bond through battle and more but I don't appreciate how the animated versions of Dick Grayson ( other than the amazing BatmanTAS ) always have him getting punked out an pumbled... This dude has gone through and overcome so much that being the 1st Robin isn't even his greatest feat anymore. He has done so much and contributed to the stories and characters. Their bond as Batman & Robin or Batman & Nightwing will always be perfect.
@@senshaw6640 Batman has claimed him as his equal in combat multiple times. He’s also more personable and is a much better leader who has learned so much more than Batman alone could teach him. He’s literally just Batman 2: Batman but funnier. Anyone who thinks otherwise isn’t a fan of Batman.
The first falling out story one is my absolute favorite. The second one just seems like they needed or wanted to revamp the storyline and the Babs being pregnant by the father of her boyfriend can literally be seen in any soap opera.
I like these. Do more. Like, Batman and Superman's Relationship or other Heros! I'd watch the hell outta that One of my favorite highlights of their relationship was actually from the Batman:Hush comic. Dick and Bruce are driving to go handle a crime and Dick just brings up him dating Catwoman, giving him relationship advice. He ends up ending it by saying "At least shave" xD It made me laugh, but Bruce remarks how Dick has always talked to him with no fear. It was a nice story beat when Batman is known for being intimidating
The relationship between Batman/ Bruce Wayne and Nightwing/ Dick Greyson reminds me so much of my own relationship with my mother. It's not as messed up up, but still she almost practically resembles Bruce in a lot of ways.
I thought Grayson left Batman cuz he didnt want to be his succesor, the new Batman. He saw how consumed Bruce was by the darkness of his past and Dick wasnt like that. He didnt want to be consumed by the same darkness, since he already avenged his murdered parents in an early age. He's more optimistic and positive. Thats why he dropped the mantle of Robin and decided to be his own man, aka Nightwing.
Regarding the bad blood involving Batgirl you could also consider that in some early comics that while Dick had a crush on Batgirl (the Barbara Gordon version not the original) Batgirl had a crush on Batman. In fact during the 70s and 80s most of her relationships involved men of Bruces age as opposed to men her own age. So knowing this i find it funny when people take offense to Barbara sleeping with Batman in the Batman Beyond storyline as well as in the Killing Joke animated film.
Wait how was Joker the one who captured Alfred and shot Nightwing in the Timverse? At that point Joker should be dead. Is this explained? I do know in an episode of Beyond we see Joker's body in like a cave rather than where Return of the Joker shows us. How do they explain Joker surviving that?
Great video!! Though, WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK!? Ok, I knew of Barbara's miscarriage from a previous Variant video, but I had no idea it was within the DCAU timeline, albeit in the comics. Now every time I think about that Curare episode in Batman Beyond or anything where Barbara mentioned her past with Bruce to Terry, I think of this now. I'm convinced now that the DCAU portrayed the worst fallout between Bruce and Dick.
Yo man! You guys know know your comics and i love it.. And I am also a 90's kid but that doesn't change this. You and your team are very correct and I love it. Keep it up.
